Very weirdly unprofessional way to try and schedule an appointment. They seemed lost. Wrong name too.
    Iska L.

My son is not enrolled in this school, but I do want to share my experience with this preschool nonetheless. We are currently scouting schools to see what may be the right fit for our son and are considering Montessori schools for their philosophy & play based curriculum. Scheduling a tour came off very unprofessional (see screenshot), but I gave them the benefit of the doubt because not all businesses can streamline like a corporation. We scheduled an appointment for a tour, and I showed up to the appointment on time. The staff had no idea why I was there, so I had to explain my entire reasoning for being there. The school itself looks great, and we went over what to expect from the school, but the tour was more of "this is where the bathroom is and the classroom" and not so much of getting to really understand the school. I asked what would be the next step in enrolling & she said to schedule another appointment to have my son and I experience a few minutes of class to see how things are done. Fast forward to the day of the appointment, and the staff yet again had no idea why I was there. The same lady came to greet me again and also had no idea why I was there, so I had to explain to her that we made an appointment last time I saw her. Do they not write down the appointments they make? The lady just said "oh okay well your kid gotta walk." I explained to her that he was a bit fussy this morning and needs a bit of time to warm up before he walks around. This is a new environment that he only briefly experienced once before. He takes a while to warm up, and of course not every child is the same. She kept pressuring me to force him to walk & I kept telling her that he just wasn't ready yet. I thought it was very unreasonable and pretty contradictory to the philosophy of Montessori for her to be pressuring my child when he wouldn't even start school here yet until a few months. We're getting a feel for things - NOT FORCING things. She was very condescending on telling me why he should walk around here. I told her I understand but also, this is a new environment and he was a bit fussy before we got there because I had to take a toy away. He was not crying or anything when we got there but he did want to be held at the time. I did reassure the lady that yes, I get what she's saying but she also has to understand that we can't rush stuff like this. It's not like he's been to preschool before. It's as if this woman does not know that 2 truths can happen at once. She kept telling me "well you need to practice having him walk on his own" as if she knew how I've raised my child with the few minutes I was there. I would respond saying "yes, he does walk on his own in environments that he's been familiar with or if he's in a good mood. He's just not ready to explore yet. It's only been a few minutes." She wouldn't take that for an answer and kept pressuring us as if it wasn't to experience the place in a positive light. It is VERY upsetting to see this behavior from her. We were encouraged to leave and come back later because he wouldn't let me put him down at the moment. Does this woman know that every child is different? Does this woman just ignore what goes around at this school? I could go on, but I shouldn't have to explain x, y & z about how this whole situation is just completely unprofessional from every part of the process. She said to just "come back whenever," and at that moment I knew that they don't ever keep track of anything. I have a feeling that if I ever were to come back, she would completely forget why I'm there again. This is only my experience with this one lady, and I don't expect all the teachers to expect to know why I'm there, just mostly the admin. I can't attest to how the classes are run because clearly this lady wouldn't let us observe because my son wasn't warmed up from the 5 minutes of being there. So unprofessional.

Complimentary coffee but apparently it didn't apply to their location.

