We couldn't be happier with our experience at Montessori School in Newark! Our 3-year-old started here four months ago after transferring from a different school, and the difference we've seen has been remarkable. From the very beginning, the teachers and staff made our child feel welcomed, safe, and understood. The transition was handled with so much care and compassion--it made what could have been a stressful change feel seamless. We noticed right away how much more confident and independent our child became after just a few weeks. The environment is calm, thoughtful, and incredibly well-prepared. You can tell that everything in the classroom is designed with intention to encourage curiosity and hands-on learning. Our child comes home happy, talkative, and excited to share new things he's explored each day. He's even started doing things at home--like pouring his own water or putting his shoes away--that we never expected at this age! The communication from the school has also been excellent. We receive regular updates and photos, which help us feel closely connected to what he's experiencing day to day. We're so grateful to have found this community. As evidenced by my previous reviews of this school, let me say I LOVE this school. It has been a great experience for me and my kids. Throughout the changes in staff, it has consistently remained good. That is, until now. I do not understand what compelled the school to change to a new directress that has admitted that she has no experience whatsoever in heading a school. At first, I decided to give her a chance. Maybe its just being new to the job. But it has just been a constant disappointment for me. The reason why I send my kids to montessori is because I love the teaching style. Teachers should be observers and guides to the students -- not lecture them on how to learn. The first day my child came home from school, he told me, the teacher scolded him. He explained why and I said next time dont do that. And then he explained that they were taught as a group, lectured. Like regular school. Not a montessori school. Why would I send my kid to montessori if it was like this? Why pay for this? The emails are also not very professional and lack information. There is a lack of effort as to the reminders of events. There was supposed to be a halloween parade but there was no info as to what time. And upon arriving there, there was no preparation as to the music or what. During zoom parent teacher conference, we did not yet finish our call yet but another parent was already let in to the zoom call, forcing us to wrap up our call. I never see her during the mornings or afternoons. Previous directors would always be there. I feel like there is a misstep here. Appointing a directress who is so inexperienced that it leaves much to be questioned. I hope someone can fix this soon. read more

My daughter Vaidehi has been going to MSN for the last 3 years. She's grown tremendously thanks to the wonderful environment provided by all the MSN staff - Ms Dorella, Ms Jo, Ms Radha, Ms Jenny and Ms Antara. This school actually follows the Montessori method of teaching and it shows. All the kids here are self aware, empathetic, confident and holistically learn concepts. Both of my children (4 years apart) attended Montessori School in Newark and graduated pre-school after attending multiple years (part time the first year and full-time afterwards). This school does a great job setting a foundation for a love of learning. My daughter, now in 3rd grade, loves to learn and is an avid reader above her grade level. My son, who started going to this school after Covid lockdown, had no problems emotionally and socially with the new experience as the Teachers (especially Ms. Radha) & Director (Ms. Sabrina) showed much compassion & truly cared for each child. Our son started here in February 2024 and it has been a great experience for us so far. Before he started, we had an opportunity to speak to the teachers, observe the lessons, etc. Mrs Sabrina also explained the various ways in which children transition to school to prep us. She also explained how the school adapts to the childs learning needs- if he is more advanced and picks up things quickly, they will adjust the lessons. This was great for us to hear as we wanted to make sure our son wasn't limited to a certain curriculum. Upon starting, the teachers at the school did an excellent job transitioning our son. As most children, it took him some time to adjust and be away from us. But now he loves going to school, has learned a lot and very much enjoys his time there. I highly recommend this school. The teachers are super good! My son Aadhiran developed good skills in reading, storytelling. crafts, team games and art. He went to MSN for ~2 years and he enjoyed every single day. All the teachers ( Ms. Radha, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Esa, Ms. Joe and Ms. Sabrina) are focused on giving the kids a good, clean, safe and encouraging environment for the students. They have helped my son to be self-independent and he learned to interact and treat other kids with respect. Overall, we are completely satisfied with MSN. Positives: Good environment, Clean. Motivated and caring teachers. Negatives: One big class for 3+ kids. The big kids and 3-year-olds are in the same room. Just one restroom for all kids. read more

