Had dinner here on Tuesday evening. The venue is beautiful and well decorated. If you like sitting…read moreat a table, there are few to choose from. Most of the seating is alfresco (wear layers), and on outdoor lounges. It's a great place to grab a drink and snack before the movies. There was no dinner menu, which seemed a bit bizarre. There was a breakfast and lunch menu, but there were only shared plates on offer from 3pm onward. We got a broad selection of food and the portions were more generous than we anticipated, so keep in mind it is great for groups. We shared the warm olives (good), the truffle arancini balls (decent), the grilled halloumi (yum), sweet potato fries (yum), and the trio sliders (not recommended). The sliders were super disappointing, all super dry. If we hadn't ordered those we would have needed another shared plate to compensate. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good, I wish we had tried the prawns instead. There were a lot of comments on GOOGLE about poor service, but we thought it was good service with a friendly staff and the food was sent out super quick. I'd like to think we would go back, but not for dinner. Most likely drinks on the patio and maybe some small bites.

I know , I know , 5 Stars for Forest Lake Tavern, Yes it's true. No I wasn't pissed, or on drugs…read more This is a honest assessment . Had the Lemon Calamari for a entrée, which was enough to share . My daughter had the Hickery Burger which was really good . I had the rump steak which I payed $ 31 , came out exactly the way I ordered. And believe it or not, I thought it was better than the Brecky Creek. Yes , that's right better. Will come back. It was pleasant experience .

A very disappointing visit. The staff were not particularly welcoming, although there was one young…read morewaiter who was pleasant but seemed quite new and took quite a while to take our orders. He also collected our plates by placing a pile of dirties on the table in front of us, scraping scraps onto the top plate, then stacking under and continuing along the table. My husband handed his steak back to a waitress, explaining that his chicken wings topper was missing. They returned his plate a minute later stating that the topper hadn't been charged for, so if he wanted it he would have to go back and order it and pay for it first. He declined and accepted his plate as it was but sat and calculated our order and worked out that he had paid for the topper after all. When he told them she tried insisting that he was wrong but after actually checking the register receipt discovered he was correct she grudgingly went and organised his topper, no apology. I was also disappointed with the food this time. The antipasto pizza was edible but the pizza base was like a frozen supermarket pizza, not a "wood-fired" pizza, the "char-grilled" eggplant and zucchini were tiny steamed cubes, and the roasted capsicum was missing entirely. Most of the meals in our group were quite nice but the attitude of the staff really brings it down and I had to discard 2 water glasses before I found one without lipstick on the rim. Won't be going back.

Instead, I saw the sign for Bean, and having passed it several times, I thought, hey, why not walk through this shady looking garage and dumpster (looked like one) and see what's up? I walked up to a chalked door and a short flight of stairs down into a kitschy, cute, nicely air conditioned cafe, and was greeted by a really eccentric but friendly barista. I was just looking for a cuppa to-go, but was rather tempted to plant myself and look around. The cafe isn't big, but there is a good amount of table space, either to study at or to play the many board games that this place houses! I was quite pleased at their game selection of Cluedo, Scrabble, Jenga, and more! This is also one of the few cafes in Brisbane that provide free wi-fi. So much win! As for the coffee, I've only had their skinny latte, which I do enjoy. For Brisbane, it is definitely good - a bit bold, but not overly dark, like I find the places around here. The coffee has a bit of a fruity or nutty aftertaste - I can't quite tell (must have it again!), but I would definitely have it again. I wasn't sure if they had food to offer, as I only saw some cupcakes on display, but it looked like they might serve sandwiches... Alleyway cafes seem to be very characteristic of Brisbane's hip cafes, and although my friends know me to always find these places with shady entrances, quite a few of them turn out to be good, if not intriguing! All in all, this is one of my favorite places so far - the ambience, board games, free wi-fi, and the barista!
