We had an oil change/tire rotation. Wife then drove to USPO, 2 miles away. Car would not start at PO. Called Monro and manager actually drove to PO to see what was wrong. Ended up being the fuel pump. (15 yr old Hyundai) Monro fixed it in one day. Very reasonable price and literally weeks before local dealership could have gotten to it. We have had nothing but great experiences at this property over several years with problems beyond regular maintenance. Highly recommended. Kudos to manager Don and his staff. read more

I walked in at 1:30 pm and and asked for an oil change. He and they were quite busy, but could fit me in if I did not mind waiting. I agreed to the $127.00 fee and I walked to the mall for a coffee. I was called 1 hour later to pick up. I gotta say, I was pretty happy. They checked out my vehicle as well. (So they say). So far, I see no problems. The only thing I would have liked is a mileage sticker in my window to guide me to my next oil change. The staff is extremely polite. The waiting area is clean. Their tunes slap! read more

UPDATE from my previous review draft from 2023 so you can see how far they've come in a year: John, who's worked for Monro for at least a decade, came in about a year ago and cleaned up the place. The awful staff/managers I talk about from 2019-2023 were finally dealt with. I scheduled an inspection, was expecting the disaster of every year before, so I made sure to call & check it was in the books. John reassured me it's there, and he'll be taking care of the inspection. Sure enough, he was the lone staff manning the location that day. He got everything taken care of in less than 30 mins. Even noticed something that needed sprucing up & did that service. I could cry. Never in 5 years with this place did they actually do their job well. I hope they give John proper support staff so he sticks around! He's done wonders for the place. 2023 draft (a one-two star review): The men working there had mostly been unpleasant to deal with--some to the point of hostile (unlike the guys over at the Elmira Road location, who were nice. Angel, in particular.) We've been customers at this Triphammer Monro for about 4 years now, and EVERY single time we bring the car in--whether it's for a a safety inspection or service--something goes very wrong. This year, they scheduled us for a safety inspection, but when we took it in at the appointment time, they claimed their safety inspector was done for the day. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. I had good experiences with this Monro in the past, but it appears to be under new management and my experience was awful. I took my car in for work on a vibration that I felt while driving. They came back with an estimate of about $1,400. I reluctantly agreed to have the work done. But not only did they not fix the problem, the vibration continued to worsen. I called them after a couple of days to express my anger at the cost and their failure to fix the problem. The manager was rude, defensive, and gave me a series of excuses about why he couldn't look at the car again promptly. He said I needed the repairs anyway. He said the technician who did the work wasn't in that day. He said they only worked by appointment. I rarely hang up on a phone call, but I did in this case. When I spend that kind of money on a repair, I expect it to work. And if the repair doesn't work, I expect prompt attention. I did not ask for, or authorize, a general inspection of the car for work that "needed to be done anyway." I authorized the work to fix a specific problem, and the repair failed. Avoid this Monro. UPDATE: I took it to another shop (Diane's in Ithaca) and they fixed the problem completely... for about $1,000 less than Monro charged. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I had been taking my cars there for more than a decade for simple work like oil change and state inspection (for more comprehensive work, I went elsewhere). It was a convenient location, and I got to know some of the staff (RIP Kurt). I was never impressed with the quality of the service, but at least I knew what to expect, and there was enough trust that I knew they weren't trying to rip me off too badly. Now the staff is all new, and I don't care for their shenanigans. In fact, two things happened recently after which I decided never to return to this Monro location. First, I took my brand-new SUV to get a state inspection. When I picked it up, there was a 1/4 inch scratch on the dashboard, just below the area where the state inspection sticker is located. They obviously damaged the dashboard while replacing the sticker. The scratch wasn't there before, since this was a new car. Before leaving the premises, I took a picture, and I went back to talk to the guys. They didn't admit culpability, but they also couldn't deny that this was done by them. They suggested I contact the regional manager, Jason. After playing some phone tag, I finally talked to Jason and he said he was going to send me the insurance paperwork. He never did. At this point, I gave up. Couldn't waste more of my time. It's not a huge scratch, but I expect a business to assume responsibility when they screw up. I should have learned my lesson at that point, but No. I took my other car for a state inspection. It's a 2022 car that had just had a routine checkup at the dealer's not too long ago, so I didn't expect anything wrong. Then I get "the call": I am told the car cannot pass the inspection because the brakes needed to be replaced. The estimate they quoted me was around $850, and that's with a coupon (lucky me!). These tactics are so juvenile and shameless. I assume a lot of people fall for them because the car won't pass the inspection otherwise. I told them NOT to do the work, and that I was coming to pick up the car. The guy was a little shocked, and let me know this meant no sticker for me... Funny aside: When I went to pick up the car, the guy was in the process of telling a young woman (also there for a NY inspection), that they needed to replace the oil filter as well, because (get this), if they didn't the filter would be sucked by the engine (LOL)! The young woman said she needed to call her dad, and lo and behold, when she came back she said the dad told her to only get the inspection done. I picked up my car, took it to the dealer, and it passed the inspection, no problems. So instead of paying $850 for breaks I didn't need, I paid $21 for the inspection. Disappointing. The right rear tire of my car got a nail and needed to be patched. But they opened the hood of my car. I didn't understand why they needed to check the engine when patching a tire. They said there were some small cracks on the side of my tire and couldn't patch it for me. They also suggested that I replace all four tires. It would cost around 800 US dollars. I asked how much it would be to just put on the spare tire. He said it would be over 20 dollars. I decided to do it myself. He said I still had to pay 40 dollars because his worker had inspected my car. In the end, I spent over 40 dollars and got nothing done. read more

Called about getting my license plate lights changed. The man on the phone told me to swing by today. However, when I got there, there was no appointment. The manager made up for it by changing my lights himself and did not even charge me! Very kind and really helped me when I was in a pickle! So disappointed. Had an inspection scheduled for 10 AM on Saturday 9/2/2023. We arrived just before 10 to drop the vehicle off for the inspection but the person at the counter said, 'Sorry we are closing early today and can't do the inspection anyway- the guy who does them isn't coming in' When asked why they didn't call and notify people with appointments he said 'You can go somewhere else if you want...' THANKS, don't mind if I do. Oh, he did offer to reschedule, but also said the inspection guy is 'hit or miss' and they can't guarantee he would be there for the next appointment. I get that it was a holiday weekend and sometimes people actually have to call off, but CALL THE AFFECTED CUSTOMERS. This location used to be our go-to for basic service but there is NO customer service at all anymore here. Stay away, and avoid disappointment and bad/non-existent customer service. read more

Last minute, end of their day, I started hearing a crunchy sound and called them up. They looked at it immediately without question, found the problem in minutes, and explained the issue clearly, even taking the time to teach me how to watch for it myself in the future.   I had been to three other shops in the preceding month to get a DIFFERENT issue inspected. The first two "couldn't replicate" the obvious sound. The third ID'd it as a muffler issue (as I had suspected) but he couldn't fix it, quoting more than the dealer and parts weren't available... yada yada . The dudes at Monroe, despite me bringing the vehicle in for a different problem altogether, caught both things immediately. They also quoted me comparatively reasonable rates to repair it all and were willing to rework their schedule to get me in within the next three days. Mad praise to these dudes, who are doin it well. Scheduled an appointment for a state inspection at 11:30 am. Made the appointment 2 weeks prior. I dropped the car off at 11:30 am. I can back at 13:45 to pick up the car, and they hadn't even looked at it yet. I was not a walk up! The excuse that was given was that "a lot of people make appointments, so it's not my fault." What? This makes no sense. And even if that is the case, a NY state inspection takes about 20 minutes. I should have at least been told this when I dropped the car off. I will never go back to this place again. read more

Won't come back to this shop again. Went here to get a slow leak on my tire fixed - left with no fix. I left my car and went to the gym next door - two hours later I came back to my car unmoved. Right when I sat in the lobby THEN they went to look at my tire. Came back and said "you need a new tire" and said "umm too close" when I asked where the hole was. I left because of the horrible service. Went to Mavis Discount Tire where they did patch my tire (for 26$). The gentleman there told me he used to work at a Monro where they wouldn't even patch a tire hole in the outer third even if it's a thumb away from the sidewall per NY state regulations. read more

The new "old" manager, Kurt, went above and beyond for us. I told him what had happened and he was sympathetic and told me the prior manager is gone. Could not be more disappointed in a business. After going to the Triphammer location for as long as I can remember (20 years?) I experienced the worst service possible on my last visit. Kurt, a previous manager, had earned my trust by taking care of me and my family and our vehicles in a straightforward and honest manner. This branch has changed since his departure. I went in to get my vehicle inspected and was failed for bad front brakes. I allowed them to replace the brakes to pass inspection. Some time later, I reviewed my maintenance records for the vehicle and saw that my vehicle had the brakes replaced at the dealership 10 months earlier with OEM parts. I then looked at the Monro spec sheet that I was given after the brake work was done only to see that the brakes were not worn to the point of being illegal. They failed me with good brakes. I contacted Corporate and they said I had no case to complain about. I will never go back there. read more

The online scheduling doesn't get transmitted to their schedule so i made an appointment, showed up, and they said they actually didn't have time to look at my car that day. So it shouldn't surprise you that when i tried to drop in a few times, they said they didn't have time either. I went to the Monroe downtown after both times and they took me as a drop in that same day. Lesson learned. Their oil changes are twice that anywhere else I've asked, but they come with free tire rotations to offset it, and sometimes you can use that to your advantage. read more

This business has 150 ratings on Google with a 4.5 star average. I have nothing but good things to say. I don't understand the negative reviews. The voice on the phone is competent, efficient, and helpful. There have been at least two occasions when I thought something major was wrong - and they had every opportunity to overcharge me - but they found something minor and charged me accordingly. If something is urgent, they tell me. If something can wait, they tell me. I have taken three cars there over the past twelve years and will continue to do so. read more

This place doesn't even deserve one star, but this site won't allow you to write a review without assigning at least one! I have been going to this Monro Muffler for several years for oil changes, tires, small concerns, etc and never had a problem. When I went for an oil change and tire rotation a few days ago, I told them I had been hearing a rubbing/scraping/grinding sound occasionally in the rear of my SUV and asked them to see if they could visually identify a problem. After the oil change was done, the manager told me that they did not see anything that would be causing the noise I described and said the technician was going to take it for a drive to hear the noise. A short time later, the technician returned. The manager told me that no noise had been heard and that I should drive with the tech to re-create or identify the noise. Before we got in the car, the technician warned that I would smell gas fumes in the car, but that I shouldn't be concerned. He told me that someone had spilled gasoline in the shop and it had splashed on the front end of my car. He assured me that he had washed it off with water and the fumes would dissipate. I then drove for a few minutes with the tech in the car and the noise did not happen. I stated that I was happy they hadn't found a problem and so wouldn't be concerned if I heard the noise again. And I drove home. Less than 1/4 of a mile from the shop. The next day, as I was leaving to run errands, a neighbor stopped by to tell me that my car was leaking gas! Sure enough, there was a serious leak! After rudeness and defensive on the part of staff and the store manager, I had another local mechanic look at it. They discovered a screw had been screwed through the heat shield and into the gas tank. This had been covered with a large cottonball-type swab and the edge of the heat shield had been bent over the screw to hide it!!!! I now have to replace the gas tank and the wheel and tire that the leaking gas damaged. Thousands of dollars!! The manager is denying culpability because "they don't have that type of screw in the shop" and his tech is "very religious" and "wouldn't lie." He claims it will be turned over to their insurance company to investigate and that it's out of his hands. So I have to take out a loan to get my car fixed but I can't get it fixed until their insurance investigators look at it. No telling how long that will be. I went in for an oil change and to make sure there were no other concerns. I now have a car that isn't drivable or sellable, thousands of dollars of repair, and a legal battle on my hands!! read more

I genuinely don't understand all of the negative reviews on this place. I made an appointment, got an oil change and an inspection, and was out in the less than an hour. I don't know if other people expected some sort of waiting room entertainment or chilled mint water, but I basically got exactly what I was looking for. The manager was wonderful to me - he made sure to point out the things that needed work on my vehicle, but he didn't pressure me into any additional services, like many places will often do to a beautiful damsel in distress (whose boyfriend wouldn't come with her because he has better things to do like look at dumb pictures on the internet). If you don't want a garage to do garage-y things to your car, I definitely recommend not going to one. But if you're into that sort of thing, I recommend Monro. Quick, friendly, and totally affordable. read more

I had an appointment to get snow tires today. The person working the desk needs a few lessons in customer service. I looked around for tire prices and found a good price - the website said 88.99 for the tire and 108.99 installed, which included a number of maintenance items including an alignment check. When I got to the store, the printed quote included doing the alignment. I said I thought the alignment check was included. He told me he wouldn't put my car on the machine unless I was getting an alignment - so the website says install includes alignment check but he said it didn't. He also needed me to pull up the price on the tires since the paper quote was $10 higher for each tire installed and was extremely rude. I walked out. I'm not giving my money or business to them. The sad part is the guy probably doesn't care that $500 sale walked out the door. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Took my car in to have my studs swapped out, 20 minutes after dropping it off I get a call stating all 6 of my tires are bald (4 all season and 2 studs) and my alignment was way off. When I said I could not afford $519 for 4 new tires and an alignment the guy tried to pressure me into applying for their credit card. I think not. Went online immediately after leaving their shop and purchased 4 new tires for $200 and had the Monro downtown put them on the next morning. Come to find out from the downtown Monro that 2 of my all season were good for another year, and the others would have lasted the summer and my alignment was so minutely off that he didn't even charge for it. After thinking back to my oil change in January, at the downtown location, I remember them telling me that my front tires were pretty soft and my rears were very over inflated, to which they fixed and even showed me the corrected pressures. Big shockers the last idiots to touch my tires before that was the Triphammer Monro techs. I will gladly bring my car to the downtown location for any work but these clowns on Triphammer need to be shut down read more

