Monrovia Library is simply the top library in the San Gabriel Valley! We've gone to multiple surrounding libraries in the Pasadena, Arcadia and Duarte area and feel Monrovia Library definitely has the best community programs and activities for families and children. What really stands out is their Storytime hosted by Ms. Annette every Wednesday at 10:00am, which I've been bringing my 2 kids to for over 5 years. She is such a wonderful gem to the community! The effort she puts into the weekly Storytime and the various youth programs is outstanding and admirable. The exceptional quality of work when one's passion, interests, and strengths align is apparent in Ms. Annette's dedication to her job. Another huge selling point about this library is the convenience of a playground right behind it and its beautiful outdoor surroundings of mature trees. It's located right next to Old Town Monrovia, so you can walk over to the downtown for a drink or meal afterwards and make a whole day out of your visit. Highly recommend!!! read more

I love this library for multiple reasons, and I don't even live in Monrovia and haven't really used all of the features/amenities this library has to offer! First, the library has a great location. It is in downtown Monrovia which is awesome with many good restaurants like The State and Noodle St. It is surrounded by nature - lots of grass, trees, and even a playground - so people can be outdoor or indoor. Next, every Tuesday it has a baby storytime and then toys to play (for toddlers it is Wednesday). My baby son doesn't care for the story time but he loves coming to play with the toys and the other babies. Even on non-Tuesdays, there are limited set of toys that kids of all ages can play. I find this library to be one of the most kids-friendly libraries around me, so I come here when I can. Finally, the library itself is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and I see that I can use the 3D printer and equipments like music instruments. Very resourceful! MOnrovia library is a great place to read books and study. Many kids come here after school to do their homework and meet up with their parents. Especially from MOnrovia High school. Not unusual, Thats with pretty much any library. I love the architexture here and the place. Really clean and neat. Staff are wonderful here. Lots of good after school programs for the kids. This library was rebuilt from the ground up in the early 2000's. Even though the old Library was all around cuter it is nonetheless a great library. I grew up a few blocks Whenever I'm in the area I'll stop by just to relax for a few minutes. It's just that kind of place for me. Almost all the homes nearby are also very cute, the homes, and businesses -everything. Even though Monrovia can be a bit much at times, the overall look and feel of the area around the library is nice. Back to the Library: The only big downside is the Wifi going in and out, it's not the best. Aside from that, always a respite visiting the Monrovia Public Library. read more

Nice library overall. Bathrooms could be cleaner. Can be challenging to find parking nearby. Just an FYI that there are a lot of homeless around the library and also inside. I had to study here a few times when electricity was down in the Monrovia suburbs. I take down 3 stars because the interior of the library is a very unattractive place to study (no ambiance at all, not comfortable or inviting, very sterile plain interior w no character or style of any kind). There is a special closed off room that looks like a real library, but is a preserved room and visitors are not usually allowed in it. The book selection is very very small though they do have a good DVD selection. Overall, the incredibly sterile cold interior w no character or style, along with the harsh headache-inducing buzzing florescent lighting was hideous and not a reasonable place to consider studying in. It also is very crammed inside. Overall, the inside just feels crammed, small, ugly, bad lighting and depressing. The staff were always fine here. The outside of the library is gorgeous. read more

The monrovia library is clean, spacious and accessible! I have been coming here for years and truly enjoy the wide selection of books and magazines! The staff is very professional and go out of their way to help you! I walk from my house to there and feel fortunate to have such a gem right in my backyard! The park surrounding the library is lovely, and it feels so nice to check out a book and then sit under a tree on the grass and read it. They also have movies for rent. They've updated SO MUCH of their inventory and everything. Now there are computer uses and MORE books and MORE options. I upgraded my library card to now have access to their computers and their classes. They actually have classes. How awesome is this. Oh, if you look at my past review. I FAILED my New Year's resolution of reading. BUT I'm trying again. TRYING. The people who work here are fabulous and they have events all the time. The inventory is great. Please note that there are more books than in the inventory. I was looking for books on editing and the computer only listed a few, but when I went to the section - there were more. It could be because they labeled it differently. Anyways, I thought I left my phone on the computer and they were so helpful to try to find it for me. But I was dumb and dropped it in the car. But yeah. Tons of parking. They even extended the library hours on Monday - Wednesday. YAY! I love this town. read more

I adore this library and actually drive quite a distance to come here. There are two private study rooms that are available for 2 hour blocks of time, only issued if you have a library card. The rooms are virtually silent. My heart sinks a little bit when they are not available. There are a few nice areas to sit and browse or do leasurely reading, and some cubicles that are private. Perfect for studying if you need solitude. The library is clean and inviting. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Parking is free and on the street. There are some municipal parking lots close by. Give this library a try, but be sure to check library hours before making the trek. Hours at all local libraries are wonky. read more

With the park out front and large windows all around this library is the perfect solace to come study, work (or just find some air conditioning in this heat!). This library is so darn cool! They let you check out telescopes that come with instructions and examples of how to use it. Really great. They also have a small space station where you can log in and view different areas of space. For the kids, they have a lot of activities, including movie/popcorn nights and summer activities. It's right across from the community center, so between those two, you can always find something fun and interesting to do with the family. The book selection is cool too, whatever they don't have they can order from another library over and have you check it out. read more

The computers in the library are very old ( the look of monitors) like last decades. Over all is okay.

It's unbelievable how loud it is in here. Adults talking on their phones, kids running a muck. People speaking with no regard for people reading or studying. The staff does nothing about it. I remember when libraries were a place for quiet and peace. read more

Going to the library is supposed to be a quiet, peaceful experience. This library is anything but that. There are homeless people sleeping in the chairs snoring, people coughing and sneezing all over everyone, people don't seem to care that they have full conversations loudly, some guy is moaning at the computer every time I come here and today he has ripped pants all the way up to his junk (there are kids here) and NONE of the employees say anything about any of these issues. The outside is a complete mess and doesn't feel safe. Something needs to be done at this location. read more

This place is by far my favorite public library around 626, it's very clean, quiet and relaxing to study. I would recommend this place to all the students that live around the area to come here rather than spending your money to study at coffee shops. read more

I'm not sure if I've just been spoiled by other libraries or what but, I think this library isn't that impressive. I like to study somewhere that's REALLY quiet and this just wasn't quiet enough for me. I came on a Friday afternoon in the summer so I don't think there were too many kids either... The outside is very impressive, with a large grassy area, but I'm rating the library based on the inside. The restrooms are right outside by the door and once inside, you can either go left or right. I went left, for the adult section. There are a good number of seats lining the perimeter, with a lot of light coming in from the glass windows, but my only complaint was the noise. It seemed that no matter where you sat, the noise from the librarian's desk still reached you. It's probably because the desk is in the middle of everything... I had to put my ear phones on to reduce the noise... Overall, I think it's a pretty new and nice library, and I would come here if I wanted to do some light reading. It's not somewhere I'd come to do heavy, FOCUSED work. read more

I think the library looks gorgeous and they have a decent selection of books. I also like how the front door has two doors so there isn't much outside noise. The staff honestly seems snotty and the people coming here to go on the computers honestly creep me out. Everyone seems really judgy and people are so freaking loud. One guy today was wearing earphones and banging beats on a desk for his music. I'd understand if it was a kid doing that, but this was an old ass man. It was rude and annoying and he wouldn't stfu about it. I like actual books, that's why I come, but I feel uncomfortable being here with everyone judging you. Not to mention the large amount of homeless people you see hanging out in the front of the library. If I had children I wouldn't trust them to be here. read more
