Kudos to Montaco for saving us a trip to leave The Stage to find food last night. I wasn't all too hungry but my boyfriend was, so I ordered the Mexi Dawg. It was pretty good except the bun to dog ratio was a bit much. But the toppings (bacon, some type of salsa, and jalapeno) with a creamy sauce were a perfect mix. My boyfriend ordered the steak taco which he devoured - claimed it was delicious. We shared the cheese quesadilla, which was cheesy and definitely hit the spot. I really, really liked Montaco, but I can't justify anything more than 3-stars because of their prices. Tacos range in the $3 - $4.50 range, with the fish and shrimp tacos being the most expensive. Sides (Mexican corn, mango with chile and lime) run around $2 - $4. Drinks are about $3, if you get one of their tempting homemade concoctions (hibiscus iced tea, mint limeade). I rarely complain that good food isn't worth the price, but I just won't pay $20 to have lunch out of a truck. I decided to make the walk across Downtown to Bayfront Park to check out Montaco after a friend raved about the lunch she just had there. A little taken aback by the prices, I decided to splurge since everything sounded fantastic. I opted for one of the fish tacos, the Mexican corn, the mango slices with chile and lime, and a mint limeade to wash it down. The taco was actually a decent size, but with only one tortilla, it quickly fell apart while I was eating it. The corn was great - topped with crema, a little spice, and cotija cheese - mmm. The mango was a great way to end - on a sweet note (but with a kick). I think it's great that Montaco has come down from NY to spend the winter in the sunshine, but if they want to win repeat customers, they should consider bringing their prices down. read more

Welcome to Miami Montaco!!! I had the pleasure of running into you at the Tamiami meet-up tonight and was drawn to your pinkness and lights. I saw you on the list of attendees for the evening and hadn't heard of you before. You are very friendly and smiley which is much appreciated. When I looked over your menu it was clear you don't serve an ordinary taco. The ingredients looked fresh and I would say quite healthy as far as food trucks go. I decided to try the Shrimp taco and it was delicious. The shrimp were big, juicy and flavorful. I wasn't sure how they were prepared but was very glad to see they looked sauteed, not fried. The ingredients went together well, the avocado was perfectly ripe and I was even surprised with some chopped radish. All in all and excellent gourmet taco. The price of $4.50 is a little steep but for the quality it was worth it. I hope to try your fresh juices, salads and quesadillas before you head back up north to the Hamptons, hopefully you plan on sticking around for a while! PS - I heart NY. read more

I ate at Montaco during my first visit to BTTR about 2 weeks ago and when I went to review it was yet to be listed so.....well I forgot what I ordered but do remember it wasn't memorable. Oxymoron, I know but it's true. The service was friendly and it pains me to write an "Meh" review because I do really love the color purple on their truck so much so that every time I'm at a rally I am drawn close to the truck only to remember that I wasn't too thrilled the first time around and the prices aren't cheap enough for me to venture another try. Maybe there will be a day when another food taco truck's line is too long or I'll just come across the purple beauty and by chance be hungry and I'll give it another go. read more

We checked out Montaco at the Tuesday BTTR. I think the prices have gone down since other reviews on here as the tacos were only $2.50 each which I thought was pretty good. I tried the steak taco and a shrimp taco. The steak taco was a little bit tough, probably overcooked and did not have too much flavor. The shrimp taco however was amazing. I would say that it was even better than the famous Jefe's fish taco! I would definitely check this truck out again to see what else they have going on, but based on the average of the two tacos it is 3 stars for now. read more

OMG YUM! I just had 2 shrimp tacos at Montaco and I could probably eat about 4 more. I'm not kidding. They are absolutely delicious. Probably one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The shrimp is perfectly plump and juicy, it's got an awesome creamy sauce, avocado and tomatoes on a corn tortilla. So good. I also tried the fish taco and the beener. Both were tasty, but I think the shrimp really stands out as the winner. Sorry Andrew Zimmern (he singled out Montaco's fish taco on "The Best Thing I Ever Ate at the beach" on a new episode of the Food Network show.) Tacos are cheap too $2.00 - $2.50 a taco, but keep in mind that they aren't that big. Montaco, please don't go back to NY! read more

Montaco...is the best memory I have from 2011's Art Basel in Miami! I still dream of their Fish Tacos and the Mexican Coca-Cola! The staff is super friendly and the food comes out of Grandma's kitchen. Whenever you see the Magenta truck around, make sure to stop. You are in for a trip. I loved the Beaner taco!! I don't always go for the veggie option, as in, never, but this taco shares my nickname. I had to order it, right? It was absolutely beany. Absolutely avocado-y. Absolutely cheesy! I wanted to go back and order more, but there were a ton of other trucks and the line was starting to build-up. Now, let me move onto the Mexican corn. Corny-in-a-good-way, cheesy, spicy, cobbyness. May I have 10 of these Mexican-corn-cobs-of-delight to take home, please! The pico de gallo was damn good too. I considered Montaco my Go-to truck for my taco fix ever since- however, tonight was my last time purchasing from them. Apparently, the brunette woman that collects the money and takes the orders feels entitled to add on an extra $1.00 to the total for every purchase. How do I know this? Because when she did it the first time, I gave her the benefit of the doubt as a miscalculation, but the second time around she did the same exact thing to me and the person in front of me- that speaks volumes.
