Ron g in the pro shop was awesome I've played a lot of courses, and let's be honest -- tee time logistics with a group can turn into chaos real quick. We had a situation where our tee times needed to be rearranged, and I fully expected at least one person in our party to be annoyed about it. Somehow, Ron G at Shorecliffs pulled it off like it was nothing. He reshuffled everything and managed to keep every single person in our group happy -- which honestly might be harder than playing the course itself. What impressed me most was how smoothly he handled it. No stress, no confusion, no attitude. Just calm problem-solving and clear communication. It felt like he genuinely wanted everyone to have a great day, not just "fix the schedule." Shorecliffs is a beautiful place to play, but having someone like Ron behind the scenes makes the experience that much better. Just wanted to leave a review for both course and 501 restaurant. Like many, I have played here for over 45 years... good, bad, better and now the best. Course is in good shape and getting better with much effort in beautification. I think they're doing a very good job. Course will always be tough, it's narrow and can be difficult for beginners and those not familiar with the course. However, the pricing and tee times availability makes it a go to course for me and my regulars. I appreciate the bar and a drink after the round, and ShoreCliffs does as good there as any. The 501 restaurant is good, and I taken advantage of the every other Thursday Prime Rib dinner... I recommend giving ShoreCliffs a try, it's a gem in Orange County for the price and accessibility. read more

So they are getting off to a great start for 2025. More activity in the restaurant sports tvs to enjoy games live music on Sunday from 2 to 5 . No happy hour but prices are good. Outdoor seating with fire pit and great views of the golf course. And tables outside perimeter for small group setting. Nice selection for brunch from omelettes to egg Benedict and pancakes and bloody Mary's. I can feel the vibe is getting better with each visit .., give it a go ... make sure to check hours as they close early. read more

I was hesitant to play here for the longest time based on the reviews. Glad I decided to come and play. It's a gem. The staff are some of the friendliest around. The course is improving too. It's clear they are putting money and work into improving the conditions. It's a challenging course for sure, but it's become my home course. I used to play here almost weekly and have stopped going as much since the remodel. It used to be very appealing because of how cheap it was to play. Now it's way too expensive for what it is. New management has a serious attitude issues as does the members working in the pro shop. I called in today to see if any tee times had opened up, I was told by Brayden to come in and grab a beer and he'd get me on if pace of play was slow. He said "worst case scenario I'll get you on by 3pm". As we approached 3pm I asked him if I was still getting on and his whole attitude changed. He then said the earliest would be 4:10 which was available all along (and if I wanted to play at 4:10 I would've booked it and showed up on time, not early and bought beers and food). He then claimed he never told me that he'd get me on, and was sorry that "I misheard him". He went on to be very hostile and borderline yelling at me because he was "too busy and just worked there". He got his manager, who was even more arrogant and unhelpful. Constantly telling me that no one would say that, and that I was wrong. It's not shocking at all to see how horrible all the reviews are and that management and the pro shop are the root of the issues. read more

I've played several rounds here over the years and I do like the greens, but there are some real problems here lately. The areas under repair aren't marked off, the maintenance crew just drives their carts through mud puddles damaging the turf (we were there after rain, tire damage everywhere!) You can't get food at the turn in a timely manner, the bar is closed early EVERY night so forget a beer after the round, they closed the #10 tee to make it what looks like a wedding venue that hardly gets used but probably one of the worst things is the marshall, Skip. This guy is a nightmare of inappropriate public interactions. Why would you have a guy like that dealing with your customers? read more

Not well taken care of and now is expensive. The "Marshall" goes around inspecting people's coolers like a psychopath. Grew up going here but those days are done. Other courses in the area are so much more appealing now. SCAM WARNING: Employee Theft Attempt and Zero Accountability Rating: 1/5 Stars (Horrible) I recently played Shorecliffs Golf Club for the first and absolutely last time, and I am compelled to share this warning about their business practices and management. The Incident: Credit Card Scam and Cash Theft When I went to pay my green fee in the pro shop, the employee on duty attempted to run my credit card. They immediately told me the transaction was declined and asked if I had cash. Trusting the staff, I paid the required amount in cash. Later that day, I checked my bank statement and saw that the original credit card transaction HAD actually gone through, meaning the employee double-charged me and effectively pocketed the cash, resulting in me being charged twice for a single round--an attempt at theft right out of the gate. Zero Managerial Accountability I immediately contacted the club and spoke with the manager, Luis. Instead of immediately investigating the theft attempt and refunding my money, his first reaction was to ask if he could "just comp me for the next round." I explained again that his employee took cash from me, to which he astonishingly replied that Shorecliffs does not take cash. I politely requested a credit card refund and a call back once they investigated the security footage, providing him with a full description of the time and what I was wearing. Luis promised to follow up with a receipt and an explanation. The Aftermath It has now been 10 days, and I have never received a single call back or explanation from Luis or anyone at Shorecliffs. While I was able to successfully dispute the credit card charge through my bank and get my money back that way, the utter silence from management speaks volumes. This is a failure of basic business ethics. To have an employee attempt to rob a first-time customer, and then have the manager completely fail to investigate or provide accountability, is atrocious. The Course Itself The course was nothing special and certainly not worth this level of hassle. I would strongly advise anyone considering playing here to take their business to a professionally run facility. Save yourself the trouble and play the San Clemente Municipal course or Talega instead. DO NOT GOLF HERE. read more

