We really enjoyed many aspects of the zoo. It was pretty clean (walkways and tables, at least) and there was a large variety of animals to see. Feeding the giraffe was so much fun and my two year olds still mention it. I like that it is walkable in one visit and the shade made for great weather. CONS: First off... the food leaves much to be desired. I wish they would utilize all the space in the center of the cafe and expand the food options. The current situation reminds me of a concession stand selection but three times as costly. I'd love an actual restaurant of some kind. My kids have food allergies and the fried junk isn't an option for them. Please expand the food! Next- the bathrooms were gross. Like toilets overflowing with toilet paper gross. The train was broken the day we visited which sent the kids into meltdowns. My final con- some of the animal enclosures were tiny and the animals didn't seem totally happy (the lynx, for example. ok so being from NY I was a little skeptical about the Montgomery zoo, i mean we have the Bronx zoo... but let me tell you, Montgomery Zoo was great! very well set up, lots of different animals, they also had a baby giraffe which was pretty awesome and for $2 extra dollars they let you feed the giraffes. what else? they had a pretty cool parakeet exhibit that you can go into and hold out a stick and the birds will come to you great zoo! good job Montgomery! read more

Awesome zoo for a smaller size city. Ski lift was great, walk bird cage was a blast, and animals are easily viewable. My son liked the taxidermy museum connected to the zoo, but I was not a big fan....it did have a ton of animals on display though. We both thought the train ride was ok, but not much wow....it was like the engineer was full speed ahead trying to get us around the zoo as quickly as possible. read more

Incredibly disappointed. We arrived at the zoo at 3:45. The zoo was supposed to stay open until 5:30. However by 4:30 most of the large animals had been removed from their enclosures and the bird experiences were locked. If they hadn't charged me full price I might not have minded so much but they did and I am extremely disappointed that they stated the zoo would be open til 5:30p. If you're going to put the animals up an hour early you shouldn't state that you're open later. read more

Don't waste your time or money. Sidewalks are covered with leaves and trash. A bad train ride. It was as if it was coming off the tracks. The only friendly person was the lady driving the train. No pride in the zoo. The weeds were high and it was hard to see the aligator in the water. read more

I think this place must be close to extinction. I felt violated. I paid $50 for my daughter and I to ride ski lift, feed birds, giraffes, ride train and entry to zoo. We did everything except museum, the family behind us convinced us to skip it. Wow. Animals were rough. Elephant, 1 of 3 seemed to have something wrong with front right leg/foot. Wouldn't put it down. Black bear never moved. Bird experience was disappointing. But that was only until the lions. I had researched our trip. We planned around lion training and feeding at 130 and then q&a with elephant keepers. They arrived late. Dirty. One could be a meth addict. They don't go in with the lions. They go in a gage between u and the lions primary (& tiny) cage. They call "target" and lions touch to get a reward. The trainer is between you and the animals the whole time. Can't really see much. Lasted 6minutes. No one showed at elephants. The ski lift was the best part. You could look at the zoo animals above. An experience we have never had. However we also saw all kinds of trash and unkept things that were concerning. Light displays that are worrisome. The gift shop was open and cute. Daughter bought shades for $9. No food open although online it said it had. No aquarium. read more

Visited in July. Very sad. Cages way too small, no fresh water, animals all looked very hot and depressed. Many cages that housed large animals like cougars seemed like ovens in very hot sun and no air circulating. Most water ponds for animals were very dirty. Facilities all looked very run down. No workers or care of animals present at all. read more

My little family of three had a GREAT time at Montgomery Zoo last weekend. This was our first trip and will probably be one of many. Ticket prices are good (my toddler got in for free!) and I just loved the leisurely feel of the place. My daughter was in and out of the stroller looking at the animals up close and chilling out along the way. We ate lunch at the Overlook Pavilion and I have to say, what a fabulous location for the restaurant! We ate lunch overlooking the lions and the giraffes and my daughter was just loving it. Food prices are a little steep, but that's to be expected. The bathrooms were fairly clean. The train ride was fun! This is a great zoo and we'll certainly be coming back. We'd really like to do the Giraffe Encounter. Also, kudos on the playground. Our daughter loved it. read more

Generally speaking, I'm not a huge fan of zoos but I was impressed with the overall cleanliness of the Montgomery Zoo. The paths and environments make for a relaxing and scenic stroll. My kids enjoy the train ride and the playground, which is quite large and great for all ages. read more

nice zoo. I came here a few years ago when they were building the elephant habitat. not much has changed. I definitely recommend feeding the giraffes it was cool. we did get to see a peacock display his feathers for us. very fairly priced. we were under threat of storms and had light sprinkles but the animals stayed outside. skylift was not working but I had no desire to ride. great afternoon activity. read more

Montgomery zoo is one of the most beautiful zoos in the United States. The layout and location of the zoo is astounding. I travel to Montgomery, Alabama to see relatives, and each time I go to the zoo and take my children to learn about animals within the zoo, it gives us the family time to talk, laugh and learn. The Montgomery Zoo is a very nice place to spend the day with the kids, whether it be grandkids or your kids...No it isn't the biggest zoo you might have ever been to but it is a very clean, nice place to enjoy your day. This is a really nice little zoo. It's never going to be the top zoo in the world, but is really good for what it has (it is in Montgomery, after all). It may be small but there are some really beautiful exhibits; check out the bears especially! Gotta love the way they use water in their area. read more

This zoo was smaller but nice. I felt the $15 ticket was a little but much for what this zoo offered though. We came through while they had the baby Jaguars and the baby Pygmy hippo so that was neat. It wasn't a day event, walked the whole thing with stopping and taking pictures and watching the animals in about 1.5-2hrs. Feeding the otters was by far my favorite part though! I've never seen that available at a zoo and perhaps because it is smaller, it works and is an option. I imagine a larger zoo might have issues with over feeding them because I definitely paid the $1 for 2 feeds. The gift shop was small and the lady that sold me my ticket was also working inside the shop. She was very nice and when I saw the Popsicle options she let me know they were locally made and provided me with the ingredient binder when I inquired about dairy free options. I'm not sure who made them but I had the strawberry mango and it was fantastic. The book had loads of options that they rotate through so check each time you go, there might be different flavors! read more
