We have never touched a fly fishing rod in our life and Kyle was an exceptional guide for us newbies! We have been wanting to get into fly fishing but wanted to try it with a guide before we invested in the gear. Long story short, we had an unforgettable experience and we will be buying our own gear! Kyle was patient and taught us so much during our half day trip. He also provided water for us in the boat to ensure we stayed hydrated. The Madison River just outside of Bozeman was beautiful surrounded by mountains. Overall, it is worth the money. Don't be scared if you've never been fly fishing before! I was recently on a float trip down the Yellowstone River with Montana Anglers. The weather changed during the middle of the trip and it started to rain heavily with thunder and lightning. The guide had no clue as to what to do except to keep fishing. Being out on the water in a metal boat holding a rod is more than tempting fate. It is a lack of knowledge of basic safety practices. When the trip was over, my guide asked me to exit the boat on an unstable rocky prominence, in the pouring rain. I slipped backwards, landing on a large boulder shattering my ribs. After a trip to Bozeman General Hospital, I called Brian Mcgeehan, the owner of the company to discuss my experience. He was totally uncaring and his only reply was "that's fishing". No Brian, that is not just fishing that is neglience. If I would have landed 2 inches to the right, I would have shattered my spine and would have been permanently paralyzed. Both guides on my trip said the owner only cares about the money that he is making. They did not have kind things to say about him. Now, neither do I. There are many other tour operators serving this area. You would be wise to pick anyone else! read more

We had to work around the June '22 historic flooding, and our guides Ben and Jared worked hard to give us the best possible fishing opportunity. Wow! What a great experience! We were lucky to end up with Ben for a group trip. My 11 year old son and I had never been fly fishing before, so instead of just hitting the river, Ben expertly and patiently spent the time to get him dialed into everything he needed to know and sure enough, he caught a fish on the first cast! He is just as much "teacher" and "coach" as he is "guide." Ben was extremely friendly and very knowledgeable, even on a river he didn't guide as often. He engaged with my son, making what could be a long day, very interesting and fun. He took the time and energy to drag the boat up a tributary and have us disembark in an area that he had a "feeling" about, and after a short but pleasant walk up the stream we did, indeed, hook the catch of the day (see photo) from the whole group! I can't recommend Ben enough. Although he was the perfect guide for a family of newbies, I'm 100% sure he would be just as great for an angler of many years' experience. Finally, his very friendly canine boat companion "Remmy" kept us entertained by chasing rocks thrown in the river and generally just keeping us company. Thanks Ben, and Montana Angler for a once in a lifetime experience. We are "hooked" (haha) on fly fishing and next time we come up, we'll be asking for Ben to help us out again. read more

Montana Anglers Fly Fishing guide service was great. I have been fly fishing Southwest Montana for over a decade every summer. I really wanted a guide that could help me become a better fly fisherman ... so not only did that person need to be a great guide ... they needed to be a strong teacher as well. Our guide Dario was excellent: great guide, teacher, communicator, and person. We loved the day! Not only did we catch trout floating the Madison but we also frequently stepped off the boat and spent time wading and honing my water reading skills, fly casting, mending, and hook-setting. I think we taught a (fisher)man to fish better. It was great and hopefully, we'll do it again soon! read more

What a fantastic way for my husband and son to start out our vacation and first time in Montana. I can't speak highly enough about the experience of booking a trip and then fishing for two days with Montana Angler. Hank responded quickly to my emails during the planning and booking stage and then we adjusted the plans based on our wishes and the weather conditions -- cold and blustery. My fantasy was crisp, sunny October dry fly fishing but nature gave us crisp, cloudy, bug-less, windy nymph and streamer fishing which turned out to be a blast.
