I have had Mavis staff help me several times. The first they found numerous problems with a jeep I just bought. So I took it back to the dealer to fix. Which ended up being a few thousands of dollars. Second time, I took my daughters car there due to rattling. They fixed that perfectly. I am a long time customer at Mavis, Cortland. Yesterday, I had a majority of my exhaust system replaced. This experience reminded me why I come here. Parts were ordered on Sunday for a Monday appointment. My appointment time was adjusted as one part ran a few hours late arriving. They stayed in touch and I was able to come when the part arrived. The work was completed in 1 1/2 hours. While I was waiting, I got to see the desk staff interact with many customers. They are always polite, clear about what they are doing, and what needs to be done to the car. They show you what needs to be done when it's possible to do that. Easy-going in a hectic environment. And the price is always fair. read more

Very disappointed in the service. I now know to never come to a chain store to get any type of work done on my car. I scheduled an appointment to get snow tires put on, and I called the location beforehand to see what they had in stock. The person I spoke to on the phone was from a call-center and didn't communicate anything to the store, because when I went to my appointment they made me wait for two hours just to tell me that the tires that were supposed to be in stock never came in and they didn't have any. HOW RIDICULOUS!!! Also, even though I made an appointment, a bunch of people were ahead of me, which is why I had to wait so long! This was a complete waste of my time, just go to a local family owned shop instead where you won't get screwed over!! read more

I been taking my cars here since I started driving.. Best prices compared to many shops.. Friendly staff.. I wouldn't trust many with my cars but they had the vibe and over time of doing business with them they are definitely trustworthy in my book.. Had an appointment at 8:00am dropped my car off while one other person was there doing the same. I was told it would take a couple hours for 4 tires to be put on. I told them I'd be back at noon to pick it up. When I got there my car was sitting in the exact same spot as it was at 8:00am. When I asked if my car was ready it was as though they had just forgotten about it and said sorry it was a busy day. When asked if they couldn't have called to let me know it would be longer, or why I was told a couple hours they said we could have and that's how long they thought. So to have an 8:00am appointment and be waiting almost 5 hours for 4 tires is ridiculous. read more

I went to mavis for tires and service since it was cole muffler. I took my car in for inspection in july 2019 and before I made it home the front wheel left the car. The locking lug kept it from coming completely free but the car came to a screeching halt and pulled hard I nearly ended up in a ditch. Ive never complained about it , always great in the past , didnt want anyone to lose their job. As time went by I think I should have complained. Someone could have been badly hurt. read more

My Sister brought her car in for an oil change. After the oil change the Technician came out and said her battery was completely dead. They sold her a battery with an install. My Sister said there were four Technicians now working on this install. She asked Dan at the front counter why is there were four Technicians working on her car. He replied it was for training purposes. She also heard a hammering noise but wasn't really sure what they were hammering. On 10/7/2021 My Sister ask me to check her car because she heard a thumping noise from the engine compartment. I looked at the car for her. The battery hold down hook clamp was not engaged. The battery had come off the tray and was lying against the upper radiator hose. The positive battery cover was off and had fallen and was hooked on the oil dipstick. I checked the alternator output at 13.99 volts If the door is left open for a period of time the security will set giving the appearance of a completely dead battery. Any Technician would know to turn off the security off with the key FOB or at least blow the horn. Being the battery was fine when she drove in. You sold her a battery that was not needed with an inferior sloppy install. Now four people learn what not to do. They took advantage of an older woman and sold her battery that was not needed. This is disgraceful and should never happen again. read more

Car was inspected and noise was determined to be struts. All work was throughly explained to me before completing and the car was ready when promised. Respectable place. read more

I picked a busy time of year, late December, so I expected the wait time to be a while. But I didn't figure it would take 3 hours to get 4 tires on. There was only one technician working, the rest showed up almost an hour late. I also felt like it was more expensive then it should have been. But that's life. 2 days later I went out to my car. It was a Tuesday. One of my tires was already flat. I called the store to tell them and they said they couldn't get me in until Friday. I took the tire to a local business and they did it for no cost. Because it was something easy that should have been done at the shop. Go get your tires somewhere else. read more