The church is fantastic, and the kids program there for during church services is GREAT and this review is ONLY pertaining to the Eastlake Children's Center preschool which is run M-F. I was very eager to enroll my son in this program. I had heard so many amazing things about this program and it was an added bonus that we love our church. I even provided paperwork to this program when my son was approximately 1 year old (they don't take kids until they are 2 but I wanted to ensure we were not waitlisted as I had read that they were such a popular program). My son finally was enrolled this July for the 2024-25 school year. When he started he was fully potty trained. As school started it was clear there was some new school year kinks needing to be worked out regarding organization and teachers. I tried to remain positive and provide grace when a new teacher I had never met would be giving me my child without an ID check. My son immediately had potty accidents. More than when he started training. I thought this was simply because there are no potty's in the classrooms as typical 2 year rooms have at most programs. Assuming it's just a distance to potty adjustment we proceeded on. However, my son started hitting himself and yelling at himself in the potty when he was home saying "YOU GO POTTY IN TOILET NOT POTTY IN PANTS!" then would hit his leg. He's never behaved in this way. It broke my heart. I spoke to Ms. Jeanette at the front about how I think the teachers may be yelling at him and stressing him out about the bathroom here, and it's affecting us at home. They started making me put pullups on him (which we have NEVER done). The accidents never got better. I could never talk to his teacher because his main teacher was only there from 830-12 with him. Because he was a full time kid, I would be picking him up from different random teachers all the time. Some wouldn't even know which kid was mine when I said his name even thought he had been at the school a month at this point. About 2 weeks into school I picked my son up (again from a random teacher I've never met the 2 weeks prior to this) and he had a huge scrape on his forehead, as if he had fallen head first on cement. My son has been in a daycare setting since he was a baby, so I am aware that I should be getting an "ouch report" anytime there is an injury of a child, even if they are unsure how it happened. Once they see an injury, they need to report when that injury was noticed. At his last daycare I would also get a phone call for any head injuries. I got nothing here. However, it's only the 2nd week of school and I just let it go and chalked it up to the new school year situation. New teachers etc. About a week and a half later I picked my son up and he had a scrape on his nose that was bloody and thick. I didn't say anything to the teacher at pick up because when I gave the name of my child I had to point at which child he was for her to know who to give me. (again terrible security and no ID was checked). If she doesn't know my kid by his name, she def doesn't know what happened to his nose. No ouch report. Since I was already waiting to hear back from the director via email regarding my request to meet with her, I decided I would bring it up then. Then, the very next day my son had yet a THIRD scratch on his face with no ouch report. As I walked out I stopped to talk to Ms. Jeanette (I think she's the assistant director?) and I told her this is the 3rd time in 2 weeks my son has bloody marks/scratches on his face with no ouch report. All she said was "yeah you should have an ouch report" and that was it. I was hoping for "well let's contact his teacher and figure out what's happening" or "maybe we can ask the teachers to see if they set it somewhere besides his cubby" or "I will talk to the teachers and figure out what's going on" but she didn't seem to care at all. She took no worry to this. Again, I've had my son in daycare settings for a while, so I am not one of those overly paranoid parents, but the lack of concern for my son's safety, especially regarding facial injuries frequently over a short period was alarming. I immediately pulled him from the program, and reported them to state licensing. My son had been in school there only 1 month. During the time I enrolled him officially in February 2024 until the day I pulled him from the program there were THREE licensing violations- one of which was a teacher physically abusing children and another was a teacher leaving a child alone on the playground! This program used to be the best around. There was a change in the leadership of the preschool a couple years back, and needless to say the program is NOT what it used to be. My husband said that most times he picked our son u

We truly appreciate the collaborative approach that they have with the parents and they encourage our involvement with activities. The teachers are well trained and in tune to not only the cognitive and educational development of the children, but also the social emotional as well, which is something HUGE for me! Our twins have been coming since they were three and it's so heartwarming to see the teachers all love on them and know them by name and share the funny stories about their day to day interactions with our kids with us as if they were members of our own family. Greater still is that OUR kids know the teachers by name--even the ones that aren't even theirs! There's such a beautiful sense of community and care. I'm so heartbroken that we aren't finishing out the year as we are relocating to the east coast come March. But I can't recommend New Hope Preschool enough to parents searching for a loving, nurturing environment where the faculty are skilled in all facets of child development. New Hope is definitely a gem and we will forever remember our experience here and are grateful to have our kids starting experience with education come from such a wonderful place.

