I booked an oil change with Patterson's last week. During the time my car was at the shop they let me know that one of my lights on the back was out and offered to replace it. I said yes, thinking the cost would be worth the time it would take me to go buy the bulb and figure out how to install it. The oil change with the bulb replacement was $160. If that wasn't bad enough when I got home I realized the light on the back wasn't even installed properly. I went back to the shop to get it fixed, something that took 30 seconds. This was insane to me. A task that they initially billed .3 hours for to take 30 seconds to redo told me I was being exorbitantly overcharged. I was able to get a refund on the bulb but I feel as though they thought I wasn't smart and didn't understand I was being scammed. Do not go to Patterson's! I will not be returning and nor should you !! read more

I have become a fan of this business. I have had extensive work done on my car , Control arms needed to be replaced and they took fotos and showed me the deteriorating condition prior to doing any work. I've had brakes done and they gave me information to get a rebate. Mike Sealy is extremely honest and a great mechanic! I asked him to check several things as suggested by another dealer and he showed me that half of those were unnecessary. I made an appointment at Patterson's Service Station for a New York State inspection for my car. Nathan and Mike are amazing. They are helpful, caring and let you know that they appreciate your business. They did a great job and even loaned me a car for the day at no charge while they did the inspection. I recently moved here from a warm climate and they unfroze my window washer fluid, cleaned out the reservoir and got in the right fluid for frigid New York State. it just doesn't get any better than that. Brought my car here 3 times with the same issue. After the first time, they charged me over $400 for repairs and my car still had the same issues afterwards. The second time, they found the same problem as last time (and tried to charge me again for them to re-do their bad job!) and more problems which costed me over another $600. In the store, they tried to charge me about $100 more than the price they said on the phone. After that, my car was still having the same issues so I brought it back a 3rd time, expecting them to find and resolve the issue free of charge since they failed to solve the problem the first two times. They ended up just charging me over $80 for them to tell me they couldn't figure out what's wrong with the car. After that I gave up; at this point I can't even afford to bring my car somewhere else to get this issue fixed after dropping over $1000 here for nothing. This place is extremely overpriced to begin with, and they are either money-hungry or have no idea what their doing--or both! Do NOT bring your car here. read more

Nathan and the crew provided great customer service and were forthcoming with any information I asked for. I called ahead for a dual headlight replacement for a Subaru Forester and was told that those cars require extra work to get to the lights and so would take about an hour/hour and a half. I brought the car in and spoke with the same person as on the phone, Nathan. My car was ready for pick up before their estimated time. After the pick up I noticed that my passenger day time running light was no longer working. Since I didn't do a proper inspection before handing it in, I couldn't be sure if it just burned out or maybe the crew made a mistake. Nathan happily told me to bring it over, and together with a mechanic showed me how they went about fixing my headlights, how they couldn't have damaged the daytime running light in that way, and even replaced it for me free of charge. Pricing: ~$60 for parts, ~$30 for labor tl;dr Brought in my car for a dual headlight fix, was concerned garage service might have damaged a daytime running light. Was politely but categorically shown that the light had just burned out and was unrelated to the headlight service, and was then offered the extra fix free of charge anyway. Not an Ithica resident, but if I was this would be my regular garage. read more

Patterson's is the only garage in Ithaca, NY that I would recommend for servicing your vehicle. It may be more expensive than the average garage in the area, but with increased cost comes increased quality. The technicians are knowledgeable, friendly, and much more reasonable than dealerships I have dealt with. I have had my vehicle serviced here many times since I starting living in Ithaca, for a variety reasons including coolant leakage, issues with brakes, and a broken leaf-spring, all of which were effectively resolved thanks to Patterson's! read more

I took my car into Patterson's because it was due for an oil change and had started to make an odd sound when running. When I dropped it off, I spoke with the manager(owner?) and told him I was planning to sell it soon before a move. After taking some time to diagnose the issue and check the car over, they called me back and talked me through the different options I had (and what they thought made the most sense given my situation). As someone lacking an in-depth knowledge of cars, they were incredibly helpful, transparent, and patient in explaining the issues and my options. I have taken my car here a few times over the past couple of years while in town, but this last visit confirmed the quality of their service. I had a low tire warning, so I came to the shop to get my tires pumped. I got injured recently, and the man at the front was very nice and came outside to help me. He filled all of my tires with air and when I asked him how much I owed him, he insisted that I didn't need to pay him. Just from this experience, I can tell that the customer service here is top notch. The worst repair shop I have ever been to. I am a female college student, they took complete advantage of me. They saw me walk in, realized I knew nothing about cars, and charged me three times the price it should have been. They also charged me foe 6 hours of labor when in reality it only takes 2.5 hours to fix a radiator. These men are cons. Go ANYWHERE ELSE but here. read more

I've gone to Pattersons a few times. Mostly to excellent reviews. Most recently however I brought my car in for a few issues. One of them was the fixing of my windshield wipers (which engaged as soon as I hit a bump). They installed a new windshield washer switch into my steering column. The total cost was $273 for that material and labor. I picked up the car and the windshield wipers still engaged as soon as I hit a bump. Told Pattersons and brought it back in. A day later I get a call asking me to come down because they can't get the wipers to engage when they hit a bump. I was VERY skeptical because these things engaged ALL THE TIME...didn't even have to be a major bump. I had a hunch they were trying to dupe me. They were. They didn't want to refund the amount they already put into it obviously. It was easy to figure this out after talking to a couple parties there and seeing that their stories didn't quite match up.
