Phil's Firewood Delivers in Philly! I recently put in a modest order for firewood from Phil's to get ahead of the brutal cold and snowstorm. It arrived in time, three large bags, but it was flawed from the beginning, thoroughly soaked and dirty and, worse I couldn't get it to burn in my wood stove. I assumed it was dug up in haste from a bog and unfortunately made its way to my doorstep. I shared this situation with Phil via text; he said he would check it out personally, but he was swamped with orders pending the arriving storm. I assumed I would not hear back--a typical contractor's ploy in Philly--but then did several days after the snowstorm, Phil offering three bags as replacement and an additional one as compensation. I said one bag of firewood was enough, you have a business to run without giving away free material, and, besides, three bags would be a form of punishment for an honest mistake. This was a total joke. Called for a price for a cord and kindling put into my backyard of my CC home of 40 years which I get every year. Right from my back door into my yard. No parking issue at all I get 5 texts!! My address, a picture of my home, back yard, HOW MANY STEPS from the street. Then the next day...can we drop just the kindling off tomorrow and schedule the wood for another day! Then another text that "Phil is still figuring out a number and will get back to you soon"!!! Their pricing on their web site is a joke. Called my regular wood delivery guys and the next day got everything delivered for $250 stacked. Wow.... Now that is what I call "Genuine" customer service. I found Phils firewood on yelp I called and got his voice mail that gave the option to text him, "other business owners take note, it's 2013 and so many consumers find it much easier to text while multi tasking" Phil delivered on the weekend at a time that suited me & I even had to change the time & he had no problems at all with that..... Phil arrived within moments of his scheduled delivery time, carried the firewood up a huge flight of steps and out into my yard and then even took a good 15 minutes to give me tips on how to build a great fire in my new fire pit.... The only down side is he is cash only I'd say his buisness would be perfect if he took cards (maybe a Square up card reader on your iphone Phil?) My experience with Phil's firewood was great. Phil is a really nice guy and you can tell that he's goes the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. I sought Phil's service when I was looking for firewood in the Philadelphia area. I have never sought firewood on craigslist or from any friends, but I am familiar with the size of firewood bunches at grocery stores. For $50 (Price as of 10/9/11), Phil will bring 2 IKEA blue bags full of well cured firewood to your front door; he'll even carry it to your fireplace. I would estimate the 2 Ikea bags to be equivalent to about 5 or 6 grocery store bundles. His wood is definitely better quality. The firewood pieces are pretty large, but manageable in an average fireplace. Pros: -Friendly service -Quality wood -Home Delivery Cons: -There were a few bugs in my bags of wood (nothing serious) -Price seemed a little high (but not terrible considering his fuel costs) Overall, I had a great experience with Phil and will definitely do business again when I need more wood!! read more

What a fantastic service! I needed wood for my new fire pit and found Phil online...He delivers right to your door (So convenient) and even carried it through my house into my back yard! Order 4 or more bags and it's $20 a bag. He brings the wood over in Ikea bags he lets you keep. I bought wood from home depot for $8 a bundle... it was expensive, small and the whole bundle burned in 3 hours! JUST burned Phil's wood last night- What a difference! Lasted much longer, nice size logs and worth the money. I would highly suggest buying the 4 or more bags for $20 (That's a deal) He also takes credit cards! Couldn't say enough about this service, and I could go on for awhile about how stupid I feel for buying the bags from the market... but I'll keep it brief and bullet pointed. - Called on Monday to check his evening availability. - Half an hour later her called me back and scheduled a 6-7 window on Wednesday. - Texted me at 6:30 to let me know he'd be here in 10 minutes. - Showed up at the door with four perfectly packed IKEA bags of firewood (they're like blocks) and a smaller bag of kindling for 80 dollars. (Note: the kindling is actually just smaller logs... not what I was expecting, but basically just more wood) - Carried it into my place and stacked one bag, while stacking the other three, but leaving the wood in the bags after asking me what I'd prefer. - Chatted for a minute and he he asked if I had any questions, which I didn't, then he was on his way. - Fire burning 2 mins later. The wood is great and burns well. 1 log is probably equal to 3-4 of the kiln-dried "hot sticks" you get at the market, so it's not just the volume that's great, it's the quality. Goodbye, to all those guys from the burbs that used to rip me off and charge extra for firewood delivery is there was a hint of snow of the ground. Phil was personable, his prices fair and super convenient for mid sized deliveries in the city. The firewood comes neatly delivered in reusable ikea bags and contains ~2.5 cubic feet which is approximately 3.5 times the amount of those plastics wrapped wood packs you'd buy at lowes/home depot. While the price is pretty much a wash if you compare apples to apples, Phil's wood burns slower and lasts much longer, as it's naturally dried and not kiln dried like the Lowes wood. With the delivery, and overall convenience, I'll definitely be recommending Phil for all of my firewood needs. read more

I liked everything about my experience with Phil. I ordered the wood by text message on a Saturday and he was able to deliver on Thursday night. I bought the 6 bags and paid cash so I also got a bag of kindling. Phil and his guy came right on time and even though there was a lot of snow on the ground they put the wood on the back porch. I have had the wood for a couple of weeks now and it's high quality wood that burns very well. It might be a little cheaper to buy wood by the cord or half cord but I found this super convenient and it's definitely the best quality of wood I have ever gotten. HARD-TO-BEAT PRICES, AWESOME CUSTOMER SERVICE, GREAT FIREWOOD!!! What more could you ask for?!?!? How about DOOR-TO-DOOR DELIVERY and FREE REUSABLE IKEA BAGS! Phil's also really courteous and punctual, that kind of reliable service is hard to find in any industry now-a-days but, not a Phil's Firewood. My experience with Phil, if you haven't noticed already, was great. I needed at least a 1/4 cord of wood for a 3 day, 2 night camping trip with just me and my dog in South Eastern PA in the middle of a COLD November week. Firewood was an absolute necessity since we would be sheltered only by a 3-season tent. I searched the internet and called over a half dozen businesses who either said I need to buy a full cord or just would not deliver to my area. By luck, I saw Phil's Yelp review and hoped that Phil could help. My trip was Wen, Thurs and Fri; I called Phil Monday night at about 9-9:30 P.M., got a response within 15-20 minutes and we were on for a delivery for the following night. Phil arrived early for the delivery (definitely not a bad thing, actually impressed that he found my location so easily), loaded 5 HUGE Ikea bags of wood for $100 and he THREW IN a FREE BAG of wood just because he didn't have any kindling (he didn't have to do that). I got a $120 order for only $100 with delivery included, you're crazy if you didn't just go "WOW". In my case, the next best price to Phil's would have been a local landscaping company that asked for about $300 for a cord of wood with delivery but, I would have to unload the truck one-piece-of-wood at a time. I could have gone the super market route but, if you do the math, you have to buy about 5-6 packs of supermarket wood (going by weight) for about $6 a piece (around my area) to equal just one of Phil's huge bag of wood. So $30-$36 supermarket Vs. $20 Phil. Also supermarket wood is generally kiln dried and that might be good for a really hot but FAST BURNING fire but, Phil's naturally seasoned (dried) wood is much better for camping and keeping a fire going throughout the night. My choice was very clear and simple for firewood and yours should be too. Choose Phil's Firewood and save money!!! read more
