we took out an old skiff and it was horrible! the boat had issues that they knew about and still allowed us to take it out. hard to steer. Garmin went out after an hour & we are NOT familiar with the area at all. The radio drain the battery within the first hour, and we thought we were gonna be stuck.!! We ended up bringing the boat back almost 3 hours early. The young lady that worked there even admitted she knew it had problems they offered us nothing no compensation no apologies just oh well they want your $350. Have a good day.!! First time renting a boat in Southwest Florida. We picked the right place. Nathan was very knowledgeable, very professional, and easy to talk to. He has a wealth of information and you can tell he thoroughly enjoys what he does. When it comes time to renting another boat, this will be our place. You go out of the canal and you're right there is Sanibel and Captiva. Lots of dolphins today which entertained us. This place is so unprofessional that I would never recommend this place not even to my worse enemy. First of all we rent a boat for the day and 2hrs into out trip we get stuck on an oyster bar we call the place for help and they said there was no available boats to go out to help. We finally get free then we head back out and get lost. They finally have someone go out and look for us. We get back to the marina and as we're docking the boat notice the people that work there laughing at us for not knowing how to dock the boat the right way.(this is our first time steering a boat). So all in all I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Great time at Monroe Canal Marina! This is the third time renting a boat from this Marina. EVERY time the boats have been spotlessly clean, well maintained boats. The cost for a day rental is very reasonable. The location is a perfect jumping off point for a beach day at Cayo Costa or North Captiva or even a run out for some serious fishing. The staff are always cheerful and have customer service always in their focus. Their knowledge of local waters is endless. Worst customer service ever! If I could give a zero star I would! We rented and paid for a full day. With some unforeseen setbacks, we got there later than expected. Which is ok bc we already paid for it. They said that if we came back late, they will charge $150 for every hour. We were fine with that. We were willing to pay the extra $150 for the hour that we were late. We did come back in less than an hour, but with them having us maneuver the boat around and checking for gas and such, the time went over 1 hour and 5mins before we closed out. They were imminent about charging us $300 for an hour and 5mins!!! What kind of business does this? If they were lenient about the additional $150 for being 5mins late, we wouldn't be upset at all. The ladies that was running the business were not friendly at all. Their first impression when they greeted us was already a red flag for me. I do not recommend this business at all. Absolutely the worst experience ever. read more

Came to St. James Bay with the family for about a week and rented from this establishment twice on two separate days during the week of April 9th,2017. The first day was the Carolina skiff and the second day was the 20 foot Hurricane . Both times were great experiences. Very friendly staff, very helpful, and the equipment and boats are in very good shape, are fuel efficient and run very well. This is noted as I have rented from many places in the Fort Lauderdale, Saint Augustine, and Miami areas and have experienced some true pieces of you know what. This place obviously cares for their boats and replaces things when they need to be replaced. Next time I am this way, I would definitely rent from them again. Reasonable prices as well. If you can find a friendlier marina and employees, please let me know because I don't think you can. read more

We came to Pine Island for a few days of fishing and exploring the area waterways. We chose Monroe Canal Marina at first because it was close to where we were staying. We returned because of the service and staff. Kendall, Chris and the other staff we interacted with were so incredibly helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They were fully stocked with supplies and bait and launching/retrieving were quick and easy. When reserving a boat from this location I was not informed that the Carolina skiff had what they called a tiller motor. I called back 2 hours later to change my reservation to 12 until 4pm . So I arrived the following day at 11:30am and as we walked in the door, a young guy behind the counter had a attitude right from the get go. I told him we had a reservation and he started yelling at me that he figured we weren't showing up due to our rental was at 8am. I tried to explain to him that we had called back and changed to to noon. The young man didn't care and kept yelling at me and even acted as if he wanted to fight. I looked at my fiancé and said we are not going to be treated like this and are not renting from a company that treats customers like this and did walk out of the store. I will never go to this marina again and do not recommend them. read more

Recently rented a boat from here and as the staff were very friendly the boat was not what I would say up to par to be in a rental fleet actually a little bit on the dangerous side no lanyard for safety clip that was zip tied off which I'm OK with that but for a rental fleet they really should have them on there the live well was broke and I attempted to use that and borderline almost sank the boat until I figured out what was going on the bilge pump which I was explained was automatic was in fact not operating if it would've been the live well would not been an issue and the boat did not run properly every time I shifted it shut off that all being said wasn't really that upset with that but took it back one day early in the morning and I actually thought maybe they should refund me one day I rented it for three very disappointed this was about two weeks ago and I've been holding off writing this review thinking maybe they would do the right thing but I guess not read more

Our family rented a 21 foot fishing boat on 7/18/18. The staff was very friendly and helpful. He took time to explain both the boat, Garmin, and map of the area. We had a great time boating and fishing around Sanibel, Pine Island and the mangroves. The boat was clean and ran well. We will definitely rent again when we visit St James City!
