Huge clean park. There is pool here and wading pool. I only visited wading pool. This one in particular is open daily from 11 am-4pm during summer. There is seating area directly above the area of wading pool and trees with shade. There's enough room for parents. This is a great place to visit during summer for free and kids will enjoy. There is a bathroom right next to this area. It was clean. Recommend coming in evening during summer to enjoy playgrounds. read more

This is my favorite park to run or walk at in the mornings. It's always clean, peaceful, and almost empty during the week, which makes it the perfect place to start the day. Parking is always easy, and I love the area it's in. I usually come with my sister, but honestly, I'd have no problem coming alone because the vibe is just that chill. This review is for the splash pad, which is very cute and fun BUT none of the rules are enforced. Which makes it a tiny bit awkward, especially when it's crowded, which it often is. They are very punctual with the hours and seem to test the water regularly. They will close the pool if the water isn't safe for the kids, so that's nice. Not a chill hang for any parent supervising, but the kids might have fun. read more

Awesome and beautiful park in the city of Lakewood. They offer free pickleball courts here. Schedule is MWF 9-11am and TTh 6-8pm. Friendly people and courts come with balls and paddles if you need them. Will definitely come back to play! read more

The pool was great. The prices are a bit high compared to other pools in the Long Beach/Lakewood area. They charge more if you are not a Lakewood resident - and be ready to prove your residency if you are so you can get the cheaper rate with a Lakewood address on your ID or on a bill. The problem we found was when we arrived half an hour before the end of a swim session. We paid for about 20 min of pool time before everyone must leave the pool and pay AGAIN for the second session. We spoke with the manager and we were told their signs explained this. I've added photos of all the signs posted in the front and only found an "entry fee". Be aware the entry fee is actually a SESSION FEE. The staff does not explain this to you no matter what time you show up. So either plan your visit accordingly or bring extra cash. POOL REVIEW Mayfair Pool has the most rules of any place I've tried to swim. Rec swim is weird times 1-2:30, 2:45-4:15. No food allowed. No chairs allowed. Hair must be in a ponytail. No splashing. No holding onto someone. No frolicking - not kidding. No pool toys. No going backwards off the diving board. No flips of diving board. I can't remember if floaties are allowed, but they do have a rule that kids under a certain height be accompanied in a 1:1 parent ratio, meaning you can't take 2 young kids to swim at the same time. Price is reasonable. When I grew up, mom packed a cooler and some towels and we swam at our neighborhood pool all day. We all became really strong swimmers and were really active. Trying to do that with my kids is impossible. Whenever we go, the whistle is blowed continually - dad can't splash with kids. Kids can't hold onto parents and swim around for fun. Basically, everyone has to swim without touching or playing and no one is allowed to stay under water for too long (handstands in the water, etc.) Confusingly, we did see a whole family swimming in their regular clothes which made all the rules that much more ridiculous. We can't swim for diving rings, but we can swim in our jean shorts. I hope Lakewood will relax many of these rules to create a more pleasant community pool vibe. I had my daughter's first birthday event in the sierra room here on 9/16/17. The booking process was easy. Went to lakewood city hall, parks and recreations and asked if the desired date was available. They informed me if a lakewood resident had also requested the same date, they would get priority. I ended up paying the non resident fee since the permit holder would have to be the one who stays on site at all times. If the lakewood resident left even for a minute, they would charge me the non resident fee. You pay a fee to secure the date and make the payment for remainder of balance prior to the event date. It was very convenient that they would take card payment over the phone so I didn't have to go in. A week before, I submitted the seating chart and table arrangement to the park and they had it all set up the day of. The facility is definitely older on the inside but I liked how bright and high ceiling's the sierra room was. Though it was smaller in size (accommodates 75 people), it was perfect for my party. The building and bathroom is definitely on the older side. The sierra room cloth wall panels were dirty and noticeable when we first visited. However, during party day, all our different stations and decor distracted our guests and did not take note of the older appearance of the building, dirty walls, tables and chairs. I was not aware that after the event, I had to even mop the floor until 15 mins prior to end time. They're pretty strict and I really wanted to get my security deposit back. The rental rates aren't bad but know the place is on the older side. I would however, come again for another event if need be. read more

What a beautiful outdoor pool! It was well worth the drive from Ling Beach. My grandkids ( 8 & 11) had a great time during the afternoon recreational swim. I absolutely love this park. it Can get crowded, but shelter is a reserve first come basis, only if your a Lakewood resident. they have upgraded their playground, ample parking near the toddler area and on the street. Employees are very helpful, and they come around with black bags for your trash. We have had several Parties here (when its over 50ppl). no parties at the toddler shelter bummer , but that would be great. Kids love coming here. they have a few carnivals throughout the year.Just to name a few Pan-Am, Halloween, Candy lane crafts etc. Candy is cheap I have to say during the halloween carnivals, Paramount Park has better candy :) (just saying) read more

Pool Management should consider retraining for customer service. The kids they have working as lifeguards do not turn to look at you or acknowledge that you are speaking to them--but they are very quick to shout across the way like prison guards when you have the audacity to walk briskly. I am 100% behind safe aquatic practices. As well as teaching children a healthy respect and appreciation for the water. I would think that as employees ( and likely swimmers themselves) they would want to make an aquatic center a place where kids can feel comfortable approaching staff for help. That's if they're not already under water waiting to be saved while the lifeguards stare into the distance. Oh, just a quick note. Things you aren't allowed to do: - run ( by this I mean walk briskly) - splash ( I know, the nerve of some people--with their splashing ) - piggy back or have your swimming partner hold on to you ( while you can both touch the floor) - exit the diving area on the same side as your swimming partner So, if you'd like to stand in water come on in! But don't use the ramp that is also not allowed. read more

I grew up going to Stephen Foster Elementary school, so I grew up with this park. I played softball and volley tennis for years I learned how to swim at Mayfair Pool. As a mom it's been a trip to watch my kids play and run around the same part I used to when I little. It also makes me look at the park little differently-especially now that I have done a lot of comparing to parks all over So Cal, being that I have three small children who love to explore new parks....and often. I think one of the highlights of this park (for those of you out there with young children) is the waiting pool in the summer. It tends to be open more often than the other waiting pools of the other parks. My kids love the sprouting mushroom. I also like that this park has two playgrounds- one for younger kids or toddlers and one for the bigger kids. I also love the pool. They keep it clean. Lastly, for those of you that don't want to swim the whole time (don't blame ya) there's a side area of grass perfect for sunbathing...and for parents, a good place to keep an eye on your little ones. We reserved the Sierra Hall for my son's 2nd birthday. Overall I am a fan of the hall itself, but my rating lost a star due to all the restrictions and complicated process you are required to follow to reserve. I'll start with the room details and will end with the complications. Details: We had the tables set out for 50 and there was plenty of room for play areas for the kids. You are required to send your floorplan to the park two weeks before the party. The room was exactly set-up as I had noted and the staff on site offered to help move anything if needed. Even with all the seating in the center, there was plenty of room for food tables on one end and games on the other. The Sierra room has access to a patio that is shared by another adjacent hall. You may also be able to reserve a kitchen if the other room hasn't already reserved it. We used the patio and it is a large cement area that leads up to a small lawn. The patio is adjacent to the pool, so the patio is surrounded by the building and pool fence, with just a far away an opening toward the park and parking lot. This made us feel safe to have the kids outside because it would be hard for them to run off unnoticed. Complications: You have to go to city hall to reserve. The person on the reservation must be present at the party the entire time - this isn't a big problem unless you need to run to the store to get something. You are not allowed to hang anything on the walls. You are not allowed balloons. There is a very strict timeline to turn in the floorplan, but the floorplan provided does not have any dimensions, so you feel a little in the dark. read more

I grew up playing soccer at Mayfair Park. The Park itself is fairly large with a playground facility, tennis courts, ample parking in multiple lots and a full swimming pool. The park itself is green and open and large enough to accommodate family activities. It host many soccer games during the season and is a great venue to play. The tennis courts are very nice and the pool is kept up very well and makes for a nice option during the hot summer months (although you cannot use floaties which may turn off some with small children). The playground areas are a bit small and lacking (small kids playground & larger kid playground) but both are ample enough, there is also a playground at the elementary school across the street that if open would be good to use. They hold carnivals and boutiques here quite often and are always organized well. I would recommend checking it out if you are in the area. It will not blow you away with it's amenities but is a good park nonetheless. 200th Review!! read more

Have come here off and on throughout the years. They have a pool and a rec. room a couple baseball diamonds and a small water play area that opens during the summer for the small ones. But in the past few years what has brought me back is the Halloween carnival. read more