I highly recommend this school. The teachers are fantastic! The curriculum that Montessori School of Newark follows is absolutely amazing. My daughter Eliana has been developing exceptional skills in math and reading preparation and loves art. The instruction she receives and the teachers dedication to inspiring pre-schoolers to learn far surpasses any expectations that we had. Ms. Sabrina, the school's director, is completely committed to providing a warm and nurturing environment for all her students together with her exceptional assistant teachers Miss Jenny, Miss Jo and Miss Rahda. They have helped my daughter significantly gain confidence and self independence. I am confident that she will enter 1st grade with a great head start. Beyond our happiness with the school is our daughter's, which is MOST IMPORTANT. She cannot wait to leave for school every morning. We are absolutely thrilled to have found an environment that is allowing our daughter to flourish and preparing her for her future education, while at the same time providing her an opportunity to have fun with the friends she has made. My daughter started at Montessori School in Newark (MSN) when she was 3 years old, and graduated from their Kindergarten. The 3 years she spent there was an absolute delight. We had intentionally moved from a play-based school to an accredited (aka "real") Montessori school because we wanted our daughter to have a more defined school curriculum. Montessori was a good fit, because we wanted our child to grow both socially and academically. After spending a painstaking amount of time researching our school options, we chose MSN after seeing how well the primary teacher (Ms Katy Wang) interacted with the kids of various ages. Ms Katy's classroom successfully balances a positive school environment with healthy rules, boundaries, and clear direction. All of the teachers at MSN work hard to help maintain a caring and nurturing environment. They've helped guide and teach my child the essential framework of social and academic success. By Kindergarten graduation, my 5 year old has gained the ability to read complex paragraph books, write sentences in a journal, apply mathematical arithmetic (add, subtract, multiplication) and count/write numbers from 1 to 1000+. She also learned how to navigate through complex social settings and overcome personal social barriers. MSN helped my daughter become an active learner, leader, and teacher to the younger students of the class. We truly love Montessori School in Newark. My child was very sensitive to new environment, but this school made the transition very easy. All the teachers, Ms Katy, Ms Sangeetha, Ms Jenny, Ms Francis, Ms. Radha, and Ms Jo, pay good attention to the students. They teach them not only academics, but also responsibility, caring, and independence. My child was here for only a year, but he became such an independent, self-motivated kid. We really appreciate the traditional Monstessori education conducted in this school. We also like the dance and soccer classes offered onsite. Our son is attending MSN for last 2.5 yrs and this year he will be completing kindergarten in MSN. My wife and I are very happy and satisfied with the learning and care our son has got during this time. All the teachers Ms. Katy, Ms. Sangeetha, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Francis and Ms. Radha give personal attention to the kids. The team is very ably lead by Ms. Katy. School focus is on academics as well as daily life skills. As a 4 yr. old when my son had joined the school, teachers really helped him to settle down and soon he made lot of friends in the school and was always excited about new lessons. Last year our son was eligible to join public school for kindergarten, but since he was learning so much and enjoying in MSN that we decided to continue kindergarten in MSN. We have been sending our eldest son to school since he turned 3 and we couldn't be more happier with our decision to send him to MSN. Our main purpose for sending him to school was to expose him with other children but we were amazed how quickly his development in many areas accelerated. We absolutely love to send our daughter to this Montessori pre-school. Our daughter has been going here since the last 2 years. The school has really adopted the Montessori mindset not just in terms of the academic approach but also how they help grow each student holistically. The teachers are very aware and individually know the kids and their parents. The meeting with teachers every few months provides a quick update on how the kids are doing and the activities they do at school. There is a very healthy balance of play and learn. The kids' individual traits always get respected and nurtured accordingly. Both my kids started at MSN when they were 3 years old. So we have a long time association with MSN and absolutely love the safe, caring and positive environment they have provided to my kids. I am definitely a fan of this preschool because our 2 year old goes here.I was looking for a facility that felt like a school but was not so vast that to a small child, can be overwhelming. Yes the school is small but I like that. I also like all three teachers and I believe the ratio at maximum capacity is 1 teacher to 10 students. If the school added another teacher bringing the ratio down to 1 teacher to 8 students, I would give this school 5 stars; however, the results we see in our daughter speaks volumes! First