Pancake with bacon and apples= delicious!
Teresa S.

I was in the area specifically looking for another popular breakfast establishment. However, I was starving and didn't feel like getting lost to find the more "touristy" spot. I had passed this restaurant while riding the tram. I checked out the menu and got excited about all the different pancake options. The restaurant wasn't crowded and I was addressed as soon as I walked in. The staff were very friendly and the place felt warm and cozy. I sat down and it took me about 10 minutes to decide which pancakes concoction to get. I finally decided on the pancakes with bacon and apples. The pancake is actually a large crepe with whatever ingredients you want inside. The original syrup taste more like molasses. When I received my food I was super excited because the meal looked and smelled heavenly. I devoured the pancake like I hadn't ate in days, it was sooo delicious. It looked more fulfilling than it was because my greedy self could've eaten another one. If you're in the area, this is definitely a place to check out for your breakfast fix. There are less crowds and prices are very affordable.

I had the wonderful fortune to stumble across Mondrian while I was touring the streets of Amsterdam. Everything about this place was exquisite, from the classic casual-Dutch ambiance to the dynamite pancakes. I ordered the honey-walnut-goat cheese pancake, and my mouth is still watering thinking of it. It was fluffy, and tasty, and fresh. The server and the chef were gracious and friendly. The interior is super clean and quaintly decorated with classic blue and white patterns. My review and photos can't begin to do this place the applause it deserves. If you're looking for an authentic, and inexpensive, quintessential Amsterdam pancake, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!

We were there the day after Kings day and it was a lovely morning. The weather was cool, but not cold and we were able to enjoy the nice breeze and canal boats passing by. I was also able to connect to the WiFi from the Casino across the river. It was weak, but still worked. We were seated outside and waited almost 10 minutes before anyone came by to take our order for food and drinks. We ordered the banana crepe to share and I got a coffee while my wife ordered the pear juice. The pair juice comes from a bottle. The coffee was served in a small cup and was ok. I am used to drinking it with cream and sweetener. But Europeans don't have these items, so I just drank it with sugar. I think we waited almost 30 minutes before our food came out. Now, we only ordered crepes with bananas inside. Usually at the mall, it takes a few minutes to make crepes. I don't know how it took almost 30 minutes for them to make 1 item. Mind you, the place was not full when we came, so I don't understand how long we had to wait for our server to order our food and why it took so long for them to make our food. Once it finally came out, I thought the crepe was good, but not out of your mind fantastic. It's just basic tbh. Will I ever come back, probably not due to the wait time and the food wasn't all that great.

I tried some ham and cheese baguette and I think there's cheese was much thicker than the ham but I would definitely like more ham. In general this place has the carousel as the main attraction - it sort of reminds me of a cheaper version of Disney. Looks kind of touristy and old school. There's lots of seating and I think the host wasn't really there to seat us but there was a wait to be seated sign. We took a booth by the window. The service was extremely slow and the workers are definitely understaffed here and I don't understand why because there's outside and inside seating and there were only two workers for over 30/40 tables. The Dutch pancakes were the best thing on the menu but I think they just taste like hot cakes with sugar on top- so I didn't find anything super special to ever come back here again.

You see we had the good fortune of befriending Senna who volunteered to serve (in his words) as our "tour guide & waiter." When Senna asked if Dana preferred sweet or savory, she replied (in brilliant fashion), "How about both?" This prompted his face to light up as he told us he had the perfect recommendations. Following his lead we ordered the "Bacon, Apple, and Butter" Pannenkoeken and the "Mixed Fruit and Whipped Cream" Poffertjes. What's amazing to me is that about half way through our meal I noticed that the bottle of syrup on the table hadn't been touched (or even considered). I mean, how could syrup possibly enhance such a wonderful compliment of flavors? No, its inclusion simply wouldn't be tolerated! If you want to blaze your own trail at "De Carrousel" they offer more than 50 options to choose from and I'd recommend sharing a combination of pannenkoeken and poffertjes amongst your party. Be sure to make time to wander around the restaurant a bit. Not only are the center carrousel horses a unique touch, but the kitchen's close proximity to the dining area can make you feel as if you have a role in the preparation of the pannenkoeken and poffertjes! True to his word, Senna provided us with a handwritten, two-sided, list of recommendations that he divided into the categories of "Culture", "Restaurants", and "Date Night." And that's...Henry's Take. #pannenkoeken #poffertjes #dutchhospitality

As the morning clientele began to trickle in, this was reflected in the patrons who were distinctly local and seemed to have a lot of regulars. When creating the Yelp! Entry, their hours also reflected this, as it was basically 9am to about 8pm... or whenever they felt like closing earlier or later; it wasn't a set time. We tried the "Dutch Pancakes" with cheese and ham, which the waitress informed us was a very typical Netherlands pancake. It was quite thin (very much like a crepe), and the toppings fairly nice. I wouldn't call it spectacular, but - tourist alert - I haven't had enough of the local pancakes to make any overall evaluation of its authentic nature. Overall, it's a more than decent restaurant, has the advantage that it's open earlier than other "breakfast" places in the area, and the prices are reasonable.

All the seats outside were taken so we sat inside and experience the lovely smell coming out of the kitchen above stairs. For drinks we got a fresh OJ, a cappuccino and a hot chocolate with whipped cream - all of us really enjoyed our drinks. You get charged more for hot chocolate with the whipped creme, but it was worth it. Service wasn't that quick but appreciate the fact that everything is cooked fresh and so that takes time. I didn't have any experience with Dutch pancakes and so had expected to have lemon rinds or something in mine, so was taken aback when saw the fresh lemon that a friend explained I had to squeeze over the Pancake - it really wasn't what I was expecting. There was also syrup and powdered sugar, so I could put add/ subtract that to my taste levels which I appreciated. All in all, the taste didn't blow me away or anything, so reckon it was a solid 3 for me and oh also really filling without feeling over-full. My other two dining companion's also rated their dishes a solid 3 - did the job of providing sustenance, but nothing really spectacular. Cost was €34 for the three of us, so not too bad price-wise but doubt if will return.
