The lighting and sound are good, the stadium seats are cushiony and wide enough for the brawny and there are bathrooms on both the upper and lower levels. There are even vending machines selling snacks and sodas and drinks, though I think they are more for the students at Pace than for patrons of the arts center! Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company was on the day before Snowstorm Jonas hit, so dance company and audience lucked out. For those who aren't familiar with Paul Taylor, he created the Paul Taylor 2 Dance Company to bring dance to a wider audience by having the 6 member company perform in smaller venues with smaller budgets. The Paul Taylor ensemble, not as edgy as some of the troupes I am fond of, gave a lovely performance with three sets. The first, Cascade, had such beautiful Tyrolean style costumes and seemed more ballet than modern dance. The second, Runes, was slow and haunting. Company B, was a quick change of pace, being the most fun in music and the liveliest, with the theme ranging from sailors about town and in port and WWII sentiments. It was an entertaining way to spend an evening. Tickets for most performances are in the $29-$39 range, much more affordable than Broadway, though you can also check around to see if discounts are being offered. Ushers here were sweet, and welcoming and seemed young, as if they were students. *If you are a fan of Grease, there is a Grease Sing Along and the audience is encouraged to come in costume. UYE anyone?

We finally got back into the hall for a NY Philharmonic concert last week (reviewed separately),…read moreand we came away very pleased. The sound was good, both warm and reverberant, at least in our seats (middle of the orchestra, about 11 rows back from the stage). We marveled at the clarity of the acoustic, and in general the setting with some seating now behind and above the orchestra. The seats are comfortable with a decent amount of leg space unless you're rich over six feet. During intermission we were able to get into one of the patron lounges, which was small but pleasantly arranged with drinks and sweets and some seating spaces. And we stepped out on the balcony overlooking Lincoln Center which, in spite of construction, was a treat (see the photos). All in all, ours was a delightful visit, and we anticipate quite a few more in the 2026-27 philharmonic season.

We attended the 13th annual parade and festivals (2019) held in New York City. It starts around 21st street and goes down Broadway, then University Place, turning onto East 8th street which becomes Saint Marks Place. It ends in the Dance Fest after party at Tompkins Square Park. The parade includes some 10,000 dancers from over 150 organizations with 100 unique styles of dance. Groups come from New York but also New Jersey and Connecticut to promote their dance schools, clubs, performing arts programs, and national origins. We had staked out a good viewing spot on 8th street just after the parade would turn from University place. Luckily we were in the shade. We stood for over 4 hours as the different groups passed by. Many had banners featuring the name of their groups and had amps with their music to accompany their dances. A few were on trucks or parade floats. Most were walking and dancing the entire route. Amazing how they did both in heavy colorful costumes and very high heels, too. All sorts of dance were here -- from ballet to belly dancing; hip hop to traditional Chinese fan dances; Latin fusion to ballroom. Can you think of it? It was represented. Then there were some of the weird and wild with drag queens and campy dances. Exercise like dancers too -- from aerobics to jazz. And also there was a mix of ages -- from tiny kid dancers to elderly Asian umbrella dancers. All sorts of folk and ethnic dancers. A lot of Bolivian dancers with blaringly loud "hurt your ear drums" music. Contrasted with drum corps -- the all female group was great. If you're in town when this occurs, plan for disruptions in traffic and closed streets. And if you can't go (or stand) for the entire parade, at least carve out an hour to see this unique New York experience.

The seats in the theatre are nice & comfy, I feel that anywhere you sit in the theater you will be able to see any show.