I am very disappointed with Monro! I went there this morning to get my vehicle inspected. Instead of receiving an inspection and good customer service, I was berated with a very condescending lecture on the New York State Inspection process and how long it takes per car. I was told the soonest they could do it was next week. I was also told they have to hold cars overnight because they don't get through all of their inspections in a given day, which seems very strange. I immediately went to one of Monro's main competitors for my inspection and received very friendly service and the inspection was completed in less than two hours. It was a night and day difference between Monro and the competitor. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Monro. While most shops don't profit very much, if at all, on inspections, they are a way to build longer business relationship with customers. In the near future, I will be in the market for new tires and other vehicle services. Based on my experience today, Monro will now be the last place that I consider. read more

Don't ever bring your car here for inspection, they will fail you no matters what, my 2015 Toyota Tacoma fail for windshield wipers a little ripped, they told me my truck fail safety, I ask can I go buy it and replaced, he said I have to pay 21 dollars for fail inspection and when I replaced it bring it back they will charge another 21 dollars for inspection again or pay them 32 dollars more for replaced the windshield wipers they will pass. Good place to go for an LOF. I have gone in several times and each and every time I have been told that I need something extra upon their "inspection" when they do a LOF. I then proceed to take my car to another shop for a second opinion. I am told every time that my car doe's not need this extra work. Latest example was 900.00 for a complete exhaust. Took it to another shop 19.00 for a minor minor repair. Maybe because I am a female senior citizen. I may be but I do not have STUPID tattooed on my forehead. Beware!!!!!! read more

These guys are honest and courteous. First time I came in, I expected a bad wheel bearing. They took it apart and called me back, said there wasn't anything wrong, when I would have been none the wiser. Second time, I thought I needed a new tire, but instead they patched the one that was leaking for way less money. They aren't in it just for the money, but for what's best for the customer. I just came in today with squealing brakes, they took a look and later gave me a call, giving me a very thorough and patient rundown, including an exact estimate. I went to Monro for a regular oil change today during lunch time. I was hoping to ask the manager if they have a time slot to do it so that I can leave the car there and grab some food nearby. However I had no chance to reach to him. The manager was constantly talking on the phone and completely ignored my existence. After a long waiting, say fifteen minutes, a mechanist came in to talk with him. I asked the mechanist who is standing by the manager if they have time to change oil. He replied it's up to the manager. The manager had clearly heard my question but showing no care. I thought i've shown enough respect after another several minutes' waiting, and asked the manager for just one moment. But he refused without confronting my eyes. Finally he had done his job, and told me the schedule is full in the recent three days. I felt humiliated and was really pissed. This is what I had after such a long waiting. He could tell me so while "doing his job". He totally wasted my time. Hence he had no respect to people. As a foreign student, I couldn't help thinking that I had just experienced a real-life case of what shouldn't happen in modern America. read more

Absolutely dishonest. My wife took our vehicle in to *only* change the rear break pads, but they also did the rotors, which I knew were discretionary. I wound up paying almost $500.00 for something I was expecting to be less than $200.I had been in the week before to get the oil changed. It was my first time there and they treated me well enough. They even showed me that the rear pads were getting low. I asked about the rotors and was told it would be fine as long as I brought it in soon. We brought the car in as soon as we could but never expected that they would do this. They never called us with an estimate but instead just went ahead and did the more expensive job. When I called an attendant named Ken tried to claim that the listing in my oil receipt from the week before--showing work I had declined--somehow functioned as an estimate. (There is no amount listed next to these items.) They also tried to blame my wife by saying that she approved the work. This is probably the worst part of the ordeal. My wife is not a native speaker but I know so very well that she is fluent. I'm not sure how to interpret Ken's suggestion that my wife did not understand what she was clearly telling them to do. I do know that there are many other international folks in the neighborhood--this is a big college town--and suspect that they try to do this sort of thing not so infrequently. It's shameful to resort to this kind of thing, especially in such a small town where everyone knows each other. read more
