Officer Picker went above and Beyond to return my License Plate, and saved me about Two Hundred Dollars on New Plates, and Officer Picker, and the rest of the Department, Please continue in your efforts to make the community Great.

She said "we don't have some magic wand to who put these in your garage and there absolutely nothing I can do" as I was storming out from being so furious she then asks "mam what would you like me to do?" I paid for a booking report and submitted my application the same day. I was told I couldn't check…read morethe status until four weeks had passed, so I waited exactly as instructed. When I finally called, I was told the report had supposedly been emailed the day after I applied, but I never received it. Instead of investigating, I was told to check my spam folder--even though those emails are automatically deleted after 30 days, and the sender was already saved as a contact. When they resent the report, it came through immediately, making it hard to believe the original email was ever sent. The entire process was frustrating and inefficient. Requiring customers to wait four weeks before they can even ask about a missing report only delays resolving issues like this. It's 2026, there should be a better system for tracking requests and confirming delivery.

I've had several issues with this department in the past year. First of all, my truck was stolen…read morelast year and they did absolutely nothing. I ended up finding it behind a car wash on Iliff and Peoria at 2am, after ME doing the investigation for over a week. I called them telling them I found the truck. They told me to wait at the scene and an officer would be there shortly. There was a man parking in his truck right next to mine, my boyfriend walked up asking if he knew anything. My truck was sitting on logs, stripped. Those same logs were in the bed of this guys truck. He offered to buy the truck, we took his phone number for the police because we had suspicion. There were also cameras from the car wash pointing directly at my truck. The police took 8 hours to even show up. And when they did, we offered them the phone number and asked them to get the camera footage to find the people who stole the truck, you know. Descriptions of the suspects, license plates etc. They said no, because this happens so much it's not a priority and they "can't" do anything about it. If anything, it happening so much should MAKE it a priority. Second incident, a few weeks ago I was at horseshoe park when I watched a teenager chuck a baseball at his friend's head. Then yell "the second I'm getting a gun I'm going to a f**king school and killing everyone there. I called the police immediately. They took 2 hours to show up, and by the time they did the boys were gone. Now lastly, and probably the most important one, last Saturday night I was walking my dogs by central recreation center when a blacked out Tahoe pulled into the parking lot slowly creeping towards me. I called my boyfriend to pick me up. A few minutes later a man walking from the trail yells "HEY" at me and immediately starts sprinting towards me, I start running. I'm being chased by possibly human traffickers and luckily there was someone else at the trail who called out for me as he saw me running away and stayed with me while I waited for my boyfriend, which then the man chasing me got in the Tahoe and they sped off. I called the police to make a report, explaining they could get the footage from the outdoors cameras at the rec center to get a license plate, and hopefully be able to find the people before someone else goes missing. They told me someone would call me to make a police report. The incident happened at 9:30pm, I called around 9:45-10pm and they didn't even go to search the area or even give me a call back until 1:30am. And the officer who spoke with me on the phone told me "well what exactly do you want me to do about it?" When I told them about the camera footage, they told me they had no way of accessing the footage. I called the rec center to see if I can get it, and they had told me I'd have to file a police report and they would have to get the footage from them. So the police do have access to that footage. They're just lazy, sorry pos! I'm sorry but Aurora police department is absolutely useless. Oh but I bet once I start actually taking care of these situations myself and doing something that's actually beneficial, somehow they'll want to do something. I cannot express enough how lazy and useless these officers are.

Aside from 2 very professional traffic ("alleged" speeding) pull overs, I've yet to be on the "other side" of these fine officers. The same can't be said regarding one particular relative, but that's a long bar conversation and a walk home. However, I do try to convince my Wife that I'm a "Bad Boy" at heart, but she's not buying it. Here's a few other experiences I've had with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department: 1. Free prescription meds drop off at the main HQ. The box is just beyond Security and the folks there have been most helpful in getting that job done. 2. Genoa Candy Dance and Western Heritage Days (including Horse Parade). Again very professional. 3. I'm a contributor to the The Douglas County Sheriff's Advisory Council. Other Comments 1. I'm a graduate of the Carson City Sheriff's Citizen's Academy and hope to do the same in Douglas County. This is a great learning opportunity. 2. Carson City Sherriff Ken Furlong is a master (in my opinion) at maintaining a nonpartisan approach to law enforcement and public outreach. I trust that our Sheriff has a similar line of action. 3. I'm on the Board of Temple Bat Yam in South Lake Tahoe and very much appreciate the Security efforts of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, which is just across the State Line from Douglas County.

Meals are decent. guards are generally polite unless provoked. but DCSO cannot really be reviewed as one entity. There are so many moving parts that makes that machine work. I did not get along with the nurses at all, but i did take part in JBBS (jail based behavioral services) ran by Jennifer Cordova. She was great, it was the very first time i went to jail and felt like the guards, nurses, judges, and public-defenders were working at the rehabilitation of inmates. Not just punish them. Lets be real. nobody likes to go to jail. but of the jails ive been to, this is by far the cleanest with the most polite staff, after i left i was told that that my four prescriptions would be in my property in the form of a voucher. But this ended up being a lie or a mistake. I had vital meds that i must take daily to remain healthy, i give nurse mindy alone a 2/5 stars.

THAT building looks gritty, dark, imposing and vaguely menacing when one looks at it. THIS building, in contrast, has a modern design, is relatively welcoming, grounds are kept up nicely and the help I received here, while perfunctory, was delivered with an earnest desire to help (again, completely in contrast to the "help" I received downtown.) The officer that helped file a hit-and-run incident report for me back in June was also from DPD District 3 (it's now October). So...not too much business to conduct here, but thanks for making it a welcoming, less foreboding building to walk into and staff to interact with, DPD. Kudos, and I respect your work keeping my neighborhood safe.
