The playground areas are especially great for families because there are several scattered throughout the park, so it never feels overly crowded. The fishing ponds are also a nice touch if you want to slow things down and relax for a bit. It's a great spot for a weekend walk, letting the kids burn off some energy, or just getting some fresh air. The park is generally well maintained and there's plenty of room to spread out. Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that it can get pretty busy on nice days and parking near the playgrounds fills up fast. But overall, it's definitely one of the better parks in the area and worth the visit.

Lots of giant trees where squirrels like to play hide and seek with the dogs. This is just one area of the park but there is a huge pond to fish, a large walking trail around the pond on the other side and I've only explored a portion of this park. My kids loved it. The pavilions are covered with ample seating, there's a nice playground nearby for the kids, and lots of open grass for games. The bathrooms are pretty clean and close by. There is also ample parking. We visited in mid October and while it was still pretty hot, the shade of the pavilion makes for a nice day out. We were able to play several games in the nearby grassy area - making sure to drink plenty of water! There are a few trees so it isn't totally open but large enough for group games. There's a ditch area further out that's pretty easy to retrieve balls and frisbees from if they go too far. All in all a solid picnic option!

The walking paths have recently been upgraded to asphalt rather than packed clay, and there are a couple of hiking trails through the forested areas to enjoy as well. Closes around dusk and the constables do pass through and nudge folks out before closing. Locking gates were also recently added. My dog enjoys our walks here especially when she sniffs out the occasional deer or rabbit that live along Cypress Creek. If you do the whole loops the walking path is about 2.5 miles.

Our hiking group, Houston Area Trails and More, got 9.96 miles of hiking out of an afternoon visit and we still hadn't done all of them. The terrain varied between sand and dirt. For Houston standards, the trails had wide elevