They took over a giant covered outdoor area with a ton of picnic tables, clean and open and perfect for a large party (I assume they had to rent this). I've been to a lot of parks over the years, and most of them don't have comparable event spaces. The one disadvantage was that we were far away from the playground, much to the chagrin of my three-year-old, who kept demanding to leave the party in favor of the play structure he saw in the distance. Liberty Park is just a huge place with several different zones. We even switched parking lots once we got there and figured out where the actual party was, on the Camp Liberty side of the park. The party was really nice, pleasant and relaxing. We had lunch, watched the dohl ceremonies (he grabbed the stethoscope, securing his future as a doctor), took pictures, and hung out with family. Then, because I'm not a monster, I took my boy to the playground. It was a great playground, well maintained and pretty quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Fewer kids, in fact, than teenagers working out and playing loud music nearby. I'm not complaining. In fact, my child was fascinated by their music and got as much entertainment from their speakers as he did from the play structure. I don't live anywhere near Cerritos, but if I did, I'd make good use of Liberty Park. What a lovely neighborhood resource, for both special events and everyday recreation.

Been coming for the last three months and I see the same players all the time. Only downside of playing pickleball here is that the courts close at like 8pm-8:30pm which is actually atrocious. I forget exactly. When I run to the restroom from the tennis/pickleball area, which looks exactly like your average park restroom. I see people on the playground and other pickleball courts (3 in the middle) (2 on side). The track is crowded too! The parking does get full in the evening so you may need to park on the street.

We loved the sports facilities too, basketball courts, baseball/softball fields, and even a wading pool area in warmer months. It's a great mix of active and chill areas, so every member of the family can have a good time. There are picnic tables, shaded spots, and BBQ areas where you can hang out for hours, and the neighborhood feels peaceful and safe. The 84-acre park has been serving the community for almost 50 years, providing tennis courts, a skatepark, playgrounds, exercise equipment, public pool, indoor courts, 2 fishing lakes, basketball courts, BBQ/picnic areas & the Cerritos Sports Complex. For my recollection, my first acquaintance with Don Knabe Park came by way of participating in the Annual Youth Fishing Derby. Kids are given the opportunity to compete with other registrants to catch the largest catfish. Bait is provided, and fishing tackle is first come, first served basis. As a teenager, I became more interested in fishing, and tried my hand at largemouth bass fishing w/ lures. On my first outing, a caught a decent-sized bass. I've seen much larger sized bass caught, too. The CA Dept. of Fish & Game stocks the lakes with rainbow trout (colder months) & channel catfish (warmer months). For trout, I've been lucky using small spoons, while catfish is simply bait & wait with smelly bait of choice. For such a large park, the parking is absolutely free! Which, along with proximity, is why I frequent Don Knabe Park over others. One complaint I have, is there can be duck & other waterfowl landmines (aka poop) all over the concrete walkways next to the lakes, if the groundskeepers aren't timely at keeping up with the power washing to clear the walkways out. Cerritos' own Central Park, Don Knabe Community Regional Park is an out of doors haven, for those looking to increase their daily steps, play their sport of choice, or wet a line and see if the fish are biting. It's a great resource which I take full advantage of, and hope to continue visiting for many more years to come. Highly recommend!

We did our Cub Scout bridging here and it worked out perfectly! A playground, sitting area, water, and bathroom near by, along with enough room to have all of our events spread out without impeding any else's experience. From the spacious grounds, plentiful play areas, and even a dog run area, this park has it all. Today, Easter Sunday 2026, our group of 40 has been having a blast since this morning. The area is clean and well kept, with city workers on site doing light work in the background. Many families are enjoying picnics with one another, sharing dishes, and having a blast looking for Easter eggs. Just as we did last year, we engaged with a neighboring family for a fun game of volleyball. This has been great! There is plenty of parking available in the lot, with several spots being designated for handicap parking. No stairs or steps are needed to access the park and there is an abundance of street parking, as well. For being an outdoor enjoyment area the sound level has not gone above mid and the grounds are well kept and clean. I look forward to our annual picnic for next year, already! xx

One thing to know before you go: check the operating hours. The garden was closing at 1:00 that day, so our visit was shorter than we would have liked. About 15 minutes before closing they started rounding everyone up, which was completely understandable, but next time I'd definitely book earlier. We brought Billy's mom and dad with us, and his father is 92 amazing years old, so we're always paying attention to how much walking, stress, parking drama, or general nonsense an outing involves. This one was about as easy as it gets. There's paid parking right next to the garden. I think we paid around $6.50, and the payment system was simple enough. Once you're inside, it's just beautiful. Little bridges, waterfalls, colorful koi everywhere (bonus! tons of baby koi this time!) lilies on the pond, flowers, and these bright red dragonflies flying around that completely caught my attention. There were families, students, people sketching, people feeding the fish, just a really nice mix of people quietly enjoying the space. What I especially like is that you don't have to make a whole production out of it. You can stroll, sit for a while, watch the koi, cross a bridge, look at the water, and just enjoy being somewhere pretty. Small, peaceful, easy, and genuinely lovely. It makes for a really nice family outing, and it's one of those places that's good to keep in your back pocket when you want to do something without committing to an entire day.

There's a short 1/4-mile loop if you just want a quick stroll, plus a 1-mile loop that can turn into about a 2-mile walk if you keep going and loop back around. There is one incline area, but it's short and not too bad. Plenty of benches are scattered throughout too, which makes it great for slower walks or taking breaks. The park itself has a really pleasant nature feel. You'll see squirrels, turtles, birds and other little wildlife moments along the way. The turtle dock is always fun to spot and the shaded paths make the whole walk feel relaxing instead of draining. Most people on the trails are friendly too, so the vibe is usually calm and welcoming. The Nature Center trails themselves are free if you walk or bike in, but there is a vehicle fee if you park in the Nature Center/East Regional Park lot. Parking is currently $6 on weekdays, $7 on Fridays, $8 on weekends and $9 on holidays. The entry booth is cashless, so bring a card or use a digital payment option. Parking can look packed at times, but I've always been able to find a spot. They also offer annual parking passes, including discounted ones for seniors 50+, disabled visitors and veterans, so it's worth asking at the Nature Center Visitors Center if you plan to come often. The Nature Centre comprises of 105 acres in the East Regional portion, and has 2 miles of dirt trails and 1/4 mile paved trail with an indoor visitor center (located on an island near the entrance). My wife, her mom, and I visited on a beautiful Thursday afternoon and we really enjoyed it. The land prior to 1964 was used as flat farmland. In the late 60's, major excavation was done, creating two small ponds connected by a stream, all fed by a groundwater well. It now is the home to varied wildlife, with the most visible being turtles. They love to sun themselves on wooden floating platforms, and the water is clear enough to see them swimming underwater near the walking path bridges. There are three walking trails: 1. quarter mile paved loop, good for strollers 2. 1 mile dirt loop 3. a longer 2 mile loop, sharing some parts of the previous. Everything is well maintained. Three things I appreciated: not too many ducks and geese around, thus no visible droppings along the path; plenty of varied bench seating to rest or observe during the walk; lack of biting insects. The center is open 6 days a week (closed on Mondays). Admission to the center is free, but parking is $6 - $8 per vehicle, payable at entry (credit cards only, no cash accepted). One can buy an annual parking pass (good at both El Dorado East and West parking areas). To incentivize myself to come here more often, decided to buy one for $43 (senior discount), minus the $7 already paid for the one time fee.
