My husband had a huge porterhouse steak (we brought half home), perfectly seasoned and cooked! I had fettuccine with chicken, excellent, on the light side, not a heavy cream sauce. We ate in the Historic bar side. Our server/ waiter/ bartender was very attentive, great guy and told us the History of the place, which is fun when you go to a place built in the late 1800's. Very cool place with beautiful wood cabinets and tile flooring; the bar has been open since 1908. Draft beers were tasty and cheap; only$4! Went on a Wednesday night, in town for work and was the only lady in the room...a little awkward as everyone looked. Bartender was awesome, and dispatched the two drunks that were bothering me. Montana Bar is clearly a classic, a gorgeous well preserved throwback to an era gone by. Walking into this time warp, you're greeted with an array of animal heads on the walls, original and gorgeous tiled floors and tin ceiling and an authentic long stand up bar (brought in via steam boat along the Missouri River as the story goes). Indeed the only things reminding you that you're still in the 21st century are the two TVs and the digital juke box. Everything else in the bar, from the horse hide U-booths to the glass partitioned entrance complete with bullet hole serve to remind you of Montana's wild western past. The service was prompt on this quiet Sunday night and the drinks were poured and mixed perfectly. There are many different beers on tap. We ordered wings which were large and plump and doused in tasty sticky sauce, as well as fried cheese curds and fried chicken gizzards. The cheese curds were great...as you would expect deep fried cheese to be. The gizzards were not my thing however I'm told the locals like them. All in all the food was decent if unremarkable bar bites, the drinks were top notch, and the bar itself was about as cool as you'll find anywhere - without even trying to be. read more

My wife and I were in town on vacation , asked the campground host wheres a great place to get a sandwich and a cold beer, he says Montana bar is a must. We weren't disappointed my wife got the grilled chicken sandwich I got the stuffed burger , stuffed with mushrooms , onions and jalapeños . I got the chicken gizzards as a side my wife had the jalapeño poppers they were both outstanding . The gizzards we tender and so delicious . The staff was friendly and the place was very clean. We needed a late dinner in Miles City. There aren't that many choices. We drove around "downtown" for a bit and mostly saw bars without any windows. We picked Montana Bar & Steakhouse because it was open and didn't look scary. We walked into the restaurant and were informed that they were closed but the kitchen was open and we could eat in the adjoining bar. From the outside it looks like these are two totally different businesses but apparently they are really one. The bar is pretty cool, with what I am assuming are original (historic) pressed tin ceilings, an enormous built in bar, and old timey gold cash register. Our waitress was nice but couldn't describe a beer I asked about. Montana Bar serves basic American traditional food, what I would expect in Almost Middle of Nowhere Montana. I had grilled chicken and coleslaw for dinner, while my boyfriend had steak and a couple different sides. The chicken was better than expected and my boyfriend thought the coleslaw might be homemade. The menu states that their steaks are from cows raised in eastern Montana, so that's cool. I don't remember my boyfriend's judgement of his meal but he cleaned his plates. The only weird thing was that when we were getting in the truck the waitress came running out after us. I had accidentally taken the merchant instead of guest copy of the receipt. The guest copy I left did not have the tip written in but still had the full amount including tip written at the bottom so she would have known I didn't skip her tip. I've accidentally taken the wrong receipt copy before but never been chased down by wait staff ever in my life. Maybe it's a small town thing. read more
