Unfortunately, I cannot in good conscience recommend this tree company. While the price was good and they came and removed the tree very quickly. The problem is that they run through a call service. The number the arborist/estimator contacts you from is a no response text. My husband and I weren't happy with the total outcome of the job and wanted someone to come and look at it. Called twice was told the first time the arborist would be there the next day to look at it. He never showed or called. Called again days later. This time the call service told my husband the arborist would call him back to discuss what we felt wasn't done. Never heard from them again. Except via email to repost the invoice to get paid. Won't be using them again. After posting this review on Google reviews they contacted us multiple times. My husband had already spent two full days cleaning up their mess. They should have contacted us back when we had called repeatedly not when they saw the review. That is not how it should work! read more

We had a big job clearing out dead trees and overgrowth at a property that we are planning to build on. Our architect recommended Tom at Monster Tree. Tom met me at the property and we meticulously went through the areas of need. I had a flat and Tom was kind enough to change it for me!!! To make sure there was no miscommunication per the work that needed to be done, Tom followed up by sending individual pictures of all the trees and overgrowth that would be removed. The contract was clear and precise. Tom's bid came in significantly lower than my other two estimates. He communicated with me throughout the job, and the work was done in a timely manner. Following tree damage to my property by a neighbor I requested a quote for replacing the trees and to have Monster Tree provide court testimony about the estimate. I was to pay $500 for the estimate and $2000 for Monster Tree to testify at court. Monster Tree, however, got overly greedy and stated I would need to pay $2000 PER DAY for testimony, if they had to come back to court to answer any further questions about their estimate. Let the buyer beware. Some companies think they have you over a barrel in a litigation case and unashamedly expect to earn more money for attending a hearing than the Attorney gets for attending a hearing! In a word- Ridiculous! I only gave them one star, because zero stars was not an option! Though in their response they say they declined to move forward, had I agreed to the ridiculous demand for $2000 per day, they were most certainly willing to move forward. This was a simple property damage claim, not a month's long murder trial. And throwing in the part about disabilities was unnecessary and meant to distract from the real issue, in my opinion! read more

Estimate was quick, accurate and lower than competitors. We were getting planned work done, so it wasn't an "emergency rate". Getting scheduled was fairly painless, but we had to wait over a month for the work to be done. When the time came, we received an email telling us the day it would be done. Not terribly exact and a bit hard to schedule. All in all, just a small inconvenience. Workers with equipment arrived and removed our huge 70 ft. 45 year old tulip poplar in about 4 hours. It was feat of engineering. Very impressive, professional, and no damage to the property which is amazing. It was worth the wait. Will call on them again when the time comes. read more

Way exceeded my expectations! We got a quote from a local guy and it seemed high. I have Monster a call. They beat the quote by $350 and then accepted a $200 coupon we found online. They trimmed and shaped 5 trees, all by hand because truck wouldn't fit in my back yard. They all look great. The crew leader asked for my opinion and shaped further based on my suggestions. They completely cleared the branches from my river birch away from my chimney. When they were done, they completely cleaned my yard. Robert M I have used Monster for +/- 4 times over several years. Just had 2 trees taken down. Talked to mike and the operations manager. Argued with me and took no responsibility. Gave a small bag of grass seed. Here are my complaints. 1-No mats were used for driving over my lawn. The trees were along my driveway and about 20 feet from the driveway. Leaving matted grass and ruts. Monster said that's normal damage! 2-No Mats were placed under the crane outriggers leaving large divets in the lawn. Monster said that's normal damage! 3- No mats were used for the stump grinding adding to the lawn damage. Monster said that's normal damage! 4-Ran thru my rock garden and ivy when they could have moved 5' and done no damage. No mats and Monster said that's normal damage! 5-Saw dust is everywhere including embedded in my lawn. I spent 2 hours cleaning it up. Monster said that's normal damage! Came back once and cleaned my driveway. 5-The logs were piled and damaged the lawn opposite the side of the trees being removed. No mats again. Monster said that's normal damage! Had they taken responsibility and repaired the excessive damage, I would understand. They just made excuses so i told them don't bother. I will never use or recommend them again. read more

