We stopped by on June 16, 2026, after an enjoyable whale-watching excursion and were looking forward to having dinner here. Unfortunately, our experience ended before we ever made it to a table. When we arrived, the hostess was on the phone. We waited patiently, but there was no acknowledgment of our presence--not even a simple "I'll be right with you." Once she finished her call, we asked for a table for four. Rather than greeting us or explaining the wait in a courteous manner, she simply shook her head and informed us there would be a 40-45 minute wait. The issue was not the wait time; it was the complete lack of hospitality. Had we been greeted warmly and treated like valued guests, we likely would have waited. Instead, we were left with the clear impression that our business was neither wanted nor appreciated. We chose to leave immediately and spent $200+ at another restaurant where we felt welcomed. While I understand that busy restaurants often have long waits, there is no excuse for poor customer service and basic discourtesy. Based on this experience, I will not return, nor would I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. read more

Vinny's was so good we came 2 nights in a row right at opening at 4pm. A bit disappointed the first night only had a few oysters left and was told it would be in the next day. Both clams and oysters were still out and we were hoping for more fresh ones and Rockefellers. I guess it's a good indication this is a popular restaurant. We ordered the signature calamari app. This dish is unique with bits of tomatoes, raisins and pine nuts. Very fun to nibble on without ruining our appetite. Recommend. Entrees were great. Hubby was impressed by the taste and good portion size of his veal marsala compared to what he had back in the mainland. The broccolini side was outstanding never seen him so excited over eating veg before. And the fact he didn't offer me any. Must be good. My puttanesca was delish especially if you like olives. Added chicken for protein. Appreciate it's a dish that doesn't have butter or cream. Love the anchovy flavor in the sauce! On day 2, we opted for salad as entree since our salad app on day one was so impressive. Hubs enjoyed his dinner size Caesar salad with 3 prawns and I really enjoyed my dinner house salad with 3 scallops. The little nuggets of dried cherries and blue cheese were amazing. So fresh and scrumptious in every way you can tell it's house made dressing and croutons (for caeser). Typically don't get salads but we crave the ones here. Impressed by the large dessert menu. Enjoyed my refreshing raspberry sorbetto for something light and dairy free. They have a plethora of classic desserts like chocolate torte, lava cake, ice creams etc but also offer gelato, sorbet, banana fosters and dessert cocktails. The tiramisu was decent my hubby had it 2 days in a row. Enjoyed the hot complimentary table bread. So good with their table side evoo and balsamic. What's awesome is for both servers 2 nights in a row, they offered refills on the bread. I was so happy because I don't normally eat bread but being on vacay this was a treat for us to have warm hot crispy yet soft bread! They have non alcoholic beer and beverages as well we were impressed. And watermelon juice!!not expected which makes this place family friendly. Along with their huge menu of wine and cocktails). A really solid choice at Friday Harbor! They were able to squeeze my party of 4 in right before the dinner rush, and we're pretty fortunate we did, because this place was great. The restaurant had a dark, romantic feel, which gave the feeling of a more upscale eating experience. We all got separate pasta dishes, so I can only really speak for my own, but I'd still like to give a quick kudos to the restaurant for having a gluten free pasta option. My friend said that texturally, the gluten free pasta was a bit strange, but tasted good otherwise. My fettuccine alfredo was super creamy, but did not have a very oily taste to it that many restaurants struggle with when it comes to alfredo. It was solid! Overall, if you're on the island and looking for a bit of variety outside of seafood, this is a nice addition to your trip. read more

