From the administrators to the teachers to the custodial staff, everyone here is a gem. Incredibly kind, patient, and dedicated. We love attending the events the school holds, which are often for fun but also very often to service the community. We really align with the ethos of both the teaching practices and worldview of Sunny Hollow. A small but important fact: there's a surprising amount of diversity in my daughter's classroom, especially considering the neighborhood. It's been great seeing that and I hope that stays true as she grows into the older classrooms. Something to note: Sunny Hollow is very much a school and not a daycare, even for toddlers. There's a specific ten minute window for drop offs in the morning, and the after school program is from 3:30 to 4:30. They have a specific curriculum for the kids that they stick to. We personally love this, because it's definitely helped our daughter develop beyond what's expected of a two-year-old, and it's actually really nice that we see her as going to school, not going to daycare. A big thing that's been a massive plus: they spearhead toilet training from the get go. A couple months after our oldest daughter started at Sunny Hollow, our second daughter was born. We were (and are) so swamped in trying to take care of two very young kids, we barely did anything with toilet training. Our daughter, because of her guidance at school, started wanting to go on the potty at home all by herself. We're still in the midst of training, but it's been more or less painless. Our youngest daughter is only four months old but we already put in her application to go to Sunny Hollow. So happy to be a part of their community!

WTM was the only one that talked about helping to teach our son how to be a "good" person rather than only focusing on skills, e.g. playing chess by age 2. The teachers in the toddler room have been amazing, my husband calls the lead toddler teacher "the toddler whisperer" because of her natural ability to handle all toddler situations and challenges. Our son has really bonded with the teachers because they put a lot of effort into understanding his individual needs. We love the fact that toddlers spend so much time outside and engage in variety of activities, from doing different types of art work, planting a garden, to enjoying picnic lunch every Tuesday in the summer. It's always a pleasant surprise when our son offers to help or says "thank you" when it wasn't solicited. That reinforces the fact that the teachers at WTM are putting as much effort into conveying the social norms and values as they do into teaching the skills. If you are reading this review you may be wondering (just like we were) about the best place for your child to begin their education. What do you look for? Will your child feel comfortable and welcome ? What can you expect from a Montessori education? This school had everything we were looking for and more. They offer morning and afternoon sessions and they offer both 3-day and 5-day programs. The class sizes are small and social and you likely won't find more caring and passionate educators than Miss Nora and Miss Susan. Plus, the tuition is affordable and some assistance is available. We are almost done with our son's first year and we are planning to enroll him for a second year in the fall. Our daughter will be going there, too - no doubt in my mind. You should know that this is a small school with a close-knit connection between children, teachers and parents and they ask for parents to play an active role in the school if you can spare the time. This isn't the "drop your kid off in the parking lot" kind of place and we love how our son has blossomed in the quiet and challenging environment under the Montessori philosophy practiced at Kinderhaus Montessori. Both children are excited to go to school and are proud of the work that they do and what they are able to accomplish. We also love the sense of community the school fosters, including that younger students are paired with an older student mentor. One of the biggest differentiators is access to the land school in Wisconsin -- what a treat for city children to get to explore, work with animals and gardens, and have overnight opportunities with their peers. Every time my children bring up equity or social justice issues or demonstrate a deep understanding of a topic that seems beyond their years, I am reminded of why we choose Lake Country and am thankful for the opportunity.