I had my quinceañera here 26 years ago! Yesterday my close friend had her wedding ceremony and reception in the same banqueting room. It has not changed very much after so many years. Much care has gone over the years to keep up the property. I also appreciated how helpful and friendly the staff were with the audio equipment, loaning us an additional extension chord, and even keeping the bathrooms stocked for our guests. read more

This is a pretty large park with a great playground facility. It's sand (blah), but large enough to accommodate the many kids who are here throughout the day and in the evenings. Especially for toddlers, there's a tot playground area and an older kid playground area. I like them both because they're close enough to the street (but the toddler area is gated off) that you don't have to walk forever to get from your car to the play equipment. There's also swimming lessons and water aerobics held at the pool here, as well as a wading pool for younger kids. Like most parks, it has a community room that can be rented. We recently went to a birthday party here - it's pretty much a typical park community room, although apparently they have very strict rules about decorations, etc. Be forewarned: the older kids here can be rowdy - but they've always been friendly to me and my 18-month-old when I take the time to talk to them. read more

Agh! Of all the parks in Lakewood, I would diagnose Mayfair with Bi-Polar disorder. Sometimes this park is perfect! It has a pool with a separate wading pool that has a giant mushroom, fountain thing and it can be great fun! However, SOMETIMES local daycares and after school programs bring massive amounts of children and leave them fairly unsupervised. Which leads to overcrowding, fights, misuse of equipment and unsanitary behavior. YUCK! The park itself has a gated off toddler section as well as an older kid section next to it...sounds beautiful right? Not really, because SOMETIMES the gated off part of the toddler section is taken over by some parent-run daycare and they will literally stop you at the gate and will not let you in! Also, about 20% of the time at the older kid section, it has been taken over by teenagers, who for some reason are compelled to drop F bombs at a rate of about every 3 words. The bathrooms are disgusting 100% of the time and I have found needles on the floor. I would never make solid plans to come to this park. I would say, "Let's go to A park" and then drive by Mayfair to check out it's condition before committing. If you want a solid park, I would go down South St. a little ways to Liberty Park. read more

Listen, I've recently joined the deep water aerobics class. Never in a million years did I suspect that I would utter these words. I know, I know, but bear with me... I'm not even 40yrs old for crying out loud! Mayfair Pool's water aerobics class is actually a really great work out. I can say with a fair amount of certainty (with the exception of the instructor) that I am the youngest and most fit person in this class, which damn near eliminates the "swimsuit in public" fear. I feel muscle soreness in my upper and lower body, and I never even broke a sweat! In fact, I felt refreshed, and didn't want the class to end... AND I actually look forward to the next time I "get" to work out. I kid you not. read more

I've attended parties at the John Todd Community Center, and the pool is very crowded in the summer. It has a good playground. The quality of the park for picnics is average. The tennis courts are forgettable. This is within walking distance to the Lakewood Mall. read more

This park is less than 10 miles from where I live and from the looks of it it is very clean and vagrant free. It is unfortunate that neighboring cities still have very nice Parks but families like mine feel very unsafe when there are vagrants nearby. Safety is my number one concern when visiting a public park and it appears that this place has all of that plus more. Hopefully this Park remains vagrant free in the future so that I can enjoy with my family. read more

Mayfair park is our go-to park for basketball. They have 3 full courts here and usually have some people playing. It's usually not entirely full, but can be on some weekends. It's popular enough for pickup games and what not. Nice convenient location for 10+ of us to meet at because it's almost in the middle of all of us. Couple issues: rims are double rimmed, so your shots might not bounce your way as you're used to. Secondly, the lights don't seem to turn on at a certain hour. We also can't seem to find out where to do it, if they allow us to control that. Either way, this could be improved. Also the fences around the basketball courts could be higher so the ball doesn't bounce over. Other than basketball, there is tremendous amount of green space for soccer, baseball, and recreation. They also have a baseball field that's fenced off, paved diamond, etc. read more

Probably the best local park i have been to. Has an attraction for every type of person i think. They have an area for soccer, baseball, basketball, a pool, and the best kid playground I have ever seen. Its soo fun, i even play with my niece nephew and daughter. They even have a seperate toddler playground for the smaller kids which is great! I absolutely love this place. The parking is no problem,they have a lot for every side of the park.
