Long known as Cerritos Regional Park, the park was renamed Don Knabe Community Regional Park November 30, 2016, in honor of former Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe. The 84-acre park has been serving the community for almost 50 years, providing tennis courts, a skatepark, playgrounds, exercise equipment, public pool, indoor courts, 2 fishing lakes, basketball courts, BBQ/picnic areas & the Cerritos Sports Complex. For my recollection, my first acquaintance with Don Knabe Park came by way of participating in the Annual Youth Fishing Derby. Kids are given the opportunity to compete with other registrants to catch the largest catfish. Bait is provided, and fishing tackle is first come, first served basis. As a teenager, I became more interested in fishing, and tried my hand at largemouth bass fishing w/ lures. On my first outing, a caught a decent-sized bass. I've seen much larger sized bass caught, too. The CA Dept. of Fish & Game stocks the lakes with rainbow trout (colder months) & channel catfish (warmer months). For trout, I've been lucky using small spoons, while catfish is simply bait & wait with smelly bait of choice. For such a large park, the parking is absolutely free! Which, along with proximity, is why I frequent Don Knabe Park over others. One complaint I have, is there can be duck & other waterfowl landmines (aka poop) all over the concrete walkways next to the lakes, if the groundskeepers aren't timely at keeping up with the power washing to clear the walkways out. Cerritos' own Central Park, Don Knabe Community Regional Park is an out of doors haven, for those looking to increase their daily steps, play their sport of choice, or wet a line and see if the fish are biting. It's a great resource which I take full advantage of, and hope to continue visiting for many more years to come. Highly recommend! read more

A large park with all of the standard amenities plus a lot more. I saw folk fishing, there's a large sports complex area, and so much open area for whatever event you're looking to hold. We did our Cub Scout bridging here and it worked out perfectly! A playground, sitting area, water, and bathroom near by, along with enough room to have all of our events spread out without impeding any else's experience. In all this is a really nice park, and I'm certain we'll be back in the future. :) read more

Every year the Pulmonary Hypertension Association sponsors a walk, which, highlights its impact and support it provides to many living with the disease. It provides a safe space and welcoming environment, while offering a sense of community for those in need. This year's turnout was amazing as individuals shared their personal experiences and spoke of the importance of PHA and how being a part of this association has changed their lives. Pulmonary Hypertension is a condition where the blood pressure in the arteries, which carries blood from the heart to the lungs becomes too high. The work this association has and continues to do is remarkable, which is why I will continue to be a supporter. If you know anyone with this disease, I would encourage you to share this association with them. read more

This park is really nice and definitely one of the bigger parks around you can tell right away how spacious it is. It's also very well maintained, and everything feels clean, which makes the whole experience even better. If you're into hooping, this is a solid spot. They've got two basketball courts, and overall it's a really nice place to just come through, play, and hang out. Overall, a clean, well-kept park with plenty of space and good courts definitely worth checking out. read more

I would not recommend walking around Don Knabe Park ESPECIALLY if you are visiting with dogs. The pavements are caked with bird droppings. It will get trapped between the furs between the paws, nail beds, and transfer to car seats. They are challenging to clean even with gloves, proper cleaning products like paw cleaning sprays and paper towels. But if you don't clean them, everything inside the car will have traces of bird droppings which is a nightmare all on its own. They are laden with ear and eye infections causing germs both for dogs and humans. Not to mention the very sight of watching my dog attempting to lick the literal s*it off made my stomach churn. I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with just that on a Sunday afternoon. I was hysterical by the time I gave up and returned to my vehicle afterwards. It was the most disgusting dog walk I have had in a long time. My first review post got taken down for calling bird droppings as something what most would call it -- bird s*it. I s*it you not. I hope the park maintenance team can pressure wash the pavement and also have better avian control in the near future. Birds carry many communicable diseases and having that much bird feces everywhere is a great way to cause public health problems. read more

