Pacific Rim Fire Caesar - Stoli Vodka, Mott's Clamato Juice, sriracha, fish sauce, a spiced bean, & an olive
    Amanda B.

I came here for the first time with a group of about 8-9 people for a friend's going away dinner. I was warned ahead of time that it was a pay by weight kind of restaurant. We ordered drinks while we waited for everyone to arrive. I got the Pacific Rim Fire Caesar, which had Stoli Vodka, Mott's Clamato Juice, sriracha, fish sauce, a spiced bean, & an olive. I thought it was an interesting mix of ingredients and it would have been great, but it tasted a little watered down and wasn't really that spicy. It was good, but it felt like something was missing. Once everyone was there, we all headed up to the self-serve stations and got in lines to put our noodles, meats, seafood, veggies, toppings, and sauces in one big bowl. Make sure you get everything you need before you go up to get your order weighed, paid, and your bowl handed to the chef's. It didn't take much to fill up that bowl, so I ended up paying more than I planned for. We were each given receipts/numbers and our orders were brought to our table once they were ready. Our server came around to ask if we wanted sesame seeds on our noodles, much like when other restaurants ask you if you want Parmesan on your pasta. It was really good and filling, but I found it to be pretty expensive if you have a big appetite. I wanted something sweet to end with but I couldn't have eaten a whole dessert to myself, so I split the caramel brownie cheesecake with a friend. It was chocolate and vanilla flavored with a walnut brownie base, topped with a mix of dark chocolate ganache and brownie chunks, and whipped cream on the side. It was very good but very sweet, and I actually craved a big glass of milk to eat it with. Overall, it was all quite good, but nothing to rave about. The drinks and dessert were definitely affordable at $7 and $6, respectively. It's a nice change from having to order your meal off of a menu, but if you're really hungry, be prepared to pay for it!

Fat Bastard Burrito is a chain from Toronto. Of all the fast food Tex-Mex chains (Chipotle, Mucho Burrito, BarBurrito, Quesada, etc.) I like Fat Bastard the most. They have the greatest variety of toppings and they have more unusual toppings like noodles, lol. They also don't charge you extra for guacamole, and most places only allow you pinto OR black beans, but here you can get both :) Their burritos are consistently tasty and always well wrapped and grilled. They have a Wednesday special where you can get a small taco for $6.99. They also have Cinco de Mayo specials , I think it was $5 or $6 for a small taco. And I discovered that April 4 is National Burrito Day and they had a small taco and a canned drink for $5.99. I especially loved that they had Bubly and it qualified as a canned drink (some restaurants charge you more for flavoured carbonated water). Bubly is my least favourite brand of flavoured carbonated water, but I prefer it over soda pop (regular or diet). This location is small with only 3 tables for eating in (2 tables for 2 and one table for 4). It's in the Hampton Park Plaza. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (57)

My…read morefriends and I visited from Toronto and were a little put off by the prices of the tacos but we were recommended this spot by so many locals, so we had to try it out. It did not disappoint. I had the tuna tartare, crispy fish, and grilled chicken taco. Surprisingly, the tuna tartare (the most expensive one) was my least favourite; something about it tasted too earthy and I couldn't taste the tuna that much as the other flavours were overpowering. The crispy fish is a must-try, and the grilled chicken is a pleasant surprise - you don't expect it to blow you away, but somehow it does. I also had a bite of the steak taco which was delicious.

On a Sunday night, it was not super busy but there were enough people that it didn't feel empty inside. A bit pricy but we also got drinks, and most trendy Mexican restaurants are like this these days. To start, I shared guac & chips - no complaints, we enjoyed and it was very fresh. The added tomatoes were nice. I ordered 3 tacos - the beef barbacoa was fine but the portion of dipping jus was tiny for 3 beef tacos. The best taco for me was the tuna tartare crispy taco. Loved the flavours and the fish was just delicious! My friends had the chicken tacos and said they were spicy but they liked them a lot. However, I did not enjoy the ox tongue taco and didn't finish it. I ordered it because all the reviews about it were so positive, but I didn't like how they just put two huge pieces of meat in a taco. It tasted very gamey and I didn't like the spongy texture either. The piña colada cocktail was yummy - I could taste fresh pineapple and it was very creamy.
