Good for nothing this place. Called ahead of time to inquire about cashing a check, they said they could do it. Went in the first time, they say they can't cash it because they can't verify the check. Understandably the bank is in another country and had already closed. They say come back earlier, next day I come when they open. They don't even call the bank for verification, they just say no they aren't gonna cash it. Avoid Pearl City Money Mart at all costs. The customer service is terrible--staff are rude, dismissive, and act like helping you is a burden. The shop itself is dirty and poorly maintained, which is unacceptable for a place handling money. On top of that, the wait times are ridiculous with zero sense of urgency or organization. HOW RUDE & OBNOXIOUS!! Sadly my husband see them to make small loans. Ever since they moved from Pearl Kai, nothing but ATTITUDE!!! Let me explain... So, last week sometime I finally got my checks (4 of them) and instead of going to the bank, I decided to go to money mart or cash them (Personal Reasons). And so I did! Service was great and awesome! I didn't really bother to look at the date I went in. The lady was friendly & nice. No problems. Told her I may be coming back in with more because they pay us they thru mail & sometimes they'll do it all at once. Especially if we worked several times in the week. She said OK. So, on Friday December 16, 2022 I came in to cash 4 MORE checks. But another girl who helped me, said because I'm new, the previous checks I cashed didn't clear yet. So until it clears, I can't cash my checks. It usually takes 7 business days, but says to call on Monday because it could clear sooner. If not, by Tuesday it'll clear. So I said OK. That was fine. Today's Monday, December 19, 2022 & JUST got off the phone with SHANTELL, the store manager & let me tell you SHES RUDE, OBNOXIOUS & SAD TO SAY... DEAF!! (YOU FOLKS KNOW ME. I NEVER GIVE A BAD REVIEW REGARDLESS IF SERVICE WAS BAD. I ALWAYS take into account of the person attitude & kindness into play. So for me to say those words about this particular woman... SHE MUST'VE PISSED ME OFF, RIGHT?! YES SHE DID!) Here's why... so I call them today around 12pm and a lady answers "Pearl city money mart". No Good Afternoon, Thank you for calling... NOTHING! She just sounded irratable... "Pearl City Money Mart". Anywho, I said "hi I'm calling because I came in on Friday and the lady told me my checks didn't clear. I explained everything that was said on Friday. Then asked, "Can you help me check to see if my checks cleared today?" Total silence, but I can her scuffling. Assuming she's trying to get situated I waited. After a good moment (30 seconds) she finally says, "can I get your number!" (OH! She heard me. OK. So I give her my number.) Then she says "how much is your check you have to cash?" So I tell her... "I have 4 separate checks that equals to under $400. She says.. "no. The checks you have to cash, how much is it for?!" So I say... "under $400 dollars." She says... "I know you had to cash 4 checks for under $400 but HOW MUCH DO HAVE TO CASH NOW, THIS MOMENT, TODAY!!" (Now she's literally being cynical and raising her tone as if IM DEAF!) So I tell her... "Yes. The checks I have is A TOTAL OF 4 CHECKS UNDER $400!" NOW she scolds me and says... "I KNOW! It's SHOWING YOU CASHED 4 CHECKS! I'm asking you..." (So by this time, I'm irritable. OBVIOUSLY SHES NOT LISTENING.) and so cut her off and cynically say... "you don't listen, do you?! You're not listening." So she gets mad and starts getting cocky... "WELL LIKE I SAID, you already came in to cash 4 checks & I want to know how much checks you have now! Is that so hard to understand?!" So I tell her... "yes. I KNOW I CAME IN LAST WEEK TO CASH 4 CHECKS! I'm the one who did it!" She interrupts me and says "YES. THATS WHAT IM SAYING. SO HOW MUCH... so I cut her off AGAIN... and say... "but do YOU UNDERSTAND... I'm SAYING I have 4 MORE CHECKS TO CASH!" (Silent & dumbfounded for a second. REALIZING HOW STUPID SHE WAS BEING) She plays it off saying... "YEAH... SO it's 7 days from the day you cashed those checks." So i calmly asked... "ok so I'm not sure when that was..." she interrupts me AGAIN... and rudely tells me... "we'll, if you count 7 days from the 12th, not including the weekend, that's when you can come back." So now I'm irritated and I ask her... "So can you just tell me if the checks DID clear today?" She says... "how's about this, 7 days from the 12th not including Saturday & Sunday, that's the 21st. How's about you back then?!" (RUDE! That's not what I'm asking now. I asked if it cleared) So I say... "Really?! You going be like that?!" (So now I'm annoyed BUT... I held my composure) and said... "So it cleared, but you going make me wait" She said "oh no, cause that's 7 days..." I cut her off and said, "WHATS your name?!" She said... "my name is SHANTELL AND IM THE STORE MANAGER!" So I tell her... "ok thank you cause I going report your business." She says: "YEAH GO RIGHT AHEAD!" And so I hung up. I think she was saying something but I didn't care to listen cause I didn't want to argue. I just wanted to know if my checks cleared TODAY and if could come in to cash the other 4. THAT'S ALL! I have no time for petty arguments. So... WHOEVER GOES THERE BEWARE OF SHANTELL THE STORE MANAGER BECAUSE SHE JUMPS THE GUN BEOFRE LISTENING. OK?! OK. A simple "I'm sorry" would've sufficed. I always come here when I really needed extra cash fast. Just gotta pay it back when it's payday . Other than that, just try it out.

