I went here because some friends recommended it. I had the banana pancakes with whipped cream, and the hot chocolate with the Baileys. Pancake sword tasty all by themselves, you didn't really need the syrup, which is great! The hot chocolate with the Baileys was an amazing drink and dessert! It also came with two huge marshmallows! It's also so very cute because the inside of the restaurant it feels like you are in an actual carousel. And the service was great my waitress was amazing! I would definitely go here again.
I really enjoyed the vibe of the location. I went when it wasn't very busy and I got to see the city in motion/people watch through the almost 360 views. The staff were friendly and helpful. I ordered the bacon egg and cheese Pannenkoeken. Sweet and savory! It was delicious. I also got a macchiato which was nice as it was cold out. Not sure when I'll be back in Amsterdam but I will return here to get another pannenkoeken when I do.
As soon as you walk in the door you're having a great experience as you decide on a table inside this former carousel along the canal. The menu offers a lot of options, especially focused on sweet and savory pancakes. Their pancakes are delicious and the Dutch style is between a crepe and a fluffy American style pancake. Since it is relatively thin but fills the entire plate it isn't an overwhelming undertaking to try to eat the whole thing. I enjoyed the savory pancake I had with ham and cheese plus a little sweetness from the pineapple. Topped with their syrup it really is a delightful experience. The little pancakes, or poffertjes, that my wife ordered were fluffy and delicious coin-size bites covered in powdered sugar, also delicious with a touch of syrup. Good selection of coffee drinks to accompany your pancakes or you can order from a variety of beers if you come by in the evening. Service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. Nearby to the Heineken Experience and a canal cruise company.
Delicious Dutch pancakes (poffertjes). I would come for that alone. The ambiance is also a cute diner vibe with a mini carousel inside. I imagine kids would love the vibe. The omelette and savory pancake we got was also solid and paired well with the poffertjes which are sweeter depending what you top them off with. They are not sweet alone. The poffertjes are nice and fluffy. The staff and service was great.
You will visit many pancake places in Amsterdam, but De Carrousel Pannekoeken will be your most memorable. Plus you will be wearing the scent of pancakes and grease with you the rest of the day. I'm no connoisseur of pancakes, so I'd say the versions here are on par with the many other offerings in the city. The bacon is not the American variety of crispy goodness - it's basically thinly sliced ham. The poffertjes - yeah ok you dip these donut holes into grand marnier liqueur. Honestly nothing to recall as spectacular. But you will remember the carrousel. I mean, how cool is it to be sitting inside an old carrousel, next to the horsies, while eating a pancake. Plus it's in the middle of the city, so you get to watch all the people walk by. How cool is that? 3 stars for the food. 5 stars for ambiance and lightning fast service. Averages to 4.
Pancakes for dinner here is a must! We had three people and the pancakes are large so we got two pancakes: ham-cheese-apple and bacon-cheese-mushroom. We added syrup so it was an excellent sweet and savory meal, with a pancake texture that was light and crepe-y. We also got the poffertjes with butter, powdered sugar, and whipped cream. The fluffy texture was perfect and they made a delightful bite-sized dessert
Definitely worth the hype. The poffertjes were a very Dutch and very memorable dish. We went in the late afternoon, after a museum visit, and didn't have any wait. Poffertjes - Grand Marnier & Whipped Cream: These were pure magic! Light fluffy orbs filled with so much flavor from the butter and sugar that you didn't need to add any syrup. They were the perfect texture of slightly crispy on the edges and pillow-y in the middle. The Grand Marnier for dipping was a brilliant option, infusing them with a subtle orange flavor and nice kick. I should totally use Grand Marnier on my pancakes at home! Pancakes - Apple, Cinnamon, Raisins, Butter: A single large thin pancake with apples and raisins baked in. The poffertjes were so delicious that anything else in comparison was held to a very high standard. I was fine with the texture, which was somewhere between a thick American pancake and a thin French crêpe. And I did like the flavor of the apple, cinnamon and raisins with whipped cream. However, I found the apple slices to be a bit too raw/firm. Would have been better if they were that nice stewed texture. Hot Chocolate: Extremely indulgent! Rich and creamy. And you can get even more cream with the whipped cream on the side. Plus the big marshmallows on the side make for a nice texture when they sit in the hot chocolate a bit and get gooey.
I stopped by De Carrousel in Amsterdam for brunch recently. The restaurant has a really cute layout, which I assume is linked to the name. In terms of food, I tried their Carrousel pancake which seemed to have a bit of everything: Assortment of fruits, whipped cream, and vanilla ice cream. The fruits were probably the highlight as they were all really fresh. The pancake was decent. Overall, it was comparable to other places (i.e. De Dutch) so I'd give it 8.3/10
Ordered: Large Cafe Latte (~€5) Carrousel Pancake (~€16) with Nutella (~€2): includes assorted fruit, ice cream, and whipped cream Aya's take: De Carrousel is a charming, rustic breakfast spot that feels like a diner with the amusement park theme with the carrousel inside. There's plenty of seating and once you seat yourself, your waiter will greet you. I decided to go with their signature Carrousel Pancake which had a little bit of everything. The Dutch pancake is much larger yet thinner than American pancakes (or any other pancakes I've had). It's very simple and almost used as a vehicle for the other toppings. I enjoyed most of the fruits provided but the addition of Nutella really elevated the dish for me. I didn't care for the ice cream or whipped cream which felt especially heavy for breakfast. The Cafe Latte was great and paired well with the Pancake. Highly recommend!
My friend and I came by for breakfast before hitting up the Albert Cuyp Markt nearby. We arrived Monday morning around 10:15 am and there were still plenty of tables available. There's a sign to seat yourself, so we snagged a seat in front of the carousel inside. There's both patio and indoor seating. This place definitely caters to larger groups, as the smallest tables we saw were for 4 people. The decor is old school, and there's even a small carousel inside with lots of stringed lights that added to the restaurant's charm. They offer a variety of sweet and savory Dutch pancakes as well as poffertjes (mini pancakes), waffles, and omelets. We were here for the pancakes, so we each customized our own. I got a ham, egg, and mushroom pancake ($13), and my friend got the egg, cheese, mushroom, and onion pancake ($14.50). I've had Dutch pancakes before in other places, but usually they place the toppings on top of the pancake. Here, everything is cooked inside the pancake which makes it feel more integrated together. I really enjoyed my pancake, but I do wish they put a couple more ham slices in. There was plenty of mushroom but not enough ham imo. I tried a bite of my friend's pancake and they put SO much onions and mushrooms in, so I wish they were a bit more generous with the meat. Nevertheless, it was a solid meal and we both left stuffed.

