With 6 locations Money Man is the powerhouse of pawn shops in Charleston. Each store seems to have individual strengths as to inventory for sale. Mt. Pleasant is golf, kyacks and bicycles. Folly Beach is surfboards. Summerville (Dorchester Rd) seems to be fishing, downtown is jewelry and the others seem to be a balanced mix. Savannah Hwy specialty is guns and they have a gun guru on staff that is a wealth of information. Mike will point (no pun intended) the new gun owner in the direction of what suits them. With so many options available it is like walking through a wine store having no point of reference about wines. Well another pawn review. Yep this is one of the oldest money mans around. right over by Hardees west Ashley off Savannah hwy. What I did like about this one is it is convenient to get to. go to the light and turn left! Also easy to get out of. has a nice size parking lot. The downside of this one is it is packed with stuff, sure its a pawn shop but stuff should be easy to get to. I also didn't get good service there, maybe it was because it was so busy but if i'm standing right in front of an employee and they don't respond to me after I say "excuse me" then I have a problem! That being said i didn't thing the stuff they had here was as good as the james Island money man. Ill stick closer to home for my shopping needs. read more

Offered the ignorant lady 6 High-Quality computer monitors and she turned them down because "these are not the correct cables". As someone who has worked in the electronics field for many years, each power cable I showed her were all 100% identical, all running a solid 12v on each. The VGA's as well were in pristine quality. After she continued to ignore the facts she decided to change her reasoning and state "it's because they are not all the same color". This place is total bullshit, so if you don't want to deal with pretend-to-be-know-it-all assholes, I suggest you go somewhere where your your business will be appreciated by the managers. read more

Had some scrap gold to sell. Off the bat asked "so what do you want for it?" Told them I can't say yet as I need a weight for it all and prices for current spot for scrap gold. Was then told "it doesn't work that way". LOL. Yeah, of course it doesn't! Right? So two of the employees looked over the gold and was told they didn't take half of it because it was 9k and they only take 10k and above. Final piece I had was a 22" 14k solid gold chain with solid 14k gold pendant on it. Told it was fake! LMAO. Said they did an 'acid test' twice on it. I said thank you and left to a local coin shop further down the road. Coin shop had precious metals X-ray machine. All gold was real and they gave me $835 cash for approximately 1.23 ounces of scrap 9k and 14k gold. Maybe this pawn shop is good for guitars, shotguns, stereos and lawnmowers, but stay away from buying or selling jewelry. That's for dang sure! LOL. read more

I took some watches in to sell. I deliberately left the paperwork and original boxes in the car to see if they would be able to verify them as real themselves without those things. Who I presume to be the manager looked at them for a total of 4 seconds and said they were all fake. I didn't question it, I left and decided to take them to a jeweler to make sure I was correct and I was. They seem pretty arrogant and I wouldn't take my things here to sell, try to use a selling app for the community before you sell to people who will not really take a look at your things. read more

Horrible experience! Don't ever ever shop here. I purchased a Bissell pro spot cleaner about three weeks ago for $45. Upon returning home and trying to use it, it will not spray the cleaning solution, so the unit doesn't work. The sales man promised it did work, was fully functional, and never offered me to test it or to purchase a "peace of mind guarantee." When I called about the problem and spoke with the manager, Haley, she said that without a peace of mind guarantee, which I didn't even know existed, I would not be able to return the defective item. I'm out $45. And she she could care less. Even though I told her her sales person never offered it, she said well all my people offer it. Clearly not since I did not know about any such thing. Crooks! I paid $160 to put an item on lay away. Was told I have three months to pay it off. Went in today(2 months later) to pay it off and it turns out that they sold it last month. What they don't tell you is you have to call every thirty days to tell them you're still interested in the item or they'll sell it behind your back without a word. Just a bunch of thieves read more

