My daughter started here when she was 2 and a half and stayed up until she got accepted into a kindergarten. This school has amazing teachers that truly built a connection with my daughter and she has reached so many milestones here. Best Montessori in Chula Vista! Enrolled my son and within 2 weeks I noticed how much of a positive effect school was having on him. Miss Yoli is the best director and the teachers are very communicative. The school always does fun themes to celebrate the different months which I find fun for the kids. my toddler son loves going to school everyday and he adores his teachers. My son has learned so much since starting MAS, he sings, his numbers, talks about the president, and is currently learning to write his name he's 4 and started when he was 3 1/2. It's smaller classes as well which was important to me, they're curriculum is also obviously, Montessori based and my son has learned and advanced so much. 11/10 read more

My wife did all the research on Montessori program schools, and out of all the schools we visited, this one, we considered the best. The staff is super friendly and helpful. They answered all our questions and really paid attention to our kids. So we enrolled him! The price is a little steep, but overall it's been worth it. He's been attending since he was three, and at first I wasn't really sure he was learning anything because I would ask him, "What did you learn today?" He always replied "Nothing..." (scratched my head). Then, as we sit at home, he's talking about, "Dad, I want to go to Oregon..." I don't know any one in Oregon what is this kid talking about??? then while pointing them out on a map, he follows with, "I want to go to Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming, Colorado, North Dakota, etc...." Okay, I guess he is learning.... then we started getting his class work and man! I'm blown away by all that he has been learning!!! Which really explains all the stuff he's talking about at home. He loves his teachers, he loves going to school, and he really loves their playground, because he uses it as a standard for when he visits other park playgrounds. He'll say, "My school's playground has this and that and its green and yellow...this one doesn't, my playground is different but better." They have a pretty good system for parents when dropping and picking up kids. You have to sign your name on the sheet, then they take your kid and when you come to pick your child up, you sign it again. As time passes, they even get to know you (the parent) making a more personal experience for not just your kid, but the entire family. Also, if you want, you are able to throw your kid a birthday party for them to share with their classmates. For an additional price they have a music class for kids, which my kid also really likes. They have a movie night, where you can drop your kid off and have date night. Summer programs too!!! They do encourage kids to be potty trained before they attend, but they also help with potty training as well. All in all, this place is great! Enrollment is limited, which is good because they really have a good kid-to-teacher ratio, so your kid will get special attention unlike daycare/school places. We liked it so much, now that my daughter can attend, she will be joining this school next semester!!!! read more

My daughter (she's 8 years old now) and my son (he just turned 4 years old - currently attending) have shown an incredibly positive experience from this school - I'm very thankful to have been able to have my kids attend this school. These teachers are by far the most incredible human beings, that have had the ability to reach to these kids in a way that have them enjoying school, positive vibes and and the results have been amazing. My daughter went in to first grade leaps ahead of other children and my son is incredibly excited e eryday to go back to school - these teachers truly treat them as if they were their own. This review is based on our tour of this school. The director of the school was terrible to us. From the judgmental looks she gave from the moment she opened the gate to let us in, to the way she hovered over my answers as she insisted we fill out an application before even giving us a tour of the school. She had an off putting interest in if me and my husband were married and what our income was... even seeming to question whether my husband was his real dad, continuing to ask my son "where's daddy?" I skipped the portion of the application that asked my child's physician information, who all lived in my household, whether we were married or not, and other very strange questions that was none of their business and shouldn't be required to answer just to be able to tour the facility. The director actually gave me the application back and ask me to fill in the missing information! I politely said I didn't feel comfortable with that and she finally let it go. Me and my husband felt extremely unwelcomed the entire time. When we finally went on the tour, the roof was leaking in several places and the classrooms seemed really uninviting. The director made a point to emphasize multiple different times how tuition goes up every few months as if to try to dissuade us from signing up or assuming we couldn't afford it. It was the main topic of discussion. Needless to say we were happy to end the tour and get out of there. On our way out, we got to meet one of the teachers. She seemed like such a nice and pleasant person I was left wondering how she worded at a school with such a terrible director. I would never go back to this school. read more

