If i could put lower stars i would!! RUDE workers, LONG wait, RIDICULOUS service. We ordered a hot water, and a drip coffee. first of all they charged us $3 for a hot water, which is outrageous; never seen a coffee shop charge us for a hot water before. Next, 20 minutes later we saw the owner make a hot water and drip coffee, then place it to the side, and begin a new order. My mom walked over and asked "this is mine right? we ordered a hot water and a drip coffee" and she goes "yeah but i have to check it." Both our items were there which we watched her make. 35 minutes have passed now and we say "we've been waiting 35 minutes and it's a hot water and drip coffee. we watched you make it, it's right there. can we have it?" and the owner looks us into the eyes and says "yeah! when you order, you wait." Absolutely ridiculous experience over what should have taken MAYBE 20 mins tops because that's when it was made. why did it sit there for 15 minutes?? pricing was also ridiculous for drinks in idaho. i think this place is the most expensive i have seen in sandpoint for coffee. p.s. responding to the owner - i don't remember saying in my review that we had ever cut the line or grabbed drinks from their bar. the barista literally confirmed that our order was ready and still refused to give it to us. why taunt the customer by forcing them to stare at their order on the counter? "checking it" meant leaving it there for 15 minutes without doing anything to it before handing it to us. read more

Friendly service. Warm atmosphere. Plenty space for seating. I'm docking a star for a charge of $1 EACH for alternative milk AND flavor of syrup. Though they charged only 50 cents for flavor for one drink? Where's the consistency? I'm confused. We're from Los Angeles and this kind of pricing in Idaho is absurd. Coffee was good, however. Disappointed. Not cool to nickel and dime customers to death. We purchased a large coffee and two very small (and rather gross) burritos - total approx $20 and she wouldn't give us a cup of water. I have never, in all of my years traveling, had to pay for tap water. Our friends from Sandpoint were embarrassed and shocked to hear about it. She offered us salsa with the burritos but didn't tell us it was going to cost more. Not cool! The burritos were awful; we couldn't finish them. She also gave us a fork and no knife to eat a burrito. Really? Very strange. She also couldn't be bothered to bring our order to the table - three or four steps away....A small gesture when there were no other customers. No wonder no one was in the cafe. Definitely won't be back. I recommend going to Bluebird Bakery. Much nicer place with much better Sandpoint manners and culture. P.S. Notice how defiant the owner is in her respond? Shows her lack of business acumen. She does the same on anyone who leaves a negative review. She's not interested in improving customer satisfaction. read more

I ordered a dirty chai latte, and the coffee itself was burnt and bitter, I couldn't tasted the chai at all. The latte had decent foam on top which was nice to see, but the milk was scorched. MMC is the only place i get coffee whenever i come back home to sandpoint. The owner is super friendly, her menu has local options for coffee, my fave is scheweizer white chocolate. She has baked goods that are delicious! I love coming here at 7:30am, grabbing my coffee and take a walk along the bay trail. Never had a bad experience! read more

Nice stop on our way to Schweitzer Mountain as part of a Idaho roadtrip. Great cup if Mayan spicy mocha (loved the cayenne twist). Big fan of the murals inside and outside, and unique use of canvas sacks on the ceiling. The woman who served be was very kind and knowledgeable. read more

I just arrived in Sandpoint Idaho and needed a place to relax for an hour or two while I wait for my sister to pick me up. Someone suggested this place, and I love it! Although I doubt they need further references, the place was packed (and it is a pretty large coffee house). There is a little fireplace and coffee bags cover the ceiling. Great ambiance and the staff is friendly too. My hot tea was only $1! And it looks like they offer live music. This is a nice ole' fashioned coffee shop with fairly good WiFi to do computer work. There are plenty of board games to hang out with friends, and the staff is very nice. Kind of 'hippyish', which is okay with me. I was doing remote computer work here, and needed a spot with WiFi and refills on coffee. They gave me a coffee cup to use and said I could get refills. I've gone here a couple of times, and the coffee never has really been that great. I prefer to make Folgers at home in my coffee pot. But this is a good spot to hang out, and there is someone who teaches guitar in the back room, I think. read more