I am a huge advocate for childcare programs that help foster both emotional developmental and academic growth, and New Hope does just that . The kiddos work just as hard on their counting and learning to write their names as they do on exploring the world around them through cultural days, art and even up-close encounters with ladybugs and butterflies! After being home with me for 4 years, my twins started in Mrs. Rainys classroom last year. The amount of growth they had in that year really set them up to succeed in Kindergarten this year. They are some of the youngest students in their class and are already reading above grade level! Mrs. Rainys is a wonderful teacher and my youngest can't wait to have her next year like her big sisters! This year my youngest daughter started at New Hope in Mrs. Wickham's classroom. Mrs. Wickham is one of the original teachers that started the program and you can tell she loves what she does and truly wants the best for each child. Mrs. Johanna is also in the classroom and even though she started mid-year, she jumped right in and has been wonderful! My daughter loves school and wakes up asking "is it school today?" New Hope is very much like a family and we're so happy to be part of it. Thank you New Hope!

He talks about her on the drive to school, and can't wait to spend the day with her. She's made a comforting lasting impression on my son that I'm very grateful for. She's cares for him, fixed his "boo boos", taught him so much that words can't describe how grateful we are she's in his life, even if it is at school. He also adores Ms. Cheli, she runs a tight ship, but the children listen and follow her lead as you can see her experience is valid and spot on. The Bad: The classrooms can be too much. Especially the twos and early preschool. Teachers are stressed, over worked and Im sure crap Pay for the work they do. They deserve so much more. Many times I've walked in the building to managers and directors standing up in the office gossiping about teachers, other families. Especially teachers and other employees within the company. Not just once but several. They don't care. They don't get people can hear them when we are standing in the office. Or while I'm checking my child in the computer, the office door is open, and you have the two directors gossiping about their own employees and people can hear everything. Very unprofessional. Yet they know their teachers need help sometimes, but they would rather sit up there and gossip, and talk mad game instead of supporting the teachers and classrooms that look like a circus sometimes. Kuddos to the teachers hanging and holding on, your management is something else (not in a good way), we only stay for the specific teachers my son loves, but I know as he gets older he will not always have them.

I am a foster mom and had two boys that attended COLA, one of them graduated last year and the little one was still there. We see everybody at the school 3 days a week and bio mom takes him to class two days a week. This arrangement went on for an entire year. On 7/14, we dropped off our boy to his last day of pre-k. My husband picked him up early to bring him home and get him ready for his ceremony and at 11:47 I receive I text message from my husband asking if I noticed a scratch and bruise on his face. I had not noticed any scratches or bruises but I remember taking a video of him that morning eating breakfast and took pictures of him before he went to school and those injuries were not there. He came home with a very noticeable scratch on his lower lip, a scratch above his lip and a bruise on the other side of his face. By this I had already sent the director and the owner a text asking what had happened at school and why we weren't notified. I was very upset and asked to find out what had happened. When my husband was at the school the director told him that my boy said it happened at home but he told my husband it happened outside during one of the recess breaks. When I asked my boy, he said that a teacher was there, he cried and also a student was there. The owner responded to my text by saying "we will take it up with his mom thank you". That was not the answer I was expecting, I wanted an answer. My boy just came home with his face messed up on his final day. Any parent would be concerned and want answers right away. I called the bio mom and let her know what had happened, since we had already agreed to meet at the school at 1 I told her I would see her there and we could speak with the owner and try to find out what happened. During that exchange, the owner would not speak to my husband as well. I understand that bio-mom is the legal person that the owner has to notify and speak to but it is not up to the owner to deny speaking at all when it was obvious that the bio-mom wanted us there and had no issue with us hearing what had happened. Bio-mom consented to us being there so the owner had no right to deny us information or to make that decision for bio-mom. I believe that the owner only wanted to speak to bio-mom because she knows that she could easily intimidate, manipulate, or talk down to her which she can't get away with when speaking to us. From the point when the owner first arrived at the school, she was more concerned with ignoring us and being disrespectful then to actually show any concern about the boy. Not once did she look at him, ask about him, or inquire about what had happened. She was more upset about us "demanding" to know what happened than anything else. The owner further stated that the boy getting injured "did not matter" because it was the last day of school. Funny thing was that less than 48 hours before I was yelled at by a teacher during a field trip on a hot day because I was giving my hungry and thirsty boy water and food. A day later, the owner confronted me again about that same incident. Apparently giving water and food to a child does matter but a child getting hurt 48 hours later "does not matter". The owner of COLA and as such has to take ownership when things go wrong. She can't hide behind her bad attitude or want parents to wait over 72 hours later to have a meeting with her. Apparently, she had no time after the ceremony, or Saturday or Sunday to review the video of the incident. She has no people skills to say something to the effect that she is getting prepared for a graduation but will look into the incident immediately thereafter. She constantly escalated the issue instead of being professional. A simple demonstration that she cared about what had happened would have sufficed. She was more upset about us "demanding" to know what happened like this incident was something insignificant. Apparently it was insignificant because in her words, a child getting hurt on the last day of school "does not matter". Some people try to hide their true self behind religion but the owner puts on this façade that she is this caring and nurturing educator and just because she runs a religious school she thinks that those qualities, values, and morals that one associates with religion will somehow be attributed to her as well. People will undoubtedly show their true qualities, values and morals and it took this incident to show her true colors!i

