When we first enrolled with British Swim School, we were extremely pleased. The instructors were knowledgeable, patient, and consistent, and our child progressed quickly. We had complete confidence in the program and would have gladly given it a five-star review. Unfortunately, our experience has changed dramatically. The pool where we attended lessons experienced ongoing issues that resulted in most classes being canceled throughout December. While this was frustrating, we understood that it was beyond British Swim School's control. We remained loyal customers because we believed in the program and were very happy with the instructors. Since then, however, there has been an almost complete turnover of instructors. Nearly every time we attend a lesson, there is someone new teaching the class. The consistency that is so critical to learning proper swimming technique has disappeared. Instead of continuing to improve, my child has actually regressed. Skills that had been developed through months of quality instruction have deteriorated because each instructor teaches differently and there has been no continuity. Rather than reinforcing good technique and building on previous lessons, the constant changes have undermined the progress she had already made. What is most disappointing is that I reached out to British Swim School multiple times to discuss these concerns and requested a call from a member of the management team. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up. Our experience went from a program that I would have enthusiastically recommended to one that I can no longer recommend. It's disappointing to see what was once an excellent program decline so significantly in just a few months.

Parking can be limited and the pool is on the 4th floor so you want to give yourself plenty of time. Classes start promptly as scheduled. Downside: pool is colder than most. Not great for little ones. I have told by many that it's the xchange management who refuses to keep it at a warmer temperature. Also the cost for swim lessons is on the more expensive side. Each of my boys has benefitted from their training with Sensei Mac in ways that every parent would want to have their child learn. Sensei Mac has given them the confidence and strength of character that they would not have had, if they were not exposed to his tutelage and the experiences the Kimura Shukokai Karate has exposed them to. While there may be other places in and near Pearl River, NY that teach martial arts, none can come close to providing the opportunity that is afforded by this internationally affiliated community that feels like family. Sensei Mac has developed many World Champions, of which my older son became one in 2012. Yet, I treasure that achievement less than the extended family attachment that my children have found in the Pearl River, NY dojo. Evans would have said: dy-no-mite! So, if you're not ready to become a member, you'll feel a warm welcome when you attend the jaw droppingly low-cost hatha yoga classes; the Love Offerings, which include meditations and talks; the fun dances, artistic events, and workshops; and the delicious Sunday lunches (entree, juice, and dessert). If you're looking for a more immersive and spiritual experience, I can attest that becoming a member (receiving my mantra) has made a significant and transformational difference in all aspects of my life. For those of you with practical concerns: my elderly relative (83) recently joined and told me that it has helped with her insomnia, too. (This place is for young and old; children meditate and there are hatha yoga classes for kids on Sundays, too.) This time, I took class with Amber, and she is truly a 10 out of 10 -- from her character to her teaching style, choreography, and ability to educate dancers in real time. She doesn't just teach steps; she teaches movement vocabulary and helps you understand how to inhabit the choreography as it unfolds. That presence and clarity make the experience special. A lot of what I enjoy about Sass Class comes down to both the choreographers and the energy of the space. That said, there are some practical considerations. There is no elevator, which can be challenging because of the number of stairs you have to go up and down. The studio itself is small but functional. There's a small waiting area, a check-in desk, two bathrooms, and a spot to quickly change if needed. There are two studios, which allows classes to run smoothly without feeling crowded. The location is central, not far from Moynihan Train Hall or Port Authority, and there are plenty of food options nearby for before or after class. Overall, SASS Class continues to be a space I value. I fully intend to take more classes there in the future. For me, it's about the quality of instruction, the intentionality of the movement, and the community -- and that keeps drawing me back.