The prices here are a bit too high. You must get a deal here by "haggle and staredown." Don't pay what they list the price is unless you wanna get ripped off. They have a decent selection but I am puzzled a bit as to why they would sell merchandise labeled "broken." That stretches the limit even for a greedy pawn shark....er I mean store. Now that the niceties are over, let me say that the staff is DREADFUL. I bought two amps and got decent prices (after haggling), but the clerk tried to get me to take out a layaway so he could win a contest. After politely declining the offer, he proceeded to act like a spoiled child denied ice cream. He was rude the rest of the time, and constantly making it known how shitty I am for not helping him. I was shocked. I thought he might actually cry - thank Science he didn't. You got two stars because of the "Worst Clerk in Charleston" winner you have hocking your crap. I used to buy and sell stuff in here all the time, I had guys in there that worked there for years that were awesome and I would always deal with the same guys, but they have recently been bought out, and ran all of the people off that worked there for years. They have have since hired young pricks that have a chip on their shoulder and think that everyone that walks through the door is a crackhead trying to sell stollen stuff. I have never stollen anything in my life. Their customer service has gone to shit. I will never spend another penny in this location... The other locations will have a chance, but I can imagine that they will be the same way... read more

I went to money man to cross exchange some items on Saturday 10/5/19 so I could get some of my items out and the sales person who was looking at my item didn't tell me I needed a payment before I left the store they called me saying I owed a payment that next day she was on the computer looking at it and I item indeed a payment on Sunday and they forfeited my saw made me buy it back at a higher rate the sale lady should have told me that day Saturday that I need a payment. The manager didn't have the courtesy of understanding that it was the sales person fault very rude I have a 88 percent score and I was treated unfairly .so everyone makes mistakes but they didn't want to correct the situation but once I get my items out of their I'll definitely have no more dealing s with that store . My husband and I were in a serious auto accident that took over two years to resolve with the insurance company, (I choose to work with them without an attorney) and when all was said and done, did not get the big payoff as most people do. With that being said, we decided to buy ourselves something that would last as a reminder of the whole ordeal. For me, we choose to buy a ring. I went to Money Man Pawn in Mt. Pleasant, informed the sales clerk of my situation in so many words who then showed me the most beautiful cushioned cut diamond ring I had ever seen, that also had an appraisal brought in with it by the seller, and offered it to me for a really good deal. I hesitated at first, (this would take the last of the money I had from the insurance, I was also concerned if the ring was really as nice as the appraisal) so I told him I would be back and if it was still there in two weeks I may just buy it. I did go back, the ring was still in the case, and to me this was a sign that the ring was meant to be mine. I bought the ring. Well...I made the right choice. I guess maybe two weeks later it dawned on me as I was driving by Skatells to have the ring checked out and was absolutely floored by what they informed me about the ring. They the ring was worth way more than the appraisal! (I just had a verbal review and not an actual paper appraisel). With saying all of this, you need to know they are very trust worthy with selling their jewelry! Prior to this I had purchase jewelry from different Money Man Pawn shops, that I knew in my heart were very good deals. They make sure your ring is cleaned and polished before you leave, to make it look as close to new as it can possibly be. Note, this is a Pawn shop so don't expect it to be like going in a store where all items are new. But I have found the sales persons to be some of the nicest, personable people to ever grace this type of store! For all my future gold jewelry purchases I plan to shop the Money Man Pawn shops! read more

This people suck. I buy a pistol on friday oct 27 take it to the shooting range on sunday oct 29 start shotting the gun and every 3 bullet the pistol jam. After couple time we take apart and clean it up and the still jamming every 3 bullet. I take it to the money man pawn shop and they the want to help me with the problem. This it why i say they suck. Although I would say some of these other reviews are somewhat accurate I will say that that is also very typical of the pond industry and as a whole money man with all of its locations and all of that is pretty decent and standard as far as pawnshops ago and I would even venture to say that I would do 3 1/2 stars if possible but certainly the customer service could be better and it is true that you have to haggle to get a good price but that is what the pawnshop expects you to do so that's why the sticker prices are kind of high and personally I think that's also kind of the fun of the whole pawnshop thing so it is what it is but I would say that these guys run a solid business and yes it's a pawnshop you have to haggle but that's what it is and other than that they do have a pretty good selection and they also have a good selection of big items like trailers and kayak and stuff like that so that's pretty cool read more

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! I dont know why they dont ever keep managers around long, but wow you can get some great deals here. Plus they have a point system that works well. I pawn something and pay it off then I build points, so when I go to sell something they give me top dollar because of my 100% rating. My only recommendation is to keep more items im stock. When a Holliday passes, you guys are always out and then I have to settle with ebay. With the point system you should include purchases, so after so many purchases are made a percentage can be taken off of a total non discounted item. read more
