I have been to Montauk many times but it has been many years since I've taken a ride to the Point . We decided to check it out this past summer . The location is beautiful with a gorgeous view of the lighthouse! Besides the lighthouse and museum there are several trails you can enjoy that take you down to the water . It's a state park so senior citizens do not have to pay for parking !

Montauk Point is located in the State Park of the same name--it's the easternmost tip of Long Island and also of New York State. It's located on the South Fork and is quite a nice (and long) drive from NYC. Lots of people come here to surf fish, but there's also nature hiking trails that you can explore. The beaches here are all rocky, so no laying on this beach for a tan!

Correction: Originally posted as Camp Hero State Park, changed to Montauk Point State Park While we had entered near the lighthouse entrance we walked down to the rocky side of the beach by the south side of the hill by the lighthouse. To enter this part where the parking lot to the lighthouse parking is 8 dollars at the State park stand. Of to the right side of the gate to the lighthouse are some paths that lead down the rocky portion of the beach. This path is obviously slightly downhill but the opening at the end will lead you just to the top of where the rocks lie which ranch in size from about half a foot to a food in diamter. Be careful if you plan on walking down to the shore since the rocks tend to be loose and you could loose your balance. As you approach the beach the rocks tend to become smaller until you get to the where the water breaks on the beach the rocks at this point are tiny pebbles. From here you are bascally at the bottom of the cliffs in an opening between the higher cliffs just to the south of the lighthouse and the shorter cliffs at the lighthouse. This is a nice spot to get some photos of the cliffs, the lighthouse and the beach.

Good morning Friends! Wow I find myself giving 5 stars Thinking of Montauk Point and the lighthouse this morning. I worked and lived in Montauk I am proud and honored to share this beautiful part of Long Island and New York with the hard working Folks who dare to live here year round. My hat's off to you. Love of course the Lighthouse, The snack shop & The nice lady in the booth at the parking lot such a sweetheart. The beautiful hiking trails and beaches has it all! Highly recommended. For everyone's safety, Please obey the ridiculously low park speed limit. Roy Rogers used to say... Happy trails to you! JIM D.

A great place to visit to see the very end of Long Island. Take a path down to the rocky coast and enjoy the beautiful ocean scenery. Do a walk along the breakers and watch the waves come in and splash on the boulders. If you still have energy, you can climb the lighthouse for even better views. It is a beautiful park and a must see when visiting Montauk. Parking is $8 unless you have a State Park Pass. Admission to the lighthouse is another $10.

Labor Day Weekend 2021 - Everything is open!…read more I came on a whim of intuition, with tent in tow, that my 3.5 he drive from the city might, just might result in a walk-up campsite for one or two nights. At first I was turned away because I was too late- all the available sites had been given away before 3pm. However, I stayed curious and asked some extra questions about how the walk-up system worked in the event I would try again the next day. To my luck, the park attendant said to come back in a couple hours because I might get lucky with some later call backs... and 4:30pm lucky I got!!! I did have a backup plan- that I would head to Wildwood on North Fork which had plenty of availability if I couldn't get a spot at Hither Hills. Everything was open- even the kitchen making egg sandwiches and salads in the General Store. Lifeguards on the beach. Beach stand selling alcohol. Showers and restrooms all open, and very clean. I stayed in the A section of the campground, which has the most sand on the lots, and backs up to the dunes, which was exactly what I wanted/needed. The campsites don't have electric, but there is a water spout in the middle of some sections. The bathrooms are never too far and the showers are clean. There are some electrical outlets in the bathroom for things like hair dryer and electric razor, or for me, charging a battery pack while I shower, brush my teeth, and do my hair. The beach on this weekend was pristine and perfect. Despite hurricane Ira moving through only days earlier, after the storm, the beach at Hither Hills had barely any debris or carnage and just smooth waves and perfect weather for a long holiday weekend. I didn't bother bringing a cooler or camp stove because I was just one person and there are plenty of restaurants and bars and cafes around to visit by car during the day- and that's part of the fun for me (and every yelper?!?)- exploring local food options! I also really enjoyed visiting the East Hampton library to pick up some free books, get WiFi connected, and recharge phone battery during the day. You definitely won't find a cheaper stay in the Hamptons or Montauk unless you're invited to someone's beach house!!

Genie helped us check in and was INCREDIBLE. She was so kind and friendly and helped us get…read moresituated once we arrived. We were new to the campground and she helped us with how to set up our fire as well. She really made our whole experience 100x better. Thank you Genie!! -J12