There was a small section by the lake with bird poop, but everywhere else was nice and clean. There were a few big groups of people holding their own events. They also have a fenced off pool. Huge park with beautiful views and pools of water. Great for walks, runs, and having a picnic. There tends to be a lot of geese poop by the big pond, so I try to avoid running in that area, but I do notice that it gets cleaned. Lots of options for seating from grass to benches. Plenty of parking. There is a lot of space for family events, though I believe if you want to reserve, you have to be a Cerritos resident. One of my favorite parks in the area! read more

Fantastic park with plenty to do. I mainly go for a full walk around the entire park complex which comes out to approximately 2 miles. The park also offers basketball courts, tennis and pickle ball courts, baseball fields, a skatepark, pool, beautiful pond with cute geese and ducks scattered all over. I added a few updates to my previous review. This quiet community park features a central lake perfect for fishing, remote-controlled boats, relaxation, and more. It's a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Most recently, I've come to walk the trails and get a simple workout at one of the two outdoor gyms. These gyms use your body weight for resistance, which is excellent for all fitness levels. This park has a lot to offer. * Sports Fields and tennis courts * Swimming Pool (open during Summer hours) * Fishing with trout and catfish stocking, depending on the season. Family fishing events are also available once or twice a year. * Indoor and outdoor basketball courts * Skate park (free to use) * Tennis Pro Shop and Lessons * Pickleball courts are available through reservation only * Picnic areas, some of which are covered * Jungle Gyms for the kids * Annual fairs and events for the community * Pokemon stops and gyms * Plenty of parking on most days. Events and sports days can make it challenging Quick facts: * One loop jogging around the park is approx. 1.5 miles (based on my GPS) * Picnic areas are first come, first served, or must be reserved through the park website for the covered lots. * Security patrols the park. * Coyote Creek Bikeway is adjacent to the park and goes to Seal Beach. * A variety of ducks, geese, and other feathered friends tend to take over some of the park. I often come here to walk around or play tennis... I remember before it was renamed to Don Knabe. The tennis courts are usually busy unless you come during off times (either very early morning on weekdays) or later in the evening (sometimes as late as 7-8PM). Sometimes they are also reserved and it's pretty hard to get a court. But, when you do - it's a good place to play tennis. The tennis courts are also next to the small skate park and I've seen people actually using it a few times. My mom likes walking around the park and I accompany her at times. She complains that there's a lot of geese dropping on the ground and I agree - they're scary, too! I get nervous sometimes when there's a ton of them and I have to walk pass them. Sometimes after dinner, I also come with a friend to walk around and help digest our food - or when we feel like we've had too much and need to burn off some calories. The stationary exercise equipment are also nice to use if they're free. Overall, a nice park with plenty of space to roam around. The geese are scary at times, but there are paths that avoid them, so not too big of a deal. The park could be cleaner (geese dropping as well as trash sometimes), but it's not too bad. read more

Beautiful and spacious park; however, my review is solely based on their pickleball courts. This was the second time we've played at these courts (invited by a friend who is a member). We came during the "open play hours", checked in and paid a $10 drop-in fee at the office for the "challenge courts" side, which has 5 courts. There are also more courts on the "grand stand" side as well, but I'm assuming those courts are rented out and reserved by the members. The first time I ever went to this park was to meet a couple friends a couple years ago. That time, the park was very dirty. The pond was disgusting and there were animal droppings everywhere. I went again very recently a couple weeks ago for a Pokémon Go event and the park was spotless! I haven't utilized the bathrooms yet so no comment on that. Parking is very spacious. There are so many different lots to choose from but I've been very lucky both times parking at the main lot which is alongside Bloomfield Ave. read more

7/15/23 Just happened to come by because my brother has a booth here at Don Knabe Park for the Philippine American Friendship Day celebration. This park is Ginormous! The last time I was here was eons ago, when we first emigrated to the US. There's a lake from where we entered & parked. We passed by two swimming pools. The grass is well maintained. I have to admit, it was not an organized event. My brother says that each booth advertised on social media but the whole event was not fully presented/-hey, I didn't even hear about it until my brother mentioned it. This is one of my favorite parks to come to for walks because it is so large and spacious. Walking the entire perimeter of the park is a mile and a half so I know exactly what distance I'm walking and how long it takes, as well as the steps I'm getting in. Additionally, the park is very clean and well kept, I don't see a lot of trash or anything similar when I come here and I really appreciate that. The groundskeepers here must do an excellent job of keeping everything in check. I love the little areas they have too with equipment for working out as well as the benches posted around the park. One of my favorite things to do is come here after a long day and sit on a bench to clear my head and relax after a walk. It's a great way to decompress. read more

This lake/park is really nice and peaceful. I came here to fish and relax my mind and that did not fail me even though I didn't catch any fish. When fishing we have to be careful and mindful of the people walking around us. There's multiple walkways, but for some reason some folks like to walk right behind or in front of you while you fish. There is an abundance of ducks and geese here so be prepared for them and their poo surrounding the lake sidewalk. Other than that, it was peaceful and relaxing. read more

There was bird poop everywhere. So gross. I will never go there again. I had to come home and give my dog a bath.

Even with vaccinations going on around the nation, it will still take a while for everything to return to normal whatever the new normal will be. Times have been tough over the past year, and going through these trying times just hasn't been easy. Then again, what has been? But you know what? Just forget about COVID-19. Forget about the stay-at-home order. Forget about that one time you had to cancel your annual family gathering to celebrate what should have been a special occasion for a loved one. Take a moment to relax. Take some time to get to know Don Knabe...or at least the community regional park named after him. Don Knabe Community Regional Park is located on the east side of Bloomfield between 195th and Del Amo; the park is just north of Target and the Cerritos Sports Complex. The park is so vast with walking trails that shoot off in multiple directions. There's also a fishing lake in the middle of the park, and you can see ducks swimming in there sometimes. However, you'll also find a handful of ducks on the grass/sidewalk surrounding the lake. As tempting as it may be to want to play with these ducks, I usually leave them alone (you never know when one could rear its ugly head!), but I have seen a handful of bread crumbs lying around; I've also seen a ton of filth on the sidewalk adjacent to the water. Still, it's pretty cool to get an up close and personal view of these ducks at this park; you probably wouldn't be able to get that close at a zoo unless it's a petting zoo. Families and friends gather at the park to just chill, relax, and have a good time. There are a couple of outdoor basketball courts as well as a swimming pool on the west side of the park. There are a few playgrounds for the kiddos situated around the park. There's also a mini amphitheater if you want to rehearse some Shakespeare in front of a small crowd. Feel free to toss a football or a baseball around or to kick a soccer ball around. Just be careful if you're close to the lake because on my last visit, I witnessed a soccer ball roll right into the water! :O However, the ball was slowly but surely making its way to the other side of the lake, and I believe (but didn't actually see) the kids got their ball back. In summary, you'll feel a pretty good sense of normalcy here at the park, though maybe a little too good since on my last visit, I did see a handful of park-goers without masks. Still, it's a wonderful place to visit if you want to meet up with friends you haven't seen in who knows how long. read more