My gf had taken her car to get an oil change and tire rotation. When she arrived home I noticed the new set of tires were still on the rear and not rotated to the front so as a mechanicly inclined person I checked the oil filter. Its one of those drop in kind not the screw on and sure enough they had not changed it. They did change the oil however. When I went back they swore up and down that they did the work they billed me for and that I was wrong. But after I mentioned the fact that I was a mechanic in the Army for four years they changed tunes and agreed to "redo" the work for free. I expect most chain shops to screw up major repairs but not a simple oil change. One star bonus for eventually doing the work Ipayed for. read more

Very happy customer. My son's car needed emergency repair on finals week. Being Mavis was so close to the SUNY campus, we chose this shop based on the convenient location. Parts had to be ordered and the vehicle was repaired the next day. I had spoken with two or three different people at this facility - all very nice. The repairs were completed the next day as promised and the invoice total was lower than the verbal estimate I had received. That was a very nice surprise. Cortland NY Store. You lost my business today! I have used Mavis for my business and personal tire needs for many years. Until today, the service has been good. Yesterday I made an appointment for 1pm today. When I arrived, they were very busy. I told the counter service person that I had a 1 o'clock appointment. He said he'd get me in as quickly as he could. Forty-five minutes later, other autos had moved in and out but not my vehicle. I had made another committment so I went to the counter where I waited for several minutes to have someone return my keys. No one came. I walked outside to find someone. I stated that I would have to get my keys back because the 1 o'clock appointment had not been honored. Without a word the customer no-service person went for the keys and returned them to me asking "Are these yours?" It appeared he was delighted to have one less person to deal with. A simple explanation up front that he would not be able to honor the appointment would have been helpful. Yes, I would have been ticked but would not have wasted time waiting for something that was not going to happen for possibly several hours. I understand how difficult it is to find anyone who wants to work.....especially on a weekend. However, this customer no-service person may not belong in the customer service area of Mavis Tire. read more

I have been a customer of Mavis Discount Tire for many years. They always have very competitive prices on tires and brakes. The managers treat customers with a professional attitude and are courteous and friendly. In the past it was Larry Foster and now it's Shea and Justin. When I call for an appt. or go on line to make an appt. I know they will do their best to get me in and out as quickly as possible. I've had to bring my car in a few times to be re-torqued or tires rebalanced and they do it in ten minutes or less. Customer service seems to be #1 with this group and if that continues, I will continue to be a customer. read more

I used to have good experiences with Mavis in Cortland,in fact the only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is knowing that not everyone who works there do a sloppy job, I particularly have high respect for Shay and Marquis. I've been very loyal to this shop until this week. They have a new guy working at the reception who needs to learn better customer service,I phoned them 3 days ago and set up an appointment to have 2 cars changed tires (all season to winter),on the scheduled date and time,I showed up and he insist that they can only do 1 car since I did not inform them beforehand of 2 cars,that it is impossible for them to schedule 2 cars on such a busy day, I told them that Shay was on the phone and we did set up 2 cars not 1. So I insisted,that made him obviously pissed as he kept on repeating that only 1 car has been scheduled. So wanting to move on and head back to work ASAP, I told them to just work on my wife's car first, I have all 4 winter tires inside that I have them removed last July to install brand new all season tires that I bought from them. After an hour,lo and behold I received a call from them telling me that one of the tires has a irreparable slit on the side wall?? (These are almost brand new tires)This is the same tire that my car was running with last July that they themselves removed! I am 100% sure that I could not have caused the slit,all I did was brought the tires in my shed still with the same plastic bags they provided. So they offered me to buy one new winter tire of the same brand costing $140. I know there is no way to prove that the mysterious "slit" on my tire was done by them. I just decided not to do further business with them from this point moving forward. For those of you guys planning on having them change your tires, please make sure you inspect them, before and after the work is done. And by the way, when I called in to cancel the order today, the guy checked my previous tickets and verified that I did called 3 days ago to schedule 2 cars and not just 1 for a tire change! read more

After having my car serviced (alignment and rotation under lifetime contracts) at the Firestone store in my home area 50 miles away, I discovered on my drive to Cortland up I-81 that there was a significant wheel balance problem. I called Firestone to inquire about this and was told (to my surprise) that balance isn't automatically done with rotation; he said they'd do it for $42--$10 less than usual because of the inconvenience. Since I didn't want to drive back home to get this done, I called Mavis (with whom I'd done previous business in my home area) in Cortland and arranged to have it done there. It was handled exceptionally smoothly and courteously--and for $30. I had a very positive opinion of Mavis from my prior experience at home and they certainly came through even though it was a different store. I think they're a great chain and I now am quite comfortable taking all my new business there. read more