Even as they have done renovations to front-of-house and have tried to upgrade the status of the course, the management at Shorecliffs demonstrates little regard for patrons' concerns; they have received complaints about a marshall who goes by the nickname "Skip", who is overly combative, has serious behavioral issues, and has cursed/cussed at golfers who do not obey his every command. He clearly shows a pathological dysfunction where he has a need to exercise power and requires others to obey him so that he can be whole, as a man or person. -- If management has him doing all this just so he can get free golf, it truly shows how poor the leadership at Shorecliffs is. The golfing experience is already horrid here, to, on top of all the negative aspects of the course, allow one guy to make it even worse for everyone else. The guy Skip should not be allowed to represent the brand of the course in any capacity. -- Why is management so bent on keeping him on? Even other paid staff at the course agreed that Skip is a real problem and no one likes him. I know so many golfers who won't come back to Shorecliffs just because of him -- why management can't see it, it's truly incredible. read more

I have been playing this course for close to 40 years. I've seen it in terrible shape, I've seen it in decent shape, I've seen it in good shape. I have always left a decent and honest review. This time however I can't. It's not the course thats in question. I realized I had left an expensive jacket in the cart basket behind the seat. I completely forgot about it until 2 days after playing. Over the years I have played there, I have periodically left items behind both expensive and inexpensive. I understand its my fault to begin with . That being said I have never gotten back any of the expensive items including the jacket mentioned. A place is only as good as its employees . I would have thought since all the improvements made, the staff would have been improvement as well. Im posting this in case you're thinking about playing here that you make sure you remove EVERYTHING before you hand in the cart. Because if it's nice or expensive consider it gone. I will still play here, but I will no longer tip any bag boy or cart boy. I also won't eat here again. read more

I played a 12:00pm round in February 2024 and had a pretty good time because of the people I was with. The clubhouse looked brand new (which I found out was freshly renovated) BUT whenever I walked up to the bar to get a drink, no one would help me. There were two bartenders working but they didn't really pay attention to me until I talked to them first. The bar had 3 other golfers in it so they were not busy when this happened. The front 9 is VERY narrow so be prepared to find some new balls in the OB areas. The back 9 is wider and I played much better there. We payed $85 for 18 and I'm not quite sure it's worth that yet. They are updating the course so we had to play a weird 2 holes on an original par 5 which was fine I guess - felt like a links play almost. I hope to come back and actually have a round worth $85 so I can update my review. read more

I've visited Shorecliffs Golf Course three times now, and each visit has reminded me just how lacking the food and service are. It's clear that customer service is not a priority for the current management, as the experience has been consistently disappointing. On our most recent visit, the restaurant was nearly empty, yet we still waited 50 minutes for our food. We ordered hamburgers and sat on the patio, only to be completely forgotten. When I went inside to check, the young waitress admitted she forgot about us but had placed the order quite sometime ago. The burgers were cold when they finally arrived--though the fries were hot--and all of the tables outside were dirty. Oh, and never returned to ask if we wanted more drinks. We mentioned the long wait and cold food when paying the bill, but the only response was a dismissive "Oh sorry." No accountability, no attempt to make things right. I did mention it while another server stood there listening. What's more, our neighbors have shared similar experiences and frustrations--so this isn't just a one-off issue. It's a pattern, and it's evidently driving people away. To the management at Shorecliffs: please fix these ongoing problems. Improve the service, maintain cleanliness, and start valuing your customers. Maybe then we'll consider returning. read more

The brand new club house is now official open. It's beautiful inside with 3 indoor driving range simulators. The women's league plays on the first Thursday of the month. On the down side the course is pretty torn up and they are charging 80..not the best deal and only 1 hole has a peak a boo view of the ocean. read more