What a great experience. We had gotten prices to drop three LARGE problematic trees on our property and were discouraged by the cost. After receiving a promotional coupon in the mail, we decided to give Monster a call. Their cost was significantly less, but their reviews were good so we booked them. I can't say enough about how impressed we were. Their guys were kind and respectful, they were very safety conscious, their equipment was new and well maintained, they cleaned up the area and were gone quicker than I thought was possible. They had to bring a crane and it was impressive to observe their expertise at work as they talked to each other through headsets and were careful not to damage our property. They came - They saw - They confined (i.e. my trees) Those are the T(h)ree T(3)'s by which I wud summarize by experience!!! During the last winter storm of the season, the pine tree in front of our house was heavily shedding branches onto the sidewalk, and the situation was becoming more & more precarious to the point where my beloved tree almost killed me with one of its strong branches while I was trying to clean debris underneath on my own! Finally, I know what a "widow-maker" means :O... On contacting Monster Tree Service, I got their assessment & estimate within no time. They also indicated a tentative time-frame of when the work would be done, and showed up way ahead of schedule considering the direness of the situation. About 4-5 tree experts with their heavy duty artillery (shredder, crane etc.) arrived at our property to do the job. Being a huge tree-hugger, I had chosen to prune the widow-maker branches over taking the tree down. My suggestion was duly noted and honored; which encouraged me to give the same treatment to another tree along the sidewalk. Speaking of the staff - they knew what they were doing and didn't haggle me with any questions, so I didn't have to intervene at all. However, I didn't miss the marvel of watching the highly skilled crew operating those "Monster-ous" machines. The person on the crane was reaching gigantic heights in making sure he clipped all the far & high-hanging branches of the tree using a pole-saw. Understandably, this needs a considerable amount of knowledge and attention in figuring what branches are likely to fall (not to mention those that interfere over-sized vehicles on the street). But more importantly I realized tree trimming is an "Art" (an art that'll give me butterflies in the stomach at that height ;)) And what to say about the crew on ground - from picking up fallen branches, twigs & leaves to hauling them to the shredder & using pole-saws for low-hanging branches - it all seemed like clockwork. Every crew member took his turn in doing their part, and they kept rotating tasks without any instructions from any supervisors or exchanging a single word between them. Gave me a sweet impression that they were a seasoned team that always worked together and knew what they had to do at the back of their hands. Much like watching your favorite football team on TV where you don't get to actually hear the players yet see them perform at their professional best!!! To finish it off - they were all gone within an hour leaving behind NO debris, NO collateral damage & NO regrets whatsoever. Special thanks to Max (Board Certified Master Arborist) - who had not only assessed the whole situation much in advance, but also predicted that something of this sort was likely to occur. I first used Monster in 2015 and was very happy with their service and pricing. This year I called them to check on my ailing huge red oak that's been treated for leaf scorch for several years and has been losing branches. Their "arborist" recommended removing some dead wood and treating it again with growth suppressant, which I OK'd. They also pruned back some dead branches from several other trees. and removed one tree completely. The tree removal was fine and the cleanup was decent. However, my huge oak in front kept dropping 20 foot long branches for no apparent reason - no wind, rain or storms. Also, the bark was peeling off of the trunk and underneath was soft and mushy. I called another tree company that was recommended by my landscapers and Chris came out to confirm that the huge red oak was mostly dead inside and a hazard since it was near my sunroom and bedroom. He also noticed that the linden that Monster had pruned back had a huge hole in the trunk that went almost through the entire perimeter. Needless to say, I had both trees removed. I think Monster is OK if you have a completely dead tree that you want taken down. If you want an arborist to inspect your trees, you need to get someone who is better trained. Since Monster is a franchise, it could be that other franchises are better. I had a different franchise before this year and didn't initially realize that all the people I was interacting with were different than before. Not every tree guy who claims to be "arborist" will give you good advice. Because of previous experiences with Monster, I didn't get any other estimates before going with them - a big mistake. Would have saved myself a ton of money. read more

