I was overcharged by tens of thousands of dollars over the 3 years I was a client, thinking I was paying for a high-level of service. Instead, they screwed up years of my tax returns, which I had to pay to have re-filed by a different CPA. I was actually owed nearly $100,000 in refunds from the IRS, which I would've never known had I not left JT Hicks and Company. Unfortunately, I referred a good friend of mine to Thomas and his firm years ago and he had a similar experience. We are currently considering our legal options as this is completely unacceptable from a licensed CPA who is someone you should be able to trust. I even paid this firm thousands of dollars to file my personal 2021 tax return, only to find out a year later from the IRS that he never filed the return. A staffer at Rudman Winchell recently posed as a 'concerned neighbor' to interfere in a vote on a town ordinance by writing a letter to the local paper full of misinformation in support of one of the firm's clients, whose interests would be affected by the outcome. This could not have happened without their knowledge. The lies were bad enough, but the concealment backfired. The advice they provided their clients was not effective; public sentiment went against them. The client claimed in public remarks that the staffer had been let go prior to writing the letter but there's no evidence to support that, nor would that make her any less of an associate. But all that pales in comparison with their initial strategy, to push their client's proposal past an ordinance which was clearly meant to prohibit projects over a certain size. They built a house of cards on the existence of a minor wording error. Be warned.