After staying in a hotel and anticipating horrible coffee, I stopped into Monarch Mountain to get my usual caffeine fix. The menu had a variety of espresso drinks, teas and fruit smoothies. There were baked goods that appeared to be made in store. After grabbing a cup of coffee, I spoke with one of the baristas, he suggested beans based on my flavor preferences, and was spot on. Any long time Sandpoint Resident of Sandpoint know that Monarch has gone through it's own sporadic ages. Bronze Age- pre 2006, developed a solid Customer base that came out and hung out for the Saturday Farmers market, before work. Golden Age-2007-2009ish they introduced the breakfast burrito and the staff was wonderful and people met to hang out. 2010-2012 monarch made the expansion and attempted to create a night life, well intended but mostly unsuccessful. Currently- unmentionable. Throughout it all monarch has served extremely poor, artificially strengthened coffee. Syrupy and powdered like you could buy it at a grocery store. The average clientele lurks around the wifi, silently glaring at one another. read more

For an excellent cup of coffee or tea, while visiting Sandpoint, ID one cannot go wrong at Monarch Mountain Coffee!! Plus, what a fabulous location and amazingly awesome view!! Makes whatever one gets taste even better while the staff do an incredible job of making sure everyone is taken good care of and of course, the owners make everyone feel instantly "at home". It was my first visit to Sandpoint, ID but I felt like a "local regular" in no time due to the smiles, attention and making sure I was satisfied with my order (I was!). It is obvious the entire staff from top to bottom are well-trained and care about the product and service they provide to ALL of their customers and everything looked great! I highly recommend Monarch Mountain Coffee as a great place to sit, relax, enjoy whatever is your preferred choice and make sure to take advantage of the spectacular view!! Whenever you are in Sandpoint Idaho and you want to get good things to eat, follow the hippies that are riding on their mountain bikes. They will not steer you wrong. I LOVE the setting here, very relaxed, cozy, and WARM feeling, unlike Evans Bros which feels so stark and cold to me. This place feels more like the coffee shop on the show Friends. They have couches, chairs, tables, boardgames and books to borrow, etc. The ceiling is covered in coffee sacks. Every drink Ive ordered had been delicious. The staff friendliness is hit or miss. I've gone to this place for over 15 years, off and on. The coffee has generally been good, over the years but my most recent experience was underwhelming. We ordered two chicken caesar wraps; the owner took the order and made the food. It took a very long time- 15 minutes or more, even though the place was nearly empty. When we finally received the wraps, the sauce was something with a mayo base, and there was far too much of it. I was unable to finish it and felt sick afterwards. Lastly, the service was halfhearted, disappointing since the owner was the server. Don't know if I'll go back again. read more

They have great coffee and a relaxed atmosphere. Its a favorite to get some work done and has ample space to meet friends.

They roast their own coffee, and I find it pretty tasty, but I don't drink it black. I also really enjoy the atmosphere in there. It's usually relatively quiet...people reading the paper, on their computers, or with friends. Service is friendly and quick. It's a nice place to stop before heading into your day. She didn't seem happy to help is or interested in our patronage. From the way she spoke to us and other customers it seemed as though she couldn't have cared less. I found this place by accident but am glad I did. Good roasted coffee, decent burritos for breakfast and a relaxed vibe. This is where the locals go for coffee and so should you. Coffee is good, but the decor is struggling. I over heard the staff say that they did not want to undercut other local coffee houses nearby, so they keep their prices well above the average. What?!?! They do the best Mocha I have had, with some special chocolate they do. In comparison to Evans Brothers nearby the staff are not as professional. You can hear their conversations about adult toys from anywhere in the shop. I would love to see this coffee shop change with their environment and spruce up their place a bit, but with nearby coffee shops having better prices and decor and better coffee, they will struggle to stay afloat in such a small town. I think it's also not good to talk about customers as they walk out, as you are not sure what they will say about you when you do. They have excellent internet. Burritos are excellent too. Also if they are going to have people singing in the shop, the singer needs to try to just be background noise, due to the low ceilings it can be a bit too loud for a small building. read more