My daughter was there for months. She never came around to liking the place. She would cry everyday we would drop her off. After speaking with the head of school Yolanda nothing was ever done. Numerous times we would pick her up with a wet diaper that was breaking apart inside (proof that it is old). She was starving everyday we would pick her up and started to lose weight. Even after I talked to her again nothing was done. Numerous times we asked if the teachers and staff could introduce her to some of the kids because she was very shy they did nothing. We have moved to another place and within a short term she is loving it and is super excited to go every morning. The move was the best thing we did as parents. Their sales pitch sounds great, there previous years info from parents sounded good although the current state of this school is horrible. I would not recommend this school to anyone. Our relationship with Montessori American school started early in 2013 and for ever grateful we will be! Our son Alexander attended this school for 3 years and it was a wonderful experience Miss Alexis was he's teacher and she is loving, sweet and stern when she needs to be:) Alex loves her and we do too, Miss Norma the art teacher it's a natural, she's been teaching art for numerous years and Alexander learned tremendously from her, I love when he came home one day to tell me all about Leonardo Da Vinci knowing so much of him and being excited about he's life as he was talking about Batman. I have debated writing this review, but I feel it needs to be said: this preschool is in it purely for the money. My 2 kids were enrolled here from 2017-2020. While the actual care was fine -- some teachers are more burned out than others -- it was not a place my kids loved going. (Now that they are at another Montessori, they actually LOVE it, and I see they were not getting the love at MAS that they get at their new school.) On top of that, when Covid hit, MAS closed and the Director, Yoli, demanded parents pay full tuition, even though they were not providing any care. When parents came together to say we weren't able to pay if care was not being provided, the Director came back to parents with, "Well, how much can you pay then?" Tasteless and tactless. We then proceeded to try to get our deposit money back for the school year, as our kids wouldn't be returning due to Covid, and we had to go through MAS' corporate owner, Endeavor Schools. I'm writing this so that parents know: this school is owned by a major, multi-million dollar corporation that does not care about anything but their bottom line -- and they are tasteless and tactless, too. My kids are now at another Montessori in Eastlake that is wonderful, family-owned, and cares about creating a loving environment for children. Stay away from MAS. read more

My almost 8 year old daughter attended this school a few years ago... everything was going great until we had a bad experience with the principle that was there at the time... she was horrible. Fast forward a few years my 4 year old daughter attends this school. When she started she was shy, wouldn't talk much and when she tried I couldn't understand what she was saying. Now that she's been attending this school she's not as shy, she speaks way more and I can actually understand. She speaks both english and Spanish, and she has FRIENDS. She's excited about going to school and she LOVES her teachers. I 100% recommend this school now that Yolanda is the principle. The Montessori program is amazing all on its own, but the staff here at MAS make it exceptional! My daughter and I absolutely love her teachers. The entire staff is so kind and organized, I am actually sad I didn't seek them out sooner! I could not ask for a better school for my children. MAS has created a foundation for my children to excel in their educational careers. From the very beginning, I could see how genuine and caring all of the teachers are. They provide a safe and healthy environment for learning and expression. My daughter's transition from Montessori American School to 1st grade was extremely smooth. I have to admit that I was a bit concerned having to transfer her after graduation from private to public school, but MAS prepared her very well for the change of environment, even into the Dual Immersion program. Being a Montessori guide myself, I held all the pre-schools I visited to a higher standard and was not satisfied, let alone, impressed by any of them. Let me tell you, there are a lot of schools that call themselves "Montessori" just because they have Montessori material, but their teachers and directors are not properly trained in the philosophy. MAS guides have years of experience and it shows, not only in the caring and nurturing way they treat children, but in their environment and the work they do. Many family members and friends have had their children attend M.A.S., some of them driving way out of their way just to come here, so I knew that it was something special. And that something is THE STAFF! From the first month my 3 year old attended, the teachers immediately connected with her and with us as a family, and not only her own teachers, the ones from the other classrooms as well. Children learn at their own pace and they learn not only from what the guide presents to them, but also from their peers, that is what is so wonderful about the mixed aged groups in which older children teach and care for the younger ones, and young ones admire and learn from the older. If you are looking for a pre-school for your child, do not think twice about Montessori. I did a lot of research of where I wanted my daughter to start her school journey. I wanted to make sure that the people I pick to help us with her education were truly trustworthy; I'm so thankful that I found this school. We know first hand how the Montessori American School is unique and very special. Each child is greeted by name and with a tussle of the hair or a big friendly hug they are sent on their way to the sweet and friendly playground each morning. Their academic program encourages children to ask questions, use their imaginations, take time and care with their assignments, and to make the most of each day. Both of our sons