We called Norblom Plumbing due to a broken outdoor water pipe. Due to how a previous owner originally ran the pipe it was in a very hard to reach and maintain crawlspace under the house. Paul from Norblom assessed the situation and came up with a more cost affordable and easier to maintain solution for us to close up the broken pipe in the hard to reach location and run new pipe (up to code) to the side of the house. During his inspection he also found an issue with our dryer vent not being properly hooked up which is not something we would have noticed on our own. He was right on time in his time window, was very friendly, took the time to explain things to me, and most importantly was in and out in a few hours. Norblom Plumbing claims that I am a valued customer. In reality, it values only my bank account. Another thing Norblom values is its time. Yes, it values its time at nearly $200 per hour. As a valued customer, how much does Norblom value my time? My time is valued at $0 per hour. I waited nearly three hours for the highwayman to show up. That is three hours I could have been working to fortify my bank account against the onslaught it was about to face. I called Norblom to inquire as to what it might cost to replace a hose bib. I was told $250 plus parts--not outrageous. This was not a complex job. I would have completed it myself for less than $100 were I not disabled. I scheduled the *appointment*. After a brief examination, the plumber stated that he probably did not have the right part, but he could probably jerry rig something. At this point, I should have bid the rogue adieu, but I would have had to pay $150 for the privilege of waiting three hours and having nothing completed. I okayed it--my second mistake. My OK opened up a barrage from the parts cannon, the likes of which I have never witnessed. He had to remove the garbage disposal to make room for his exquisite work of art in copper. Upon reassembly, the trap leaked. Of course, that necessitated the nearly complete replacement of my kitchen sink drain/waste assembly. The invoice totaled more than $600. read more

Our utility faucet was dripping last month and the plumber came out with a new brass faucet that goes for about $50 retail, replaced it in less than an hour, told me to "find a drain guy" when asked to check the slow drain, and kept me standing in the basement for over 10 minutes as he tried to get me a bill. Would he respect my time and go upstairs where the signal was stronger, or simply text or email me once tech issues were resolved? He would not. And when I was concerned with the $400+ bill? He insisted they sent an estimate and left. Manager Mike later discovered an error and brought the bill down to $387, then said Norblom's prices are better than their competitors. When I mentioned we always had fair prices with Bonfe, he insisted they would have charged double. That didn't work for me, but for those who appreciate poor service, high prices and gaslighting? We had a leaking 30-year-old water heater that needed to be replaced. Michael Kostecky from Norblom came out right away and gave us a reasonable estimate with an explanation as to what would be done. In discussing with the city a potential code issue with a stand-alone toilet in close proximity to the water heater connections area (which Michael alerted us to), our city's inspector informed us that Norblom would be his choice because of their solid reputation. He said he sees only excellent work from them. We went ahead with Norblom. Michael returned just a couple days later to install a new Rheem water heater. He was here for less than two hours and by all accounts did excellent work. He also tolerated our barking mini schnauzers. We give Norblom a solid 5/5 stars. They're great. read more

The weekend before Thanksgiving 2023 my water heater started to fail, with water leaking onto the floor. In despair (both fearing the price and even the potential of no plumber being able to replace it before Thanksgiving arrived) I reached out to a few companies. I chose Norblom as they were able to confirm they could do the job before the holiday commenced. I expected to pay a premium for the service, and perhaps I did; however, to pay about $2,200 for a 12-year-life 40-gallon water heater with Norblom is about what I paid nine years ago for an 8-year water heater put in by the despicable, deceitful and underhanded Uptown Plumbing, Heating and Cooling (now hiding behind the ridiculous name of "Hero" Plumbing, Heating & Cooling. Moreover, Norblom didn't try to up-sell any "Happy Home" programs that are designed to further fleece the homeowner. The Norblom installer was on time, efficient and informative: turns out he does recommend flushing your water heater (flush, don't just drain) once a year if you live in St. Louis Park. Our ten year old water heater began leaking due to a corroded liner. On Monday morning I called Norblom to schedule the installation of a new unit. I've used them three times now to bring various bits of our fifties-era plumbing up to this century - a faucet, an outdoor spigot and toilet hardware (including a shutoff valve that had worn out). I requested on-line through Yelp help with a frozen pipe in my house at about 10pm and within 15 mins or less we had a super helpful reply with a link to see if we could fix it ourselves. As it turned out we called them a couple days later and Jim provided helpful info and additional tips we could try ourselves as well as pricing if we wanted them to come out to our place. We felt like we were listened to and supported during a stressful time. Just those two interactions and their prior Yelp reviews, made us decide that we will definitely be going to Norblom Plumbing for any plumbing needs going forward! Great service, but work hard and charge hard as well. Quotes are always under. For the labor, they charge prep time, clean up time, work time, and wait time (waiting for water turning on, waiting for inspector....) as well. I could understand that the plumber didn't want to wet my CONCRETE BASEMENT floor, but it costs me another 10 minutes of labor to wait until the water doesn't come out from the pipe anymore. The coordination is poor. The plumber didn't show at the first appointment. The material is good quality but three, four times more expansive than the most expansive you can find at home centers. Norblom Plumbing Eek! Methinks not. Norblom Plumbing charges Labor and Materials. Their Labor rates are "average". I was quoted over the phone 1-2 hours of labor. It ended up taking my plumber 3H 15 minutes. They charge $47 every 15 minutes. So I was not very happy about that, it seemed very much like a bait and switch. What really upset me was the amount they charge for materials. I was charged $303 for $70 worth of materials. $82 for 12'-0" of 3/8" copper tubing..... that's an insane markup that should cost $12-$20 not $81! It was like that for every single item they billed for materials. Look somewhere else for fair plumbing work. read more

I checked Yelp before looking for a plumbing business to help us with an issue another company had called to our attention. Norblom had lots of ardent fans and very few less-than-positive reviews, so I called them. When I described the problem, the nice lady on the phone said we needed to talk to a project manager. Yikes! Sounded serious. Steve and I connected after a few tries, and he was always responsive. I called on a Friday, and he got here Monday first thing. He spent quite a bit of time with me, looking at the exterior of the house, up and down three flights of stairs several times. He basically said that they would be happy to do the work we might need, but it would be very expensive and not really necessary. I wasn't charged a penny for his valuable time (25+ years of experience). I was so impressed with his expertise, practical approach, honesty and generosity, Norblom will be the first place I call for work, and I've already shared my story with the entire neighborhood. When will all the on-a-quota, over-selling companies realize that word gets around that they care more for themselves than the customer? I bet Norblom gets more calls than anyone, and more repeat business and referrals, because their friendly, honest, practical approach appeals to hard-working, honest people of the Twin Cities. I got a ballpark estimate of how involved and expensive my job-a kitchen faucet and leaky pipe to a toilet- would be when I made the appointment. Kurt was exactly on time and very professional. Even though another issue was discovered with the toilet, he had everything he needed in his truck and got it all done in an hour! I woke up one morning to realize that my sewer is backing up in my basement! Oh boy, not the best way to start a day. I started calling some local places with decent ratings and when they didn't call us back after an hour or so, I started to look for more options. There was this Get a Quote feature on Yelp that I haven't tried before. I decided to give it a try. I put my message with my name and contact details and I am able to send it to some or I can choose more to include to send. These send as a message to the business and when they reply to you it is also a message. It worked out well. One thing i learned is a plumber isn't used to clear a clogged pipe, you need a pipe cleaning crew. Not all plumbers can do that or have the equipment to do it. A woman from the office called to say they could be out in an hour or 2. The lady on the phone was polite and professional, she discussed the rates they charge and the prices that I may be looking at and I agreed to have them come out. $149.00 to clean out the drain if it takes less than an hour. Not bad. They also followed-up with a message on Yelp to be clear. I felt good, I headed to work and left my wife to work from home and answer any more calls that come to the house. I went to work and headed back home during lunch to try to catch the guy working on our pipes. He was there and gone before I could get there. My clog was under the house which means it wasn't roots or broken pipes between me and the street. There was some good news. My wife said his name was john, he was very friendly and polite also. My wife felt bad for what he had to dig through but he made her feel at ease and went to work. He discovered that it was wet wipes that caused our issue. We will not be flushing those anymore. We have also started buying the flush-able ones to minimize the chance of this happening again. Thank you for a job well done. I highly recommend these guys. Very disappointed!!! "our neighborhood favorite" this is a SCAM business! I had no pressure water coming from the kitchen sank, guy comes in takes a look from the bottom sink and right away told me it cannot be fixed today, told me the problems are the pipes he thinks but doesn't know exactly until he breaks down my walls downstairs ceiling that connect to the pipe to see what's wrong with the pressure and pipes, estimate couple thousands dollars. I asked if there someway to do a short cut and he said at least $1700 to reconnect to a different pipe! 30mins conversation charged me $100 for not getting anything done! A week goes by my dad decides to fix it himself ( he 74 years old really didn't want him to fix it) took him 2 hours it replace the bottom pipes and valve, water comes back up in the kitchen! I just saved couple thousands dollars from a unnecessary work, the Material cost him less than $100 dollars! Be very careful, if you seem like you don't know what you doing, they well trick you and charge you 4x times than what it really cost! read more

