Lake Pend Oreille Cruises - Informative maps handed to us through out the cruise presentation

Review for the Lake History Cruise, 1-2:30pm on July 2, 2020. They also have other cruise options…read moresuch as the Birds of Prey Cruise (June-Sept.), Island & Eagle Watching Tour (Spring & Fall), Full Moon Dessert Cruise (June-Sept.) and Sunset Dessert & Eagle Watching Cruise. This was a nice cruise around Lake Pond Oreille & I learned a lot of history about the area. Linda was a great "first mate" and tour narrator. Kimberly did an excellent job as "second mate," providing many detailed maps and info sheets/pictures through out the cruise. Our captain (AJ was his name I think) was a good driver and didn't make anyone lose their lunch. Everyone was very attentive and always checking in to see if we needed anything. We learned about submarines used by the US Navy on this lake, ice age facts, geology and so much more! Booking online was smooth as was the check-in at the boat. Seating was plentiful and if you chose to sit on the top (open air, chilly 52 degrees) they offered you a blanket. There is a bathroom on board in case you have to go. They also serve snacks and drinks (soda, beer, wine, cocktails) and have apparel available for purchase as well. TIPS: - Arrive 15-20 minutes before the cruise is scheduled to depart and you'll have prime choice of seating (approx. 10-12 chairs) - Bring your camera (& binoculars if you have some) because we saw bald eagles and other beautiful sites. - If you're a tipper, you may tip online at the time of booking or bring cash to tip afterwards. - If you bring your kids, they can have a chance to sit in the captains chair and drive the boat (the little boy on our cruise even got his own captain certificate!). Lake History Cruise - Ticket Prices: Adult (Ages 13-59): $25 Child (Ages 3-12): $18 Toddler (Ages 2 and under): Free Senior (Ages 60+): $23 Thanks for the enjoyable cruise and for making us feel very welcome in Sandpoint. We'll definitely be recommending this to others who visit.

We arrived at the Cruise Shack about an hour early and couldn't find a parking place. We went around the lot 8 or 9 times without finding a parking spot (the Cruise company doesn't have any designated parking for its guests). As we decided to leave, my wife called the company and asked to be rescheduled or refunded and they answer was no. They told her to go park about a mile away and walk. She said that I was disabled and couldn't walk that far in the 85 degree heat (she is also a disabled vet). They then said to drop me off and then go find a parking place. She said she couldn't walk that far either. The person on the phone said well I don't know what to do for you. About 35 minutes later we get a call from the Cruise company and asked if we were coming. It was the same guy who basically just told us too bad. My wife said we just had a 10 minute conversation with you about not being able to find parking and so we left to go home. The guy said well there's a parking place right out front right now. My wife said thanks and hung up. Both people were on speakerphone for me while I was driving. Don't expect to get any satisfaction if something goes wrong with your reservation and don't expect to find parking unless you are willing to drive around for quite a while or walk a mile. Fortunately, our credit card company is refunding the charge.

Some places grab your soul from the moment you pull off the highway -- Kootenai Falls is exactly…read moreone of them. I rolled through here expecting a nice view, and got full-on nature theatre. The hike isn't brutal -- about half-a-mile from the road to the bridge or viewpoint, with picnic tables and restrooms at the lot. Enough challenge to feel good, not so much that it kills your afternoon. The trail that leads upstream to the main falls is short but dramatic: water rushing over rock terraces, multiple drops, including a 30-foot fall seen from the overlook. Downstream you cross that swinging bridge -- it creaks, it sways above the green Kootenai water, and it gives you a rush just standing there. Accessible but wild feeling: old railroad overpass, rocky descent sections, metal stairs, forest canopy, birds, moss -- all the good stuff. I went there in early summer; the river was high, mist in air, sun breaking through trees. The light hits the falls just right at golden hour -- reflections everywhere, water sparkle, shadows dancing. Ambience is pure Montana: no loud crowds, mostly locals, forest smells, river roar, the rustle of pine needles. Parking isn't fancy, but it's clean; restrooms are basic. Picnic area shaded, with enough space to sit, eat, soak it all in. Final take: 5 stars, no doubt. Probably one of those places I'll revisit again and again just to feel that rushing water, that bridge sway, that "whoa" moment when you turn the corner and see the falls looming. If you're in this part of Montana -- don't pass it by.

Kootenai falls and the suspension bridge are the perfect hike for everyone and I mean everyone!…read moreWhether you are not in the best of shape or you are traveling with kids or you have your dog with you, not only can you do this trail but you will thoroughly enjoy it. This is one of the best experiences I have had during my travels and I recommend it to everyone. We spent hours here enjoying the beauty of nature. The walk is gorgeous, The falls are gorgeous, the suspension bridge is fun and exciting! And when I say anyone can do this, the lady in front of was by herself with two children...she literally had a newborn baby strapped to her and was pushing a stroller for her toddler and they made it over the suspension bridge and all the way back up. The only caveat is that there are some steps which are definitely not dog friendly. They are kind of a twisted metal with spikes that is probably great for traction and melting snow, but would be very difficult on a dog's paw pads, so if you have a dog with you you will have to carry them down some stairs. However, we encountered multiple people with large dogs, so unless that's a problem for you, for some reason you can still do this hike with your large dog. Our dog is small so it was a breeze. Another thing you will see a lot of on this hike is smiling faces. This is a genuinely beautiful place where people are just really happy. I could not recommend this more highly and even if you're not super close, it is worth the drive.