We got there at 6:59 for our 7 pm reservation, and when we checked in, the hostess told us we were "a little early" and asked us to wait in the waiting area. Lol? We were seated shortly after, but then waited quite a while before our waitress came by to take our drink orders. Right away, both my friend and I felt an awkward coldness from her (we confirmed this with each other after). She spilled my drink on the table while setting it down, got our appetizer order wrong (though we ended up getting a free one out of it), and then toppled over my friend's entire drink, which got on my phone and jacket. Overall, it felt like a bit of a mess, and the dinner service was painfully slow. We were there for 1 hour and 45 minutes. That said, the bacon blue cheese side salad was solid, and we liked both mushroom appetizers. The scampi didn't live up to expectations; the noodles were overcooked. Based on a recommendation from a local, we made a reservation on a Tuesday evening at 6:15. We called and they called us back to verify. We really enjoyed Vinny's. The hostess was super sweet and our service from Jesus was wonderful. The calamari was superior and the lasagna was very tasty. We might caution you - if you arrive late - some of their specialties may be gone as we got the last two servings of lasagna and the restaurant I believe was open for a few more hours. I finally made it in to Vinny's and SO glad we did. Everything was simply wonderful and the wine selection just as good. The service was also great (maybe because we had the Mariner's playoff game on and the servers were all hovering over our table). Awkward af. Weird/nonexistent service. Uninviting and we felt like a burden. Nough said. Empty restaurant, only 2 tables occupied. The hostess had a weird "air" about her and clearly didn't want us there. We weren't offer a table but instead were directed to "the bar": an uncomfortable six top table (with storage for bar towels underneath) tucked in a corner by the wine storage. Having to move when a waiter wanted a bottle was inconvenient at best. An older manager type noted that we were uncomfortable and upped the ante on awkwardness. Her late attention and attempt to move us to one of the many empty tables fell flat. She did take a beverage order, finally. One glass of wine later we had had enough of the place (still empty, still no service). Then it took an icky amount of time to get a tab and pay. Maybe an off night? Maybe the hostess had a bad day? A big THANK YOU to JULIE and her team for taking care of our party for our rehearsal dinner. Julie stayed in consistent communication with us for months leading up to a memorable evening. Four people from our wedding party were late for the reservation due to sea plane delays. Upon their arrival, and after the rest of us ate, they were provided an amazing meal without feeling rushed. Being from Chicago and recent WA transplants, Vinnys is comparable to any old-school Italian restaurant in our home city. Additionally, Julie and her team made us and our party feel like family. What a totally unexpected culinary surprise! We had been visiting Friday Harbor and other San Juan Islands, and we stopped into Vinny's Ristorante with a party of five. We each ordered something different, and every single item was not just great,but superior by far to any Italian food. I've had in a very long time! The calamari was crispy and peppered with pinenuts and currents as is done in many Mediterranean dishes. I ordered the eggplant Parmesan, which was a flavorful punch of deliciousness. I tasted the fettuccine and the spaghetti and all were amazing! Everybody got a dessert so we tried the Sundaes, the lava cake and, my personal favorite, the bananas Foster. It's been a long time when such an array of food was provided, and every single dish was so good that one continues eating even though you think you can't eat another bite! To be honest our family was super excited to eat here since it was our first time coming to Friday harbor... we didn't expect that we would need reservation prior to coming to this restaurant. When we got inside we were greeted but also we were greeted as if they didn't want us there? I told the host how many in our family... and she said hmmm.... I will have to check . I honestly would be ok if she said we are busy today due to reservations but the way she sounded it was kind of awkward. Then when we were finally gonna get seated she goes and tells me because I had kids " I have guest today will you guys behave?" To my kids who are 5,6,2 I felt that was a bit outrageous to say. This place had decent food. I ordered a caprese salad, spaghetti marinara, tiramisu, and port. I thought the spaghetti was okay, but wasn't a fan of the sauce or the cheese. They were kind enough to serve me a child's size, since I already ordered other things like the salad and bread. I kind of wished I ordered a different entree. The salad was good for what it was but it wasn't filling, and it seemed too small for it to be $10. I'm also a little miffed because they had me waiting at the entrance for quite a long time; nobody noticed me for a solid five minutes before they asked how many was in my party, and then it took another five minutes to seat me even though the restaurant wasn't that full. Vinny's is so good! It is fresh and very tasty. We got a late reservation because that's all there was. Call for reservations. The place was very busy when we came. We got seated and it took a little bit for the server to get to us our drinks since it was so busy. What appeared to be the owner came over and made sure we got our drink order in, it was very nice to make sure we were taken care of. We ordered the pear salad to start. It was good! For entrees we got Chicken Piccata a d Mediterranean chicken. Both were really really good! Great flavors and very fresh. It was perfectly seasoned. Eggplant parm was burned, sauce on pasta was yes, a good Tangy tomato, but no Italian spices whatsoever, and was cold, like gazpacho. Mozzarella was tough like shoe leather--or plastic (yes, I got the Cheese touch!). They should be introduced to fresh garlic, oregano, and (gasp) salt. How hard is that? Shake up the kitchen or open a (poor) pizza place. Maybe do frozen meals or airplane food. Perhaps premade hospital Meals? I would eat this if I were in a hospital with an incurable disease. Maybe. Overall not bad. I had the chicken Marsala, my husband had the mushroom risotto and for appetizer we had the garlic prawns. I was very very impressed with the prawns. The sauce was amazing. The kick of the garlic and the capers was absolutely superb. I was so impressed that I could dip bread into the sauce and eat it just like that l, even spoon it into the mouth. I was really impressed with the prawns and was looking forward to the entree but I was not impressed with the Marsala. The sauce was on the sweet side which was new. The noodles were just noodles nothing impressive and the asparagus had a crunch and was not chewy which is good. The chicken on the other hand had practically no flavor and was only enhanced by the sauce. Take away the sauce and the chicks had no internal flavor. My husband risotto was great. Good flavor, good Parmesan kick and very creamy. Super yummy. Overall good food. Kiddos to the person who made the garlic prawns. Those were fantastic ... Service was nice - gave you space. I feel like Vinny's is missing out on the opportunity to be a really good restaurant. The food was tasty, but my seafood pasta was served barely warm; I got the impression that it had sat under a heat lamp in the kitchen before coming to the table. Service was also extremely slow. Perhaps they had a staffing shortage, as so many other restaurants are facing right now. Surprisingly, the highlight of our dinner was the waterboy/ busboy, who was attentive and kept our water glasses full without missing a beat the entire evening. Kudos to him! read more

What a pleasant surprise to wonder into Vinny's and be able to get a reservation later that evening. It's a holiday weekend after all and all the places on the water we're booked. This was to be our first trip to Vinny's. The atmosphere is very much family Italian. a few seats at the bar and the rest white table cloths with tables that can be moved about to accommodate various sized groups. The owners work the restaurant both at the door and on the floor but there was plenty of staff and the kitchen timed everything perfectly. The menu had a nice assortment and the three or four additions for the evening offered even more choices. We were a party of two so we had one special, a Sockeye Salmon sautéed and served with a wonderfully simple risotto and vegetables. The risotto I say was simple only because it didn't crowd the flavors or as the aesthetics of the plate. The salmon, cooked to perfection, was perhaps the best we've had in the last 60 days we've spent in the PNW. The other entree was the Chicken Piccata, it was a very nicely prepared traditional dish, served with pasta and vegetables. Absolutely what I expected and hoped for with great flavor and not to much of any one flavor. Again also cooked to perfection. We started with the Calamari which is a nice twist sort of on a misto type, with tomatoes and pine nuts and perfectly prepared. They also have a variety of salads and again we were delightfully surprised by the perfection of their blue cheese salad. Great mix of ingredients and it's size was perfect too. Another thing we liked besides the friendly, well coordinated and prompt service was a very good portion control. An elegant sufficiency is the way I'd put it.