I have been going to Shorecliffs every once in a while for years. Over the last few years the course has been getting modified and repaired, and after playing today I can say this course has gone from a two-star course to competing with other courses around like the Municipal course just a couple miles away. Every time I play here the experience is better, I'm excited to play here again soon! read more

I came here with friends for Happy Hour. Due to a misunderstanding I had to return the next day to discuss my bill. Management went above and beyond to rectify the issue. Low quality course for high quality prices, t boxes are disgustingly bad, greens are still being worked on, the brand new hole has you teeing off in some crab grass even though there's 3 brand new t boxes, everything is white staked so big penalties on a tight course, no pace of play management, seems like they care more about the restaurant and bar then they do about having a quality golf course. read more

Everything can be improved horrible course conditions, very disrespectful warden and people at the pro shop. We were accused by workers of stealing clubs, headcovers, and a cart. They claimed to say they asked for our id to see if we were old enough to get carts and they did not and then they proceeded to say we were lying and that they did. Next i saw a asked the one of the workers if he worked at the local bagel shop cause i thought i saw him there and he starting being aggressive and acting as if i was provoking him trying to come at me. These workers are extremely disrespectful and the course is in horrible condition if your thinking about playing here don't. read more

We had our 4th get food poisoning the night before and unable to make our 7am. They still charged us a $40 fee. I've never had anyone course charge us for something that was so unexpected. Fun course but.... Horrible signage for which hole goes where.. the lawn crew was on every hole we played and ran over our ball with a wheel , we ended up jumping to the next hole to get away from them blocking the cart path and the noise . We got yelled at for one hole that say cart path only .. I'm pretty good with signs but have to say it was so small and placed in a dum area it was unnoticeable . Used to come here a few years ago when they were renovating and still operated out of the trailer and was not impressed at all at that time, patchy fairways, expensive green fees, and busy all the time. Now that the renovations are complete I can say this is one of the better low-mid range golf courses in OC, there are definitely better courses out there but you are going to pay a lot more to play them, this is perfectly suitable to go out and enjoy a round on, and you are by the beach so you get the cool ocean breeze, 60$ for green fees with a cart is not bad when other places have you hitting off mats for 40$ on a par 3 course. After reading the reviews I've never experienced anything negative with the employees, my problem is the course conditions and the price. How is this more than $29 with a cart? Because it's Orange County? The fairways are cooked, narrow, and I feel like there's always a worker in a lawn mower on every hole. This course recently had a revamp and they forgot to touch up the fairways. Why did golf get so expensive and the maintenance quality drop. Great value and golf experience. Major improvements to the course keep most of what was obviously a challenging course in the 1960s. Still plenty of challenge and the greens are always in great shape. San Clemente now has two of the best golf vaules in South OC. San Clemente Municipal is hard to beat (best value in OC), but if you don't live there it is tough to get a tee time. Shorecliffs always seems to have tee times available. This makes zero sense to me and I don't think that will be the case for long. read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. This is a difficult review to write because I have grown up playing golf at shorecliffs for the past 32 years. I also would like to start this review with saying I respected the fact so much money was being invested into the club over the last 3 years. All that being said, I'm actually happy to say that today is the last round I will ever play at this golf course. The price is unspeakable ($110?!?! For a 6,000 yard course in rough shape, don't have bathrooms on the course, no water in the 1 water cooler on the front, and trying to play slow so the greens mower can get in front of my group to play on mowed greens). On top of that you have a semi that drives by on the first green. You have "security guards" driving by multiple times during the round without stopping for the paying golfers pay. The Marshall was seen 1 time on hole 4 and was never seen again even though the group in front of me was 1-2 holes behind all day and never saw that group behind me all day. There are so many other courses to pay a premium for where you will get a premium experience. I understand troon golf has taken over management of this golf course but I cannot recommend enough to not put your money. I hope troon realizes there mistakes but I'm not holding my breath. I highly recommend skipping Shorecliffs golf course and spending your money doing literally anything else. read more

Played last week and was thrilled with the upgrades. Clubhouse is a beaut. Great place to start or end a round. The new facilities are fantastic. Wedged for half an hour on the chipping green before the round started and rolled some putts on the new practice greens. New carts. We played on a weekday, We rolled out at 12 and finished at 3:30 without seeing another group until 15. It was glorious. Upgrades to the course are coming along as well, the crazy uphill par 3 now has a leveled out area for players who can't reach the top. Par 4 in the valley in backside is back open and a gem. Water features are beautiful and a great addition. Had a great time. Always have. Will come back whenever I visit cali again to see the final product. read more
