Unfortunately, my experience with Montoya Law on my workers' compensation case was very disappointing. Initially, I felt confident based on the firm's marketing and the promises made during the intake process. However, after I signed the retainer agreement, communication became a significant issue. Emails, phone calls, and text messages often went unanswered, and I frequently had to follow up multiple times just to receive a response. As the injured worker, I was simply trying to stay informed and actively involved in my own case. I don't think anyone had a greater interest in achieving a favorable outcome than I did. Despite that, I often felt like my concerns were being dismissed rather than addressed. One conversation with attorney Ruben Montoya particularly stood out. After I had made several attempts to contact the office regarding concerns about my case, I finally received a call. During that conversation, I felt more criticized for trying to communicate than supported as a client. I was repeatedly told that "it's not instant soup" and that he was "not a magician." While I understand that legal matters take time, those comments left me feeling dismissed and unheard. I also experienced long delays in receiving medical treatment. At one point, I went more than six months without treatment related to my work injury. The doctor I was referred to was approximately an hour from my home, and appointments often involved waiting for extended periods before being seen. When I raised concerns about retaliation and other issues affecting my claim, I was told another attorney would contact me to discuss them, but that never happened. I also attempted to discuss adding additional injuries to my claim and did not receive meaningful follow-up. Throughout the case, I felt like I was constantly advocating for myself instead of having an attorney actively advocating for me. The firm's advertisements emphasize fighting for injured workers and making sure clients do not leave money on the table. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I did not feel supported, prioritized, or adequately represented during a very difficult period in my life. After nine frustrating months, I terminated my contract with them. I had to handle negotiations on my own, and it took almost a year to settle the case. Despite my case lasting three years, Montoya Law represented me for only nine months, doing nothing beneficial and even stopping my payments. When discussing fees with Ruben, he was unprofessional, demanded too much money, and refused negotiations, leading to a court dispute. Horrible experience. They NEVER called us back once and the only way we could get them to answer our calls is if we threatened to change lawyers. They sent us to a provider who was 84 years old and was completely unreachable. We called to verify appt and there was NO staff to answer call to verify so drove an hour to the location only to find out the doctor had been sick for weeks and wasn't there. No one called us to tell us this. We then informed lawyer. 2 weeks go by and no call back from lawyer. It's been 6 months that my husband has been on worker's comp and this lawyer had basically gotten us nowhere. The only thing he did was have a doctor sign a paper saying my huband should stay on worker's comp other then that, nothing. We have no idea if he needs surgery or not in SIX months. Called again today and they said lawyer was not available until I said we are signing papers with another lawyer, miraculously he became instantly available. He made up some story about how we went to the doctor after they told us Paul had to quarantine first for 2 weeks and needed another appt. What he didn't seem to realize is the appt was after 2 weeks and after it was rescheduled. This guy doesn't have an idea of what is going on. I just hung up and signed papers for a new laywer.. There is NO possible way these five star reviews were not posted by friends because this guy literally DOES NOTHING. NEVER ONCE RETURNED A SINGLE CALL AND ONLY TOOK CALLS WHEN WE THREATENED TO FIRE HIM. UPDATE: Lawyer called to ask me to remove review today. He claims it's not his fault if the doctor is not available or reachable. Sorry but what? Isn't this a provider YOUR office vetted and found to be reliable? This IS your fault. If I could give these guys 0 stars, believe me I would! I had a horrible experience with a previous lawyer. I reached out to Montoya law and was promised they would handle my case with attention and have communication with me. That turned out to be a huge lie. They sent me to a shady doctor and the only way to get up was climbing 4 flights of stairs and with a back injury, this was not easy. After that, they switched me over to another doctor where I was physically assaulted by a homeless person lurking. I was told by the lawyers to suck it up because looking for a new doctor would take too much work. The last straw was when I saw a new doctor (several months later) and he informed me no paperwork had been submitted to the state doctor. It had been more than 6 months! I tried calling, emailing, even going through their website and no response. Their receptionist is also rude and apparently fails to give messages. I was over it. Used this law firm recently for a workers comp case and was very pleased with the results. The case itself took a long time but that's the normal process. I didn't hear much from them except for in the beginning and near the end. In the middle was just the wait time between appointments. Nothing was happening then to cause them to prep me about anyway. All communication was thorough and easy to understand. They were patient and explained the process fully. In the end, I won my case as I knew I would; however, without this firm all I was getting was the run around and headaches. I probably would have never gotten a settlement.