A terrible storm caused a tree to fall directly onto my house one evening, piercing through the roof and one of the walls of my home. I called Monster (along with a few other "emergency" tree removal places that never bothered to call back) and the customer service rep was very helpful. They were able to get someone over to the house first thing the next morning to assess the damage and put together the removal plan. To my surprise, they were able to have a crew out that very afternoon to do the removal. Overall, I was happy with the brevity of the whole experience, since it was very much a NOT FUN situation to have to deal with in the first place. A couple of reasons I gave 4 stars and not 5: - The price seemed a little steep, but again, it was for an emergency removal so the speed of the turnaround time may have been factored into that. - I was charged an additional $500 fee for "removal of all debris, wood, and brush" from the area---which I suppose is all part of the game, however, there was a significant amount of debris still leftover in my yard after the crew left. I called and spoke with their finance department to discuss this issue, and they refunded me $100. I was hoping for at least half of the fee refunded back, but $100 was better than nothing. Bottom line, if you're in a real emergency bind, Monster will likely be able to help you out and quite quickly. If you're looking for casual, NON-emergency tree removal, you may want to shop around for some quotes first. read more

Took over 2 months for them to come and do the work, and I had to call and pin them to a specific date! Was told take the tree out, agreed ,2 days prior to removal 2 salesmen said we can't do that. One salesmen said the other guy was new and was inexperienced. So keep tree and would call and let us know when. Came out to trim instead of remove as suggested. Problem with branch stopped and will get back didn't hear, called again got Jenna Hilary a smart mouth manager and said it was not within the scope of the new estimate. They are sloppy and careless. They removed and pruned trees from my neighbor's home and left branches on my yard and broke my vinyl fence. Instead of replacing or, at minimal, properly fixing my fence, they used tyrap and bolted( without my permission!) the pickets. I would never use them for any sort of work. I've had the opportunity to use Monster Tree at my business property on two occasions. Once was in response to storm damage and the second was some preventative work. Both experiences were fantastic and I couldn't be more pleased with their credentials, price, professionalism and performance. Credentials- one of the most important aspects of inviting a contractor onto your property is first making sure they have all the proper insurance and at sufficient levels. In my quote gathering process I had other companies boast about "being the cheapest" only to find out why when asking them to produce proof of coverage. They without fail either got evasive on this issue or tried taking the conversation back to "what a great deal they were giving me". Sure... How great will the deal be when I'm paying for an injury to their employee or any damages. Monster was the only company to take it upon themselves to show me that they were a responsible contractor in this important area and gave me proof without my even asking. Tree work is dangerous! Never fail to make sure you're protected by the Contractor's insurance. Price- Monster's price was not the cheapest nor most expensive. They did negotiate with me a little but did not go down to the level of some of the other quotes. However, right from the beginning I saw and felt that I was dealing with a company that takes their business very seriously and had my complete satisfaction in mind. Which brings me to my last point... Professionalism- from my first call to them I could tell they were different from those I spoke to prior. Very professional on the phone not wasting my time with trying to sell a job over the phone. I had others give me numbers on the phone, never actually seeing the job. To me that meant they were either quoting me high straight away or would show up and then jack-up their prices on the job. No such thing with Monster. The Field Rep was on time, professional in appearance and presentation. He took the time to ask me all the relevant questions and made sure to very thoroughly explain to me exactly what they would do and why (perhaps a little more time devoted to the details than I really needed but I chalked it up to a guy who was really passionate about their work and it excited him). In the end, he made sure that my expectations met exactly what they would do for the price. At job time (both) they were on time, sent a professional looking crew with very nice equipment . No junk, oil-leaking equipment or guys that looked like they just got picked up on some corner for day labor and handed a chainsaw. You could tell these guys were experienced and trained and took pride in representing their company well. The crew was fast about their work but safe. I knew enough about what I was watching to know that while they were definitely working at a speed aimed at efficiency, they showed great attention to safety. Their high level of professionalism was very apparent. In both instances they left the property cleaner than they found it. They actually blew off and raked the entire lawn and over the property line to a neighboring business. When they took to grinding down a stump they spread and raked in grass seed for no extra charge. Some quotes I got had that as a line item charge for as much as $150!!! While not the cheapest (tree work is not a place to take chances with cheap) they were very competitive in price. They did exactly what they said they'd do and more. They followed up with me to make sure I was pleased. They made me feel so comfortable about doing business with them that I'll be paying a little extra for them to cross the river into NJ to do some much needed trimming at my home. They also asked that I recommend them if I felt they deserved it. They absolutely do, so here it is! If you need tree work then you should absolutely be calling Monster Tree! read more

The reasons I gave 3.5 out of five stars was because they caused some minor damage to the lawn and pavers that where on the perimeter of a stone driveway. This could have been avoided by just driving the stump grinder on stone driveway instead of cutting across grass. Also, they didn't want to honor a lower previous quote for a fifth tree removal. The reason I was given was that the estimator was giving out incorrect estimates and should have charged more. To be fair all their employees where pleasant and with the exception of some lawn damage where professional and very efficient. Bottom line I would hire them again and recommend to others. read more

