Had high expectations that didn't deliver. My girlfriend and I came to stay the night on Orcas Island, and this was the first restaurant we tried. Having made reservations beforehand, we were really excited to try this place out. The servers who greeted us were really nice. The restaurant had a beautiful dark interior that gave off a cozy steakhouse vibe. They even offered to take my coat, how nice of them! Despite the hospitality, the food did not really live up to expectations. I got the birria, and while it was okay, it definitely wasn't worth the price I paid. My girlfriend's scallop crudel was almost as pricey and it did not even fill her up. I believe the bill for our whole meal (including a mocktail) was over $80. This was definitely not worth the price point paid for, considering that we were not fully satisfied with that meal. Regardless, many thanks to the Monti staff for having us. read more

First visit and I'm smitten. Great decor and service, but the meal really distinguished itself. First course was a fennel shaved salad with exceptional flavor - don't be dissuaded by the reference to anchovy dressing - it works magnificently and nothing overpowers. The chicken liver with summer tomatoes was magnificent, even if they needed an extra slice of sourdough to finish the plate. The star was the roasted pork belly. I've had many in my day but this was the crown jewel of belly's - succulent, tender inside and crispy edges, and the flavor was off the chart delicious. Rigatoni with lamb did not disappoint and pasta was cooked to perfection. Saved room for chocolate mousse and it was excellent and not too sweet. Wine pairings supported the wonderful meal. I look forward to returning and trying all the dishes we didn't select. This place has it over Rosario and Madrona. Your wallet will be lighter but not unreasonably so. read more

They're packed, so make a reservation in advance or you'll miss out. We sat in the lounge, it was dark and very toasty, ambiance was moody and intimate with candlelight and very dim chandeliers. Service was fantastic, attentive, informative, not overbearing, just right. Food was 10/10. Pho clams with house sourdough - right on the mark. Chicory salad was perfectly dressed and a great size to share - I love when a server is honest about portions and doesn't just try to upsell you for the ticket. Came here for our last night on the island. We had a reservation so we were seated right away, but at the time that we went on a Sunday night, there were still plenty of tables open. I tried out the Wagyu Meatballs ($17), Heirloom Tomatoes ($20), Rigatoni Cacio e Pepe ($25), Fusilli alla Carbonara ($28), Tagliata ($47), and Tiramisu ($12). I really liked everything that we ordered, especially the meatballs, tagliata, and tiramisu. Everything was cooked perfectly and was all very tender. The tiramisu was very fluffy and pretty much melted in my mouth. I never really cared for tiramisu, but their tiramisu here was delicious, and I would definitely get it again. Service was great. They were quick to come over whenever we waved for help and they were very friendly with a lot of good suggestions on what to get. Their servers were very personable, and it felt like it came natural for them. Really nice Italian restaurant and would be super cute for a date night. If I ever come back here I'd want to try out the pizza too. read more

Delicious meal that was unexpectedly filling! We had the chicken liver/ tomato starter, the smoked cod croquette, and the pork belly dish. Special shout out to the super juicy and flavored tomatoes and the beans/ sides when eaten together with the pork belly! Super tender, balanced the fattiness of the pork without being too sour. I would say that the dining area felt more like a bar than a restaurant, which is fine if it was a starter only bar, but we enjoyed our experience anyways! read more

It's a lovely restaurant with two distinct dining areas featuring different menus. It's a perfect place for a date night. While the shrimp pasta was tasty, it was a bit too salty. However, they offer a nice selection of drinks, and the prices are reasonable. It's definitely a upscale fun spot to check out on the island. read more