Of all the tourist traps in the city this one is probably the most precious. Our friend who lives in Amsterdam laughed a little bit at us for going here but I think you should add it to your list we knew it was gonna be pretty touristy before we went, but to be honest, the food was absolutely delightful and experience was wonderful from start to finish. The interior is such a delight. You're not allowed to play on the carousel pieces, but you can sit at American style diner booths all around and enjoy the aesthetic. We went around brunch on Monday, so it was definitely not busy The server was so friendly and generally happy to see we were enjoying ourselves We opted for some alcohol coffee. I got Jamison and it was wonderful. Really really good whipped cream, but that might just be Europe. We got the carousel special, but I probably would've gotten something different. I think that the whip cream and fruit was delightful, but I would've wanted to switch some thing out for some Nutella. It also came with ice cream on the side, which really kind of put us over the edge. It was really good soft serve but I kind of felt like I despised myself after eating that thing. Maybe with four people it would've been nice. Or just a Nutella Strawberry with whip cream would've been better. I also didn't really love the pineapple and oranges but the jam was great. We also got a savory ham and cheese. Combining the two was a great idea because just a sweet one would've been too much. Savory actually felt like a pretty good amount. These things are huge, but generally thin.
I came to Amsterdam for a work trip and this place was highly recommended by the locals. Their pancakes are the authentic Dutch version. I ordered a savory mushroom, cheese, and bacon pancake which was nothing short of delicious! The servers were English/tourist-friendly and had a unique carousel-themed interior decoration that gave a fun ambiance. Definitely come here if you are looking for authentic Dutch pancakes!
I came here and it sort of reminds me of a tourist trap but my friend wanted to go here for breakfast. They offer savory and sweet pancakes but in general it's sort of like ok. I tried some ham and cheese baguette and I think there's cheese was much thicker than the ham but I would definitely like more ham. In general this place has the carousel as the main attraction - it sort of reminds me of a cheaper version of Disney. Looks kind of touristy and old school. There's lots of seating and I think the host wasn't really there to seat us but there was a wait to be seated sign. We took a booth by the window. The service was extremely slow and the workers are definitely understaffed here and I don't understand why because there's outside and inside seating and there were only two workers for over 30/40 tables. The Dutch pancakes were the best thing on the menu but I think they just taste like hot cakes with sugar on top- so I didn't find anything super special to ever come back here again. read more

In search of a proper Dutch breakfast, we set our sights on some pannenkoeken (pancakes) and discovered far more than we had hoped for or expected. You see we had the good fortune of befriending Senna who volunteered to serve (in his words) as our "tour guide & waiter." When Senna asked if Dana preferred sweet or savory, she replied (in brilliant fashion), "How about both?" This prompted his face to light up as he told us he had the perfect recommendations. Following his lead we ordered the "Bacon, Apple, and Butter" Pannenkoeken and the "Mixed Fruit and Whipped Cream" Poffertjes. What's amazing to me is that about half way through our meal I noticed that the bottle of syrup on the table hadn't been touched (or even considered). I mean, how could syrup possibly enhance such a wonderful compliment of flavors? No, its inclusion simply wouldn't be tolerated! If you want to blaze your own trail at "De Carrousel" they offer more than 50 options to choose from and I'd recommend sharing a combination of pannenkoeken and poffertjes amongst your party. Be sure to make time to wander around the restaurant a bit. Not only are the center carrousel horses a unique touch, but the kitchen's close proximity to the dining area can make you feel as if you have a role in the preparation of the pannenkoeken and poffertjes! I absolutely love De Carrousel! The sight of the carousel (its namesake) in the middle of the restaurant and powdered sugar sprinkled everywhere gave me such a hit of nostalgia. The ambiance felt lively, and the food was even better. Between options like savory or sweet, Belgian waffles, Dutch pancakes, and Poffertjes (a delicious Dutch specialty), I had a hard time deciding what to order--or even where to start! I ended up going for the Nutella & Strawberry Dutch Pancakes and had no regrets! Note: Good luck trying to snap a photo with the carousel. Kids were constantly climbing all over it, and their parents were oblivious to anyone trying to take a picture with the carousel. read more

Fun spot for some pancakes and breakfast items. This is a diner converted from a carrousel and in a nice part of the city. If you haven't tried poffertjes, they are the small, pillowy, pancake bites. We tried the plain ones and they were buttery and light. Fun treat! We also ordered a cheese and mushroom savory pancake, which based on the waitress' description, I thought it would be more egg-y than bread-y. It was still good, but I was hoping to get more protein in for the day. Good experience, nice and efficient service, and cute area! read more
I tried the poffertjes at this spot as well as The Pancake Bakery and while De Carrousel gives you larger servings/more mini pancakes per plate, the overall quality wasn't quite as good when compared to The Pancake Bakery. Mom and I arrived around noon with the inside being only about half full but it took quite a long time for a server to finally acknowledge that we sat down and provide us with menus and water. The downside to having a sign up that says to seat yourself. The interior is gorgeous, there's no denying that. It's fun and provides a casual, family friendly ambiance. I was eager to dive into my mini pancakes and they were very soft but also slightly denser compared to the mini pancakes from The Pancake Bakery. I'm not sure how to describe it but the texture of the mini pancakes felt bland to me. I get that they need to be made in large batches but between the texture and overall flavor, they didn't hit the same spot as the poffertjes from the other pancake spot I tried. Best analogy I can think of are two burgers being cooked with the same seasoning and using the same toppings but one uses fresh meat, the other frozen, one tastes fresher while the other is more streamlined with less use of fresh ingredients. These pancakes were still good and I ate them all, but if given a choice, I would recommend eating at The Pancake Bakery instead. When I initially ordered 2 plates, my waiter seemed shocked and confused and asked if I was really going to eat that many(not in a joking way, but in a dead serious manner). Since my only other experience with these mini pancakes were from the previous day, I assumed that was the serving size which is why I ordered 2 plates. To my surprise, when the food came out, it seemed liked you got almost twice as many mini pancakes here compared to The Pancake Bakery! I want to assume the waiter didn't mean it with any malice but the fact that she regularly came by to basically monitor how I was doing was really off putting, as well as her asking in her specific manner if I was still eating, as if she wanted to be right in telling me before I ordered that it was too much food for me to eat. Like why do you care? I'm paying for the meal regardless of how much of it I eat. I was full with about 10/15 mini pancakes left but I ate them all just to prove the point that yes, I can eat what I ordered. Decent place but the long wait time be attended too, the subpar friendliness of our waiter, and the mundane poffertjes compared to the other spot I mentioned gives this place 3/5. read more
The carousel gave the place a fun touch, however there's poor ventilation so anticipate on leaving the place smelling like grease and food. With that being said, the staff were very friendly and the pancake (ordered ham & mushroom) was delicious & huge. read more

