Unfortunately, I have spent many hours in a dental chair, but Dr. Barrera is the best one yet! The office is beyond sterile, but at the same time, welcoming. Dr. Barrera's dental office is full-service general dentistry. Dr. Barrera is a physician that pays particular attention to patient's overall health and well being. After a car accident in 1990, I had pain in my jaw that would present with horrific headaches, grinding and clenching. For more than two decades, I had seen several specialists, maxillo-facial surgeons, TMJ ,neck and back physical therapists, acupuncturist, chiropractors, and was prescribed oral appliances, drugs and pain relievers. No one looked for what was causing my pain. I had facial spasms, pain through my head, neck and back and would wake feeling as though I had been run over and in a tremendous deal of pain. Just a few years ago, my clenching caused one of my molars to crack and I needed my first (and thank goodness only) root canal. Dr. Barrera was intrigued by my case, performed a second opinion and quickly saw some of my problems. I had high fillings and an improper bite otherwise known as Occlusal Disease. She adjusted my oral appliance (orthotic) and more than two decades of near agony quickly diminished in less than one month! If you've only gotten temporary relief from TMJ pain, consider seeking Dr. Barrera's care, she could just find your ANSWER just like she did me. I had originally gone to a different dentist for my dental work, but decided to go to Dr. Barrera to have my crown replaced. From this point forward, I will never go to another dentist than Dr. Barrera. She is - hands down - the best dentist I have ever seen and is as painless as they come (and this is coming from someone who has hated going to the dentist since I was a teenager). From the very beginning, Dr. Barrera was incredibly thorough and made it her top priority to give me the best tooth and smile possible. Not only that - but she also makes you feel very comfortable and is proactive in letting the patient know exactly what's going on each step of the way. You won't be sitting there scared that something is about to be painful. Also, Dr. Barrera goes above and beyond to not only examine and fix your teeth, but to educate you as to what you need to do better and why it's important for your overall health. As for my crown, she went to great lengths to ensure that I was getting the most beautiful tooth possible. Her work went way above and beyond any experience I've ever had with a dentist before. She is more than a dentist, she is a true artist. The crown that she crafted for me looks incredible and far surpassed all of my expectations. For the first time that I can remember, people now look at my teeth and are unable to determine which is real and which is a crown. Moreover, even the temporary crowns that she made for me while I was waiting for the permanent crown to arrive from the lab looked amazing (my friends and family were shocked when I told them that the tooth they were looking at was only a temporary!). No dental hygienist, no office manager, Dr. Barrera focused all her attention on me. I needed to have my tooth pulled. My previous dentist tried once, twice and then threw his hands up in the air and said he would refer me to an oral surgeon. Dr. Barrera carefully showed me what was happening in my mouth using the xrays I brought and mirrors so I could see what was going on in my mouth. She stayed with the tooth and completed the job. The next day and the day following that, Dr. Barrera called to follow up and find out how I was feeling. My previous dentists have some unsavory office managers, which stressed me out all the further going to a dentist. Having Dr. Barrera's full attention really soothed my nerves about going to the dentist. How annoying is it to go to a dentist only to spend the bulk of the visit with the hygienist and spend just a few minutes with dentist while my mouth is filled to the brink with gauze, or dental tray. Any stereotypes of your typical dentist experience are quickly forgotten after your appointment with Dr. Barrera. She is an incredibly personable, knowledgeable, and experienced dentist who is always making sure that you are comfortable and getting the right treatment for you. As someone who always likes to know the details, she is always more than happy to answer any questions I have. I have been going to Dr. Barrera for over 10 years now, even during the few years when I moved Maryland and Connecticut.