I've waited far too long to write a review for one the best restaurants I've ever been to. My husband and I dined here in August after they had been open for only about 2 months. Monti provided the best customer service I've had at a dining establishment - before we even arrived. We were visiting Orcas Island for the first time and our ferry was running 2 hours late. I contacted the restaurant by email and they communicated back and forth, not only assuring me that they would find a spot for us despite having full reservations for the remainder of the evening, but also giving me driving/walking/parking directions, solidarity in assuring me that late ferries are a rite of passage, and a personal phone number to text if needed. The wonderful service continued when we finally arrived. The food was perfect! From the most delicious bread to al dente pasta made in-house and the best caramel-butterscotch pudding on the planet. They also perfected the ambiance and setting. Sitting on the patio, I could have convinced myself we were actually in Italy. To top it all off, as we were leaving, the owners came out to chat with us about the island, their restaurant, and recommendations for other great food on the island (although my husband and I both agree Monti was the best we had during our trip). The waitress was very tired-looking and I think she gave me covid back in July 22 - no mask. So keep in mind I had a subpar meal followed a bit later by covid. The food was meh. I really did not care for their version of Italian "Roman" pizza, ate like one slice and left the rest. Too "cakey". Salad and wine were ok. Nice porch. No view. We won't return. Oddly enough the owners were there at the same time. I think one of them had parked his flashy car in the (closed and under construction) street, which was causing the construction crews refinishing said street a lot of stress. The police came. Everyone circled the restaurant but no one came in. Lots of hand waving and pointing. Did not understand the small town politics involved, but amusing to watch. read more

What a cute new place on Orcas Island. The place was packed on a chilly October Sunday night. The bread started and salad were delicious. The olives were almost a hit but needed salt and were over cooked. They had no chew or meaty texture to them at all. The cacio e Pepe was good but a bigger portion would have been appreciated for the price. My husband and daughter enjoyed the pizza (which was a good serving size). The wine was also delicious. Service could have been warmer, but hopefully that will get better with time. We'll be back! read more

Delicious food, great wine list, nice ambiance and attentive, friendly service. My hubby and I sat at the chef's counter and enjoyed seeing all of the delicious plates leaving the kitchen. We enjoyed the lovely bitter greens salad, the outstanding sourdough bread that chef makes with his 10 year old sourdough mother, the linguini vongole, the pork chop and budino for dessert all washed down with outstanding wines recommended by Sarah. We got off the ferry and into town around 9pm on a Tuesday and didn't have high expectations (or any) for dinner. I did a quick google search parked in our car and found ourselves crossing under construction tape and stumbling into Monti. Soon as we walked in I noticed a line of imported Italian jarred condiments and goods, one being a brand I had just run out of from a recent trip to Italy and was unable to find online. I was ecstatic. Has this ever happened to you where a series of small and seemingly insignificant interactions happen to align and turns a good day into a great one? Synchronicity maybe? This was our experience upon arrival on Orcas Island. The hostess warmly welcomed us to a table even though we were arriving 20min before closing. It was late and we were tired and hungry and so grateful. We asked for a glass of red and what was the most delicious also turned out to be the most generous pour! We ordered the meatballs, farm greens salad and pasta- all winners. Food, wine, ambience... these are all important but what really made our night were the people at Monti. We ended up chatting with a few of the faces behind the name, individually and at different parts of the night, and had such memorable interactions with each and every one. Great energy all around. Oh and the kicker? They sent us home at the end of the night with a fresh house loaf stamped with Monti's name and all. Breaking bread in the most literal definition. You guys rock. I had the most authentic Roman meal outside of Italy at Monti. The wine list was full of small producers from Umbria and Tuscany. We started with their homemade bread and marrow which was excellent. What a special restaurant for East Sound! You immediately feel a sense of pride and attention to detail. Staff works as a team and it's obvious they love it! That being said the food was outstanding! Was a few minutes early for our reservation so went to the attached space next door, Allora, for a cocktail. Great drinks and excellent service! Moved to the chef's counter for dinner, server was very nice and walked us thru the wines and let us try a few to land on one we liked. We had the meatballs, shishito peppers, bitter greens, squid ink pasta, tiramisu and budino. Presentation and taste were excellent! There was one error early on with getting our order into the kitchen but the server more than made up for it and it didn't effect our overall experience. This restaurant has great food and very friendly staff! With the construction it was difficult to find parking. We felt bad for this establishment because the construction is annoying, but we are so glad we found a place to park and made it in for dinner. We had the margherita pizza, beet salad and Cesar salad. It was all wonderful. This place is worth the parking struggle!!!! Incredibly worth the kerfuffle of trying to get there during the Prune Alley repaving. Simply beautiful surroundings and fare in this upscale, Roman-style trattoria. Wonderful, inspired wine list offering little known and delicious gems by the glass or bottle. Perfect pasta, delightfully unusual antipasti (Marrow bones!!! And the BEST ever chicken liver pate), and savory main dishes. Only place outside of Rome that I've seen the carmel pleasure of budino on a dessert menu. Great staff quickly finding their legs in this newest and most welcome addition to the lovely town of Eastsound. We really enjoyed our dinner at Monti. This is the place for serious foodies on Orca Island. Everything from the greens in the salad to pastas and sauces were fresh and incredibly flavorful. We thoroughly enjoyed the homemade pasta which was prepared perfectly Al dente and the wonderful tomato sauce. We also enjoyed the green and Caesar salads. The wine, an Italian Piedmont white, was excellent and paired well with the food. It was a great meal and we didn't leave hungry, but the pasta portions were a bit skimpy. There were only a few entrees that were quite pricey. The wine was great but marked up 2x+ retail. Overall it's a wonderful restaurant but you will pay more than at other places for this quality of food and service. read more