The parents who don't even know this school are doing an injustice by rating it with just 3 stars. My 2 kids have been attending at this Bonita Country Day School ever since they can start to attend school at age 3. I stayed as long as I can & have been with this school since 2006. In regards to academic curriculum and excellence it is top notch and advance without pressure. BCDS curriculum is 2 years advance on average, and they supplement the lessons most times, so your kids will mostly likely be more than 2 years advance. My kids have been about at least two years academically advance for all their grades when they were tested. In comparison to all the many other elite Southbay and La Jolla private schools I had visited, BCDS is obviously advance. Some of those schools I checked out were even amazed to find out Bonita Country Day School 4th graders are actually doing high school math as a norm. Most new kids entering BCDS for older grades, usually needs help to catch up because they are behind at the other schools they have been attending. Kids are allowed to naturally reach their potential thru independent studies under close administering & guidance by instructors at BCDS. Parents who decide to enroll their kids here at Bonita Country Day School (BCDS) will come to appreciate it watching their kids grow intellectually & be independent thinkers. Many schools boast successful students but they cannot produce great student successfully on high academics like they do at BCDS.. If parents seriously compare curriculum, you will see why BCDS is the better choice. It shows when the kids do well when they have to move on to other schools by academics and exhibits wonderful demeanor. Bonita Country Day School has been known and proven to produce many students who are highly advance learners and thinkers successfully. Note, this school is not big on sports or fancy libraries, or pretentious show of technologies. It is about basic fundamental education to provide your kids with the building blocks for personal success. This schools tuition is a bargain if parents can recognize the real higher cost of putting their kids through standard or less than mediocre expectations at local public schools which are suppose to be free. It is the best money you can spend on your kids.. If you can find it or already have the money to spend on your kids, do it here . There is an average of less than 20 kids per class for every teacher. Its almost like you are getting private lessons for your kids. Sign up your kids now. I have been told, lesson will be provide for all grades, even if there may only be 1 student a particular grade. It's most accommodating here. Faculties from competing schools have been known to tell me on many occasions how they highly regard the talents of Mrs. C, the principle at Bonita Country Day. She does work with cooperative parents to help kids achieve high. All my suggestions and kind requests have been met during the time I have been at BCDS. I only have compliments at this school. She is especially gifted to teach & knows how to help your children grow to their fullest potential intellectually. She prepares them for the real world by helping kids slowly build their public speaking skills throughout the coursework in so many subtle ways too. That bonus part is not even mentioned in the curriculum. I have seen so many kids blossom under her special supervision.. This school is gentle in ways but do not expect your kids to be babied. The staff are nurturing, attentive and knows when your kids are feeling off or not well right away, or knows if they are just testing out the teachers patience. The kids are taught to be independent from an early stage through subtle discipline with simple routines that build up through the grade levels. It's awesome if you recognize what they are doing as parents. It is not a school to show off assets, the families who attend BCDS are mostly very successful, highly educated professionals who are also very humble. It is the right school if parents want outstanding results for their kids. Go there, & you will see... My 2 kids & I love it at BCDS!