off, this school is structured and the teachers are serious about teaching the children good manners. One example is that the teachers never point. They kind of do this Vanna White-gesturing-thing that the students imitate. Our daughter does the same thing at home and it cracks us up! It is cute but more importantly polite :) I am a believer in the Montessori method of teaching because it fuses discipline, structure, fun, and exploration nicely. Our daughter's verbal, cognitive, fine motor, and social skills improved vastly from September 2010 to today. I also like the fact that the school hosts Father's Nights & Mother's Nights where children show their parents what they do/what they've learned during the day. I also like the Parent/Teacher conferences where the school's Director meets with the children's parents and talks about their achievements and future goals. What's also nice about this school is that they take students as early as 2 years old and assist in potty training! That's a HUGE plus! They started providing lunch at an additional cost and also snacks throughout the day. Also, about the bedding, each child that naps at the school brings their own crib sheet (to cover the fold out nap pad) and blanket. I don't mind doing this because this I think is sanitary and the kids bring home their beddings each week to be washed/cleaned. In short, I would highly recommend this preschool! = ) read more

Each day we dropped her off, my wife and I knew she was in wonderful care in a safe environment. Ms. Katy has empowered her staff to truly engage with the students and the kids don't look at the staff as disciplinarians but as people who help them explore and inspire the kids to learn new things. He is our eldest and was just shy of turning four years old, so we didn't know what to expect. Would he miss us, would he cry, will he be okay? We picked Montessori in Newark after visiting many schools, and we're so glad we did! Unlike other schools that are crowded or overwhelming in size, MSN is a smaller, homier school where kids receive a lot of personal attention. No one gets lost in the shuffle because all the teachers get to know the kids very well. Our child attended this school for 3 years and she has learned so much. She has learned to read, handwrite in both cursive and print, write stories, identify different continents and countries on a map, add/subtract, and much more. She's also been able to develop her social skills in a warm environment. To my child, MSN was a second home that she loved. Ms. Katy is wonderful -- she is a teacher who not only teaches well but also genuinely loves and care for her students. We're happy by how our child's first experience with school has been such a positive one. One of my top priorities for a school was being able to have easy and direct access to the head teacher (and not through a front desk, have to wait for days for a response, etc.) and MSN met those needs. Our Daughter attends the infant program at the Montessori Children's Center (In Ardenwood), but we have our son enrolled at the Montessori School in Newark. We would move our son to the program at the Center, for ease of drop off, but he's grown very attached to his teachers. Their facility is on the small side, but my wife and I like the intimate atmosphere. The fact they are an AMI accredited Montessori school is a reassurance as opposed to those "toy's on trays" schools that use the Montessori name. When you see the real metal and wood materials in the classroom you know they run a legitimate Montessori and are not just using the name for the prestige. Their potty training program is a lifesaver, and the available lunch program is an added bonus too. We are really glad we found this place. read more

My daughter attended here a short while before we moved. Very pleasant experience. Teachers are all very warm and caring. The environment is cute and attractive to children. I like the hominess of this school. I don't know why the last reviewer said they are only open a short period. They were open from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm. The playground is new and the equipment inside the school seems new too. I think they are on the right track. Check out the duck pond a few blocks away. There is nothing better for a working mum to know that her kids are in safe, loving environment while you are away. Thank you Montessori school for providing that loving environment for my child. These last 2.5 yrs were the most amazing. The teachers are so loving, so caring and so flexible. My kid had separation anxiety when she was in daycare, but at this school the teachers were so loving and patient that within a few weeks, she started to love the place. Ms. Katy, Ms. Francis, Ms. Radha, Ms. Jenny, Ms. Sangeetha, - each and every one of them are so amazing. They helped my LO with her meals, her sleep while she was little. They taught her to read, write, do projects, life skills etc. The school is deep rooted in providing a loving environment to the kids, rather than a big building without much substance. The teachers give so much individual attention to the children that really helps with their mental and emotional growth. My kid is most certainly leaving the place so much more confident. It is with a heavy heart that we are moving on, but I will most certainly send my second kid here. You will not regret sending your kid here. read more