At 16 weeks since opening, Monti's has hit it's stride. I can't wait to see what they're going to be 6 moths from now. A menu based on Italian standards is fantastically executed. The mussels with house made sourdough and house made sausage is an exceptionally good way to start. The pastas are prepared to perfection and complimented by rich but balanced sauces. Do not miss the pork chop, brined and grilled with a lovely amount of toothsome char, and topped by a delicious romesco sauce, is succulent and moist. The wine list is well chosen and featuring a breadth of Italian wines and digestives. Deserts are limited but include a fantastic take on tiramisu and a velvety budino. The staff are friendly and seem excited for your visit. I couldn't help but feel that they were understaffed by 1-2 people, though so's everyone right now. Monti's is a yet another excellent reason to visit Orcas! read more

Wow. This meal was exquisite. There is construction going on, on the street that may keep Monti a little bit off the radar for some folks, but I am telling you - this restaurant is worth finding!! My partner and I shared the caesar with homemade croutons and local lettuces from the island, and the roasted vegetables which included asparagus and rapini roasted to perfection. I had the bucatini cacio e pepe and my partner had the spaghettini alla gracia (with guanciale) - both dishes were simple but just perfection. We concluded the meal with the Budino with fresh caramel and whipped cream. Hours later we are dreaming of coming back to this restaurant as soon as we can. The best meal I've had in a long time. Their market and wine shop is picturesque & perfectly curated! As we sat for dinner our experience got better and better! Gracious staff and owners. The remodel is tasteful, new and yet familiar. We were there on opening night and they were on pace with a full house. The Cacio e Pepe was perfectly al dente. I would have liked a little more pecorino in the dish (but I'm from Wisconsin). We also really enjoyed the liver pate appetizer. I think we need to start with: don't miss this restaurant if you're visiting Orcas Island! The food is outstanding - as in they can compete with a top restaurant in any major city. Service was excellent on both of the nights we ate dinner there. The ambiance was warm and welcoming. One thing that really added to our enjoyment of the meal was the fact that the tables were spaced far enough apart that we could hear each other even when speaking at our normal volume. The bar sounded a bit louder, but not too loud. Eating outdoors on the patio was lovely as well. We've tried six of the eight antipasti and enjoyed them all. A surprise favorite was the beef tongue. Pizze and pastas were also delicious. Regarding dessert - if all tiramisu was made like this, everyone would love tiramisu. Interesting addition of extra virgin olive oil and sea salt and a smooth, creamy texture left us fighting over who would get the last bite.