I wouldn't recommend this place. They told me that they can cash any check when I called before going there. I went there, spent at least 30 minutes there and wasn't denied into cashing the check after they got approval from the person who gave the check. A few days later, the amount got deducted from the account and I didn't get anything from it. I called and they didn't even ask for my information. Waste of my time and rude! Not to mention that the lady that was helping me was on her phone when I was there. She was on a personal call from her phone because she was talking in Filipino! So unprofessional! read more

Like many people would say, this is the last place to go to if all other institutions don't approve a small loan request. The maximum amount they can loan you is $500 and depending on your pay dates for the month, thats when the repayment is due. Its almost a $100 to loan $500 so the interest is ridiculous but then again, thats what these pay day loan shops are for. I appreciate their services especially when a family is in dire need of financial help. I would say thats why they are very strict and careful with their verification procedures and all the questions they ask. If they werent, I think a lot of people would abuse their services. I recommend their services if you have exhausted all other options in which you could get help from. The one thing I would not recommend for people to do at any pay day loan store is to get a money order from them. At Walmart, Western Union, 7-Eleven, the cost of a money order is $1.00. At a Pay Day Store? It is 8% of the amount your money order is. It is not worth it. read more

My family and I were traveling in 3 days and needed to get our money converted to Australian dollars. I was told that Hawaii State would be able to accommodate us with this request. But when we were ready to go get our cash converted, we were told it would take 3 business days. WTH we were traveling in 3 days. No one informed us of that when we first went in to inquire about money exchange. Fail! The credit union then suggested we could go to Waikiki "somewhere" to get our cash exchanged. They didn't quite know the name of the business. They also recommended a bank like First Hawaiian and Bank of Hawaii. They didn't have any Australian dollars either. So instead of having to go to Waikiki "somewhere" we google "money exchange". Money Mart came up and we called them. They said they had some Australian dollars on hand. Since it was located in Pearl Kai shopping center in Aiea, it was convenient for us to go check it out. When we got there around 1pm, it wasn't too busy. The employee was friendly and helpful. She told us how much Australian dollars they had on hand, which was $1200. We exchanged about $800 US dollars for the $1200 AU. They charged a small fee compared to other institutions. Hawaii State charges $5 for every so many hundreds. I would say this is your best bet to get your foreign currency ASAP. It's much more convenient because there are tons of parking, unlike Waikiki "somewhere". The staff was also friendly and helpful! read more