*This review is for the Don Knable Community pool only. THIS community pool IS RUN BY POOL NAZIS! Well, they're not really actual Nazi's, but the rules are EXTREMELY strict here. I came here with my husband and 7 year old. 1. We brought my son's pool noodle, intertube, and kickboard. BUT, they said we were not allowed to bring those swimming supplies in. We couldn't even bring in his lifevest either because they said it was not safe. Not safe?? Okayyyy....that does not make sense at all! DO NOT BRING YOUR KIDS HERE IF YOUR KIDS WANT TO BRING THEIR SWIMMING STUFF. 2. Next, I change my clothes in the locker room and try to bring out my pool bag, which contains my towel and sunblock. But they tell me I cannot bring my bag or towel out with me to set near the pool. In addition, I cannot wear my flip flops out near the pool. It was freakin 95 degrees that day and they expect me to walk on the super hot concrete! seriously! 3. In the pool, I wanted to practice my son's swimming with his fins. Staff said no fins in the pool whatsoever. So I asked them if goggles were ok. MIraculously- they said goggles were ok. 4. My son wanted to ride on my back while swimming. Guess what? Staff said no too! 5. Lastly, I wanted to check out the diving board in the deep side of the pool. I was about the get on, but staff said I have to pass a swim test first and get a wrist band if I can use the diving pass. To pass the test, I would have to swim from 1 side of the pool and swim back to the other side. I mean, SERIOUSLY folks! I have to pass a stupid test to use the diving board on the deep end. Never in my life in all the pools I've been to has anyone ever made me to take a test to qualify to swim. Might I also add that the staff constantly follow you around the pool, watching your every move in what you're doing. I felt stalked and very uncomfortable being watched like that. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE to go if you want to go to a swimming pool. I know me and my family are never coming back again for sure. Please go to another pool if you want to actually have fun, bring your children's swim toys, and not be constantly watched by staff. read more

One of my favorite regional parks. With over 50 acres for recreational use. This park has something for everyone to enjoy: Lake with fishing permitted 50-meter outdoor swimming pool open in summer Exercise stations Gymnasium Multipurpose room Tennis courts Basketball courts Picnic shelters Picnic tables There is plenty of free parking. The wide walkways and sidewalks makes it an ideal spot for joggers. This park has been my most frequented destination during this whole pandemic. I did my reading here for graduate school. Additionally, I did my outdoor workouts, short jogs, afternoon walks, and even came here to enjoy my take-out order and beverages. There is always plenty of space, even on weekends, in the grassy areas so social distancing is not generally a concern. Plus, most people are good about wearing their masks at this park. Centrally located in Cerritos, lots of trees for shade and a huge lake pond filled with fish, ducks and geese. I enjoy coming to this park. Just be careful not to step in the geese poop. read more

I've lived very close to this park for the last 15 years and have come here countess times. This is a great place to spend part your day relaxing. There are tennis courts (although it does get busy at times), a skate park, base ball diamonds, and workout equipment. There's also a pool too but it doesn't open until summer. This is a great place for jogging since the park has a pretty big perimeter. If you're looking for a place for picnics, this is definitely a good find. They have places you can book too if you have a party. The reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars are as follows. Near the pond, there's a lot of duck droppings. There could definitely be improvement on keeping that clean. Some of the parking lots are in need of pavement maintenance. Other than that, it's a great place for the whole family. Added bonus. Such a cute park to visit! We stopped by this park at around 4pm and enjoyed a nice picnic and had the chance to watch the beautiful sunset. The park is extremely large and kept clean with plenty of parking available. There's benches available, a workout area and fountains that light up at night. We setup a picnic near the lake and enjoyed the beautiful view. I noticed that there was plenty of grass space with people hanging out at a safe distance. Surprisingly the park was not busy and I appreciated seeing everyone wear there face masks. There was about 30 ducks all grouped together, some in the lake and others eating warms in the grass. It was all very entertaining to watch and I plan on returning back to feed the ducks some bread and to explore the other half of the park. read more

Once upon a time, the need to be outside was more than a craving, but a desperation. After spending way too many hours cooped up in offices, Don Knabe Park was a most welcome respite. The many winding sidewalk trails make this a lovely park. The community is out and about here! The space offers a sports complex and many softball and baseball fields. We used this park as our starting base to ride the Coyote Creek bike trail to Seal Beach. There's plenty of free parking but little shade in the area to keep the cars cool. The only drawback are the non existent signs that show which way anything is located including the entrance to the bike trail. read more