Arborist wrote my proposal. They were the only service willing to do the work out of 5. I stupidly convinced myself that this guy knew that the work could be done even though the others said no can do. When the crew finally arrived, they told me proposed work would kill the tree. Should have listened to other arborists....that's my bad. This company's actual tree crew are their BEST and MOST COMPETENT staff. Thank you for saving my 100 yr old+ Copper Beech Tree!! Office staff and Sales Manager don't seem to understand that they work in a service industry. Your call is a bother to them. They say they match competitors bids, but that isn't true (granted, the bid I referenced was the lowest I had received). I can't speak to the quality of Monster's tree work, but looking at most of the other reviews, I'm sure it's just fine. My problem is with their marketing practices, and, as one of the other reviews says "Bair's does a good job, and is cheaper'. I can confirm that....I got several quotes from tree companies to remove a large tree in my yard, keeping Monster until last because their web site (and numerous coupons I've received over the years, that arrive in those Mailer packs that everyone gets in their mailbox) stated that they'll beat any other written estimate by 10%. So I knew that the price I'd pay would be 10% lower than the best written quote I'd received (which was from Bair's).....right ? ....guess what ? Monster's guy said 'No'. They couldn't do it for that number. ! I was completely taken by surprise. I was stunned and just stared at him for several seconds before reminding him of his company's 10% lower "commitment". Nope. No joy. 'We can't do it for that price' was what he kept saying. After I posted a negative review online, mentioning that they'd reneged on the 10% offer, I got a phone msg from Adam, Monster's Sales manager, asking me to call back to discuss what I'd written. I appreciated that, so I returned his call. He was very polite, but stressed that they can't, and won't compete against quotes from "two guys driving around in a truck, with a bottle of whisky"...yes really. So my advice is GO WITH BAIR'S. Their guys (three of them, not just two !), did a nice job. On time. Quick, safe, efficient, and they cleaned up the brush/mess very nicely. They charged me $$hundreds less than Monster's quote, and as far as I could tell, were not in possession of any whisky at the time. read more

I hired Monster Tree Service to come out to my property and remove a number of dead or dying shrubs and bushes that were left over from the previous owners. Max was incredibly knowledgeable - he was able to name almost every bush and plant I pointed out, even though at the time he came to give me an estimate, they were nothing more than sticks growing out of the ground. He gave me a very reasonable estimate and I put the work off for a few months before having them come out and complete the job. There were only two issues we had with the work that was done. 1) When they first came out, they neglected to grind out about 4 or 5 roots. I wasn't sure if they ran out of time for that day and were going to come back another day, but I took pictures of what was missed and emailed them to Max. He said that the job had been submitted as complete, so he drew up another work order to send them back out. I think they came back out within a couple of weeks. The delay was no problem, as it had snowed in between and we weren't really looking to plant anything yet anyways. But... 2) When they did return to grind out the missed roots, they left a mess. There was one bed near my barn that had a gigantic rhododendron growing between a garage door and barn doors. It appeared they had to remove some of the bedding liners to grind the root out, which was fine, but they tossed them right in front of the garage door, and left them there. I just found this kind of odd and irritating. Why wouldn't they at least toss them back onto the bed? Any logical person would assume that a car is being parked in the garage, why would you leave something in the way? With that said, they did leave my property somewhat of a mess after having been there both times. There were tire tracks everywhere and mud all over my driveway. I, myself, was not necessarily annoyed by this, nor did I know I should be annoyed by this, but my husband was. He used to work in tree surgery, fence, and currently works in construction, and apparently there is this saying in the industry where you at least attempt to leave a property in the condition you found it. I'm not sure what they could have done for some things like muddy tire tracks on the driveway, but he was not pleased with the mess left. And the bit about the bed liner pieces in front of the garage? He said it was almost as if they were annoyed they had to come back out and finish the job. He said that never should have happened. He said the standard is to treat someone's property as if it were your own. He didn't feel like that happened here. All in all, I don't think they did a terrible job; I would probably hire them again if needed. They were priced fairly and Max was great to deal with. But just be prepared to do some cleanup after the job is done. read more
