In addition, they have assisted living plus a number of levels of care up to end of life. They can provide medication to residents, ostomy care, catheter care, bathing, dressing, toileting, housekeeping, escorts by wheel chair to dining and throughout the facility. If you need a medical bed or wheelchair they can help coordinate. If you need to move they have a liaison that would work with your to help bring furniture to their place for design. And also helping thin out belongings . Optional. You can eat in your room. Staff has 24 hour care and shifts with RNs, CNs, LPNs, mgmt director social worker, sales, care coordinator. The facility has indoor parking, handicap too, there is security with locked doors so people cannot get in after a certain hour . There are cameras. There is restaurant quality restaurants, a number of places to eat, depending on if you are assisted living or independent living. And there is a gorgeous rooftop spacious area with loungers and chairs and outdoor furniture with a gorgeous view of downtown Chicago if you want a cocktail. The rooftop is open but w a ceiling. And then there is a facility up top where you can also rent if you have a party. Wall to wall windows. And there's a bar area. There is a large movie theater. There is a beauty salon and they do massages. There is a physical therapy room and physical therapists can work with you depending on your needs. Medicare coordinated. There is a church nearby and walking distance. There are a ton of activities listed on the wall that are going on every single day. They are posted also in the elevator. And you can receive a copy. Every assisted living resident wears alert necklaces around their neck and when you press it, it sends a message to the staff or the nurse in short order to come to your room if there's something urgent or an escort needed. This is not skilled nursing, but it has a lot of features in the plus care category that would meet the needs of most people in their golden years. If you are flat on your back and convalescing, you probably should be in skilled nursing. But that is not the energy or aura of American House. It's a breath of fresh air with senior living to end of life. There's absolutely nothing American House couldn't provide to probably 99% of people. I was very impressed. There is also a grocery store being built across the street. There's parking in front of the building that it's very spacious. If you have to unload a wheelchair. The front door is automatic. It's a building that takes up a full block. It is clean, and the residents are very friendly, and the staff is very friendly. The price point is appropriate and will not break the bank. There are tailored approaches. And it's in Oak Park, which is a lovely community, very diverse w restaurants and parks, and very close to the city. They provide transportation within 8 miles for free. Or rather as part of your monthly rent. This is a month-to-month rental. With a minor down payment. There is also outdoor space in the courtyard and umbrella tables and a bar and a cooking grill. And there's also small gardening with people who may plant vegetables or flowers. The rooms are very modern and comfortable, and there is no stove, but there is a microwave and a sink and stainless steel refrigerator appliances. The rooms are hardwood floors and tall windows. Lots of light. Good views. The windows do not open for safety. The rooms are carpeted. No bath tubs. Walk in showers. And the closet space is huge. The doorways are wide for wheelchairs. You can decorate it the way you like. Utilities are included. You can get a landline separate. But most people have cells. Parking is extra. You are a couple blocks from Rush Hospital. Again great facility. Mary P. is a tremendous asset to American House and is very thorough in her explanations of the offerings of the facility. Subject matter expert, she is great listener. In the assisted living area, some people do put up their names outside their door, but it's like an apartment. And very private. So your doors are not open like a nursing home. And there's a number of areas with televisions and there is a piano, and coffee bar on the first floor. Books to read, games, social schedules. Wonderful, spacious, clean, I give it five stars.

While I could not be present in person due to work obligations, I called in during the assessment to ensure I could provide support. My father answered the nurse's questions to the best of his ability, and there were no indications of issues at that time. Following the assessment, Lisa informed me that an internal review would be conducted. Today, after sending a brief follow-up text to Lisa, I received a call from your Assistant Director. During this call, I was shocked by the tone and manner in which I was addressed. I was told, in a very agitated and dismissive way, that my father would be better suited for another facility, with no further explanation. When I pressed politely for clarification, I was refused any details, spoken to in a disrespectful and aggressive manner, and ultimately hung up on. This behavior is unacceptable from any staff member, let alone someone in a leadership position. My questions were reasonable: I simply wanted to understand why there had been a sudden change after positive earlier interactions. Instead, I was treated with hostility and given no professional courtesy. I am deeply concerned that the treatment my father and I received may have been influenced by bias. As an African American family, it is difficult not to draw this conclusion when no substantive explanation was provided for such abrupt and disrespectful behavior. While I understand if their team ultimately determines that Brookdale Oak Park is not the right fit for my father, there is no justification for unprofessional and dismissive treatment. Families seeking care for their loved ones deserve transparent communication, respect, and courtesy.

A few years ago I grew increasingly worried about my mom's safety at home and started to…read morecontemplate senior and assisted living options and dreading having the tough conversation with her. My mom was averse to anything that had the word senior in it already. A serious health event accelerated my plans and I had no choice, but to force the decision and move her to Brookdale. Much of the up front decision-making was done by me. Of the options in the area, I preferred the layout, amenities and that there were both independent and assisted living options. I had tons of questions and they answered all of them, they also visited my mom in the hospital to talk about Brookdale and introduce themselves. My mom didn't like being there, to say she was downright disagreeable her first few weeks is being generous. Over time she slowly adjusted. When Covid hit, I was terrified and relieved all at once. Terrified because senior living communities were getting hit hard, relieved because I knew there would people to help her no matter what. They had strict protocols and regular updates, which I'm sure every family member greatly appreciated. When we had issues getting PPE for her medical condition, they were able to help us out. They even had staff on hand that could facilitate virtual meetings. Not seeing her for months at a time was hard, but they did their best. Over time, my mom came to adore members of the staff and they were saying great things about her (even though I knew she could be quite difficult). I'm not going to dress it up, senior living isn't cheap and assisted living is stupid expensive. Seriously, like make you nauseous every time you get the bill expensive. That said, the peace of mind knowing that she was safe and looked after was priceless. Even as my mom's health declined and she moved into hospice (they do that too), the staff was kind, compassionate, and informative.

When my mom moved in, she required a great deal of patience and support in her new environment. She received that support from the talented team and management. She was welcomed and offered as much or as little support and engagement as would make her feel comfortable. I do not have a concern that hasn't been addressed by this wonderful team of caretakers who have come alongside me in navigating how best to serve my mom at this time of her life. The facilities are clean and well cared for. The Staff has looked out for my mom and for me. They have been such a blessing. I am grateful for everyone at Plum Creek!
