Also, check the Nassau Pops web site for their other performances throughout the year, especially their outdoor summer concert series. If you don't have your ticket yet you go to the next table to get it. Then they let you sit basically anywhere that is crossed out by tape. The show is about 60-90 minutes long. There's no intermission but if you need to go to bathroom you can go out the back side door to your left facing stage. It's not a far walk from the subway. It's about 1block, around the corner. Very close to union square. Tickets are about 17.00 dollars for one show, $52 for 6 shows. Definitely would go again.

(They even thew in a deep cut encore song). The concert was held inside the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, which has great acoustics. The stage accommodated the 145 musicians. I thought the seats were pretty comfortable. Everyone working there - from the box office, ticket collectors, and ushers - was friendly and professional.

Some of my favorite theater experiences have been from their Encores series, including their gala productions where brilliant casts come together with about 1-2 weeks of rehearsal to perform Broadway concert style productions, complete with a full orchestra, staging, choreography and costumes. The shorter engagements allow actors to appear in shows that might fit in between other long term contracts, with tv, film, or concerts. Some Encores I've seen: La Cage aux Folles, Urinetown, Light in the Piazza, Oliver!, Into the Woods, Parade, Sunday in the Park, Evita, Brigadoon, Merrily We Roll Along, etc. Productions like Chicago, Into the Woods, Sunday in the Park, Parade, Once Upon a Mattress and Ragtime have had successful Broadway transfers from City Center. Their mission: To be an accessible and inclusive center for the arts, reflecting the energy of New York City. Encores was designed to preserve the legacy of American musical theater. Note that acoustics can be tricky depending on where you sit.

It's an elegant setting with great energy and a strong legacy in the arts. Unfortunately, the particular production I saw -- High Spirits -- was a real disappointment. I was surprised to see performers reading from scripts during the show. If that's the format, that's fine -- but then the ticket prices should reflect that. It's hard to justify paying Broadway-level prices for what felt like a staged reading rather than a fully polished production. I left feeling let down, especially given the venue's reputation and the cost of admission. While I still appreciate City Center as a space and its history, this experience made me hesitant about rushing back anytime soon. So so disappointed.

They don't really have a concession stand with drinks - just some bottles of water and some little chocolate snacks such as M&Ms (thought this would be helpful for those that get excited about concession stands). The venue is smaller. I sat in the center, second row and was definitely worth it to purchase these tickets but if you purchase other seats towards the back, I don't think you could get a terrible seat here. The stage is smaller and you would be able to see well. I read some of the other reviews on Yelp and I could see what they were writing. My experience was great. I was a little disappointed because I really thought I would see some more professional swing dancing (my partner was very disappointed about this). Needless to say, the performers had beautiful voices, story line was well done, and set looked really nice. The live music was an added bonus. I think I went to the opening night or SWING and defintelynsome time to purrrrrrfect some of the scenes but all in all, it can only get better! I enjoyed it!! The play was three hours with a 10 minute intermission between.

However, there was no warning before the show and no signs informing patrons. Most of the audience was families with little kids and it is definitely not a show for little kids! However, patrons consistently cite frustrating downsides, including exceptionally tight legroom, very steep balcony inclines, and obstructive side-orchestra sightlines. At the orchestra, while offering an up-close experience, extreme side orchestra seats often suffer from obstructed views. Legroom and seat widths throughout the venue are noticeably tight, so booking an aisle seat is highly recommended for taller patrons. The mezzanine has the best balance of price and view. However, the rear section can suffer from the balcony overhang, which cuts off the top of the stage. The balcony offers a surprisingly clear and affordable vantage point, but the steep pitch can feel precarious to those afraid of heights. Restrooms are famously tight and lines move slowly at intermission, making it best to plan ahead. Drinks are available for purchase, though lines can be long. Because food/drink policies can be strictly enforced by house staff, be prepared to consume any outside snacks before entering the auditorium. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed watching " Hell's Kitchen"

And yes, once again an obvious head obstructed my view, but this review will be focused on the show. Getting back to the production. The clever premise of the show spans several years back in L.A. whereupon comedians join forces to literally stand up and read from celebrities memoirs/autobiographies---and it works. A 90 minute solo, mash up and dialogue being read by the comedians offers hilarious entertainment. The celebrity memoirs included those past and present. Granted some of the audience roared with laughter while I remained amused. I was never a stand up comic show kind of gal though I've seen plenty. In my opinion, what was really funny was the manner in which the memoirs were written. Some were so painfully bad. No disrespect to those who passed on, but it included Suzanne Somers, Bob Newart and Carol Channing. The contemporary autobiographies were equally bad, including Matthew McConaughey, Tiger Woods, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sylvester Stallone and so on. The roster of comedians will always be changing until it concludes its run in August. I saw Mario Cantone, Ralph Macchio, Brooke Adams to name a few. I didn't recognize some of the other comedians. If comedy with a twist is your thing, it's worth checking out. As the comedians emphasized, they can't make this stuff up as it was spoken in the words of the celebrity authors.

Mariska Hargitay stared in the one person show and being that she is our idol/role model, we booked a mom's day out to see our Queen shine. Once again, the theater ran like a well oiled machine. The staff gave great direction on how to find our seats and the intimate setting made the show that much more immersive.