I couldn't be happier with the service we received from Norblom. They were fast, nice, responsive, reasonably priced, and professional. Moreover, they were able to send someone to our condo within a few days. We had our awful Ikea faucet replaced. They charged time + material; the first hour is more expensive, I wanna say something like ~$200. The next hour is a teeny bit cheaper, and they charge by the 15 minutes. No silly charges for coming here and no silly diagnostic/pricing fees. They even recommended good hardware/fixtures - basically told me to stick to Delta, Moen, and Kohler. *** Update *** Norblom (Kurt to be specific) has been by our place multiple times. He has changed multiple fixtures for us (shower, bathroom sink, kitchen, etc), and he has also replaced a water line to the fridge ice maker. Each experience has been great. In September 2014 I installed a new toilet in my condominium. While purchasing a new toilet at Menards ($200 on sale) the sales person there was telling me how easy it is to install a new toilet and he was sure I could do it myself. However - since I live in a building that is almost 50 years old and this was what I believed to be the original toilet I was a little hesitant to tackle this DIY project. If I lived in a home that was only 10-15 years old it would probably be a different story. I brought the toilet home and phoned Norblom a few days later to have a plumber install it. I was able to get an appointment the very next day which was great. I've used Norblom on three other occassions for a sink and dishwasher install. The plumber arrived shortly after the time window they provided and immediately went to work - since they work on a time and material basis there was no small talk and wasted time on his part which I appreciated. Total time for install was about 90 minutes and the cost was $290 which was for time, materials and removal of old toilet. As I suspected - given the age of the building it took a little bit longer to clean/prep the flange area. In addition, either the floor or toilet bottom was not flat so it rocked a small amount so he needed to install some shims to level it which added some time. Overall - I am once again pleased with the service of Norblom and having the job done professionally and correctly the first time. read more

I had to call a plumber. It's not a sexy or exciting way to drop a wad of cash, but necessary nonetheless. So I went onto Yelp to see who my fellow Yelper's have used and like - and found Norblom Plumbing Co. I set up my call for this morning between 8-9:00 am. Jim, my new plumber friend, arrived about 8:15 and got started. Jim was friendly and courteous and kept me informed at every step. My dog was going absolutely bat-shit crazy because I didn't let her out to see who was here - so I checked to make sure he wasn't anti-dog and let her out. She flirted with him relentlessly for a good 5 minutes (dammit Trixie, he's on the clock!). This is actually a good sign because sometimes she is so terrified of new visitors she cowers in the corner and piddles on the floor (sadly, this is true). This is pertinent to my review because I can't have people in my house who make my dog cower in fear. Trixie likes him, he must be a good guy. Jim gave me some good advice on some upcoming projects I will need him for, cleaned up after himself, took all my money and left. Aside from the being broke part, it was pretty painless. These are the reviews that you never hope you have to write. But unfortunately in home ownership, these things, in my case, an extremely leaky sink, happen. Trying to find a plumber to come over to my house on short-notice during this stupid Polar Vortex was really difficult. Everyone was backed up because of this damn deep freeze we've been having. I called Norblom, explained my situation (leaky sink, I'm the owner of the house that I rent out, needed ASAP, etc.) and they were there within hours. They had no problem letting me pay and not be there and were sure to call me afterwards to say exactly what they did and also gave me suggestions for future maintenance. They made it EASY and they were so nice a each step in the process. If I ever have a plumbing need in the future (fingers, toes, legs, eyes, EVERYTHING crossed that I don't) I'll be sure to call them. read more

I called and requested a quote for a new water heater as my old one was done working. I spoke with Mike and after sending him a few pictures of my existing water heater set-up an appointment was scheduled for the next day. Everything went well, it took an hour and a half overall to remove the old heater and install the new one. Paul the plumber was efficient and answered my questions as he worked. Had my 15+ year old water heater replaced today by Norblom Plumbing. When I called earlier in the week with questions about the run needed for a powered damper (my previous heater had a very shallow angle), Mike had me take pictures, fully assessed my needs and set up an appt to get the water heater replaced just 3 days later. The installer arrived today - 40 mins early (but he called first and asked permission to come early) - and he had scheduled help to have him remove my old water heater and bring the new one in to the basement. They laid down painters cloth to protect my carpeted stairs and completed the job in just over an hour. My wife and I were shown how this unit works - it's damper is powered compared to my previous unit -- and all works great. The team fully cleaned up the work area and filled out my Xcel Energy rebate form for me to send in for a $150 rebate (done!). Overall - very happy with the service, speed, friendliness.