Traditional pancake house in the middle of one of the bridges. Very traditional. Specialty is the sixth flat pancakes with topping. We stopped by to sit outside and have a few beers and enjoy people watching. read more

This place is soo cool with a carousel in the middle of the restaurant! The food was delicious too. Our waiter was very helpful in their recommendations. This might be the best breakfast I've ever had!! read more
Located directly across the Heineken brewery, the is the perfect spot to load up in carbs and fill your stomach before downing beers at Heineken. We got the Dutch pancakes and another flat pancake with cheese and bacon. Solid pancakes here. read more

Amazing Dutch pancake! I got it with bananas, strawberries and Nutella! It was big enough to share so if you're not super hungry, you can definitely share it! We also tried the coffee; which was nice and Stein. If you want a lighter coffee, you can opt and get the americano!. The place itself is standing on its own and looks like a carousel! You can sit inside the carousel and take pictures like we did! ; ) read more
This place is across the canal from the Heineken Experience. The restaurant is shaped like a merry-go-round and specializes in European pancakes otherwise known as crepes. They do have a menu item called Poffertjes which are small and fluffy. They do not have a Dutch Baby on the menu. I ordered a crepe with cherries and whipped cream. I also ordered bacon and scrambled eggs also. The bacon was the best that I have had in Europe so far. The crepe was very good also. The service was friendly and I was pleased with my meal. Fun atmosphere. Loved the fresh fruit and different toppings available. My family also got an omelet which they enjoyed. My only complaint was that the poffertjes were a little mushy/chewy in the inside, I personally wish they were cooked more but they were still yummy. read more

I'd heard of de Carrousel Pannenkoeken because of it's carousel feature, but didn't plan on dining here. It wasn't until my husband and I were in the area, noticed it was open, and discovered that the other breakfast spot we wanted to dine at was closed that we ended up going here. Needless to say, it was a pleasant surprise. It was not too terribly busy when we walked in and we seated ourselves on the lower level away from the carousel and the door since it was cold out. I was in an egg-mood so I ordered a bacon and cheese omelette with onions added and my husband got the bacon and apple pancake. We also got two coffees. The one waitress that was covering the service was very attentive, even for American standards, which was a pleasant surprise after our recent misadventures with waitstaff at other Dutch restaurants. Our food came out within an appropriate amount of time and we were anticipating the size of the pancake but not of the omelette. It was massive and jam packed with salty bacon, lots of onions, and cheese. A delicious blend that was too much for me to finish in its entirety. I HIGHLY recommend the Dutch pancake here. At the suggestion of Reddit, I tried the bacon and cheese pancake (something I'd never think to order) and used their strawberry syrup with it. You really have to try it to know how fantastic it truly is. The service was pretty slow and it took a long time to get my order in, so keep that in mind. I also ordered some fruit on the side that seemed to be canned. However, the servers were nice and the Dutch pancake out of this world. They also made a nice latte. Recommended (but only for the pancake haha). read more

Had a great meal after leaving the Heineken Experience. Our waiter was the best, sorry I forgot your name! Basically ordered everything for us and got it just right. The fits was great and the carousel was a nice feature inside. read more

Dutch pancakes! I had an apple and bacon pancake that was amazing. The sweetness of the apples balanced perfectly with the bacon. I paired it with a good old fashion Americano. The atmosphere of this restaurant is awesome. There is a carousel in the middle, there is outdoor seating, and great for a relaxing brunch. The staff was great, attentive, and gave great suggestions on menu items. It is within walking distance to many main attractions in the area including the Heineken experience. I would definitely return the next time I'm in Amsterdam. read more
I came here for dessert, and I ordered the pofferjtes with nutella, strawberries, and whipped cream. I had to wait almost ten or fifteen minutes for my food, which was a long time. The pofferjtes came with a ton of powdered sugar and a slab of butter on top, both of which I forgot to say I didn't want. The pofferjtes were tasty, chewy, and hot. There was a decent amount of fresh strawberries, Nutella, and whipped cream, and I really enjoyed eating it. Service was severely lacking, and after asking for the check, it didn't come. I went up to the counter to pay, and for 11.50 euros, it was quite pricey but there was a decent amount of pofferjtes. Come here only if you have a long time to spend because service is super slow and it's difficult to flag down any waiters. read more