attend the Montessori American School. They have become very confident in their problem solving abilities and very self-reliant. When I began looking for a preschool for my then 3-year-old son, my brother recommended the Montessori American School. As soon as I stepped foot into the school, the warm welcome and smiles on everyone's faces made me feel at home. As a mom you only want the best for your children and at the Montessori you get it all. My son thrived at the school and was always eager to get to work on his favorite materials. He is now 6 and doing incredibly well in first grade at his new school. My 3-year-old daughter has just started at the Montessori and she can't wait to get to school in the morning and hates to leave. I have so many things to say that I don't know where to start! I am a VERY protective mom who was anxious and nervous about sending my child to preschool for the first time. However, Montessori American School won me over very quickly and allayed all my fears! This preschool/kindergarten is the perfect blend of academics, culture appreciation, and socialization. They foster independence, creativity, and a genuine pride in learning in all of their students. The entire staff is dedicated to guiding each child in discovering and maximizing their strengths while encouraging them to tackle new tasks/learning experiences they may not be familiar with. This staff also provides a very nurturing environment which I was very drawn to and one I had not observed with other schools when I was choosing a school for my daughter (and believe me, I looked!). This year, they have begun to incorporate spanish, art, and music as part of their core curriculum. They even started a new class for non-potty trained 3 yr. olds with a dedicated nanny to help train the kids how to potty. I could not have asked for more & would have enrolled my 3 yr. old son were we not leaving due to a military move! I see the progress my daughter has made in the year she has been there and my husband and I are amazed! She has become a confident, independent, and respectful little lady who loves to learn. She is excited to come home each day and share all she has learned and accomplished! As for tuition, as a previous reviewer mentioned, it is a little pricey. However, if you compare the other tuitions of the other Montessori schools in the San Diego area, Montessori American's tuition is very competitive AND they offer so much more (even beyond what's in print)! This school has won Best Preschool in Chula Vista for several years in a row and it is well-deserved!!! You can't put a price on education and giving your children the best chance at a great start! I can't say enough great things about this school. My son has been attending since he was three and our youngest will start in the Spring. The staff here are just wonderful- extremely loving and attentive. My son just absolutely loves going to school each day. The class structure provides a sense of comfort and my son just seems to thrive in their learning environment. In the three years we've been attending, there has been little to no staff turnover. This has allowed my son to form a very special bond with his teachers. The school also continues to add additional items to their educational program each year, such as yoga, music, art history and Spanish to name a few. My only complaint is we'd wish they offered a program past Kindergarten. It's going to be difficult when my son is ready for 1st grade to locate a school who can top this one! Proud Parent of a current Montessori American School Student. Our 2 year old son just started and at first I wasn't sure if he was ready as we experienced many morning of painful tears for both of us. I was assured to give it some time and if in a couple of weeks we weren't making progress, we'd explore the option he may just not be ready to start school. I love that a genuine concern for my son's overall well-being. It is now been 5 weeks and he LOVES school. There are many days he doesn't want to go home because he is having such a great time. I have noticed his vocabulary growing and he has matured so much in such a short period of time. Let me not forget the staff/teachers... They are AMAZING. It's wonderful to see so many pleased families. I'm glad your children had amazing experiences at this Montessori school. Unfortunately my grandson did not have such a great experience. He attended for about a year. My grandson is 4. He was getting physically shoved and pushed around by a 6 year boy and "nobody" noticed it. My grandson reenacted what the 6 year old was doing; it was a choke hold, while my grandson was facing down on the ground. This happened several times. All the school staff denied any knowledge of this. Until my grandson was absent 2 weeks in a row (he would cry when it came time to go to school) Then after the absences, they called my son and admitted to having knowledge of this. They tried to convince my son to bring my grandson back to the school. I had a serious talk with my son and convinced him not to send my grandson back because the trust was broken. If they had acknowledge and admitted from the beginning and said, "we will handle the situation", I can totally understand that. They denied knowing anything; with the teacher/student ratio, it was impossible that they did not notice this kind of activity happening. They realized they were losing a client and it was the money they cared about, not my grandson. Besides these so called teachers do NOT have the education in Child Development. (Workshops are one thing and a real education is another) On another note, it really bothered me when I picked up my grandson from school there; at times his face was really dirty around his mouth, from lunch; I found it hard to believe that between so many teachers, nobody cared to get a wipe and clean my grandsons face or to hand him a wipe and ask him to clean his face.
