The Colts Neck Community Band is now in it's eleventh season and is one of the best community bands in the state. At least it's the best band *I've* ever played with. We are about 100 professional and amateur musicians and perform at our "home", Colts Neck High School, in the Spring and Fall plus additional venues around the county. Selections range from classical pieces to marches and show tunes. Our concerts are free, but we do accept donations which fund a scholarship for our members who are high school seniors going on to major in music. Now that I'm getting better at posting events, I'll be sure to add our upcoming concert dates on Yelp as they approach. Please come join us - it's money well (un)spent!

I went to see my friend in the F Theory last night and was deeply impressed with everything about this beautiful and quite plush theater. As a reviewer mostly of off-off Broadway in New York, this theater struck me as wildly luxurious. It's more off-Broadway-like than off-off. The New Jersey Rep is celebrating 30 years in business but 20 years free and clear in the current location on, wait for it, Broadway (street or avenue). Long Branch is an old New Jersey town, relatively desolate except for a half-dozen taquerias, a dollar store, and various small businesses (like Boost Mobile). The theater has a giant parking lot behind the theater, where you enter. It story is worth looking up on the website. The theater produces ONLY new works. As such it's unique and important. I agree with Ames A: "Producing new works for the American theater is vital." This October there will be a festival of 28 or so plays to celebrate the purchase of a 30,000 square foot facility they hope to make into a theater arts center, complete with rooftop bar, two theaters, and I think classes. If you're in Essex, Monmouth, or Ocean County, become a subscriber and support American theater. And go see Megan Loughran and Alex Trow in the F Theory.

Went to see the World renowned pianist Richard Goode perform in Zankel Hall. The performance was…read more"Richard Goode and Friends" who included Sarah Schaffer, soprano, Itamar Zorman, Violin, Kyle Armbrust, Viola and Brook Speltz, Cello. They performed mesmerizing music from Brahms and Schumann. Each performer was magnificent!!! The audience gave them a well deserved standing ovation. What a way to spend a Sunday afternoon! Zankel Hall is a very modern intimate venue in the Carnegie Hall complex. The acoustics were excellent. The auditorium seats were comfortable. Of course, I sat in the first row so I had a lot of legroom. LOL. The only issue I have of course is women's restrooms. There are never enough.

Downtown Art is a theater company for young artists. The company develops new musical adaptations…read moreof movies and classic novels, from Some Like it Hot and The Thin Man, to an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice called (and set in) "Clemson County, SC." I recently saw a bluegrass musical adaptation of Little Women there. Founder/director Ryan Gilliam is dedicated to helping her young collaborators " make performances of meaning, depth, skill, and artistry." This is certainly true of the work I've seen there. The cast and crew of mostly teenagers (12 to 18) displayed not only talent, but a great deal of dedication to their work and commitment to their choices. This was challenging work -- and a bit long for my taste (close to three hours). But it was never boring, due primarily to the energy of the cast, and the obvious respect with which Gilliam treats her artists. Downtown Art's work is rough around the edges. But it's a nice change from the standard fare. And it's a great reminder of how compelling "poor theater" (in terms of money, not quality) can be.

She loves her teachers, who are very kind and supportive. in just a few months, she learned three dances, which she performed flawlessly for her age group recital. Her dance class has built a lot of confidence that shows even in her academic school work. She performed better in her drama class. The teachers in her local school even asked me what was different in her routine. I highly recommend this dance studio. My biggest complain about this school is parking is a real pain in the rear.

My son goes here and I really like the school and the prices are reasonable. If you're a small business owner you need to be professional and start on time like everyone else who works. We should be charged less if you're shortening the class by 10-15 minutes every week because the owner is consistently late.

The teachers are incredible and I felt welcomed there the first time I dropped by! Note that I would only recommend taking the Technique Training classes as drop-in classes only, as most of the other classes are tailored towards teaching and performing a choreographed dance by the end of the semester. Most students in the choreographed dance classes typically register for the full semester, rather than paying by drop-ins. In terms of the students, most are nice Chinese mamas though some are younger. Dance levels among students vary, and the teachers are well suited to teach any level given their experience and technique.
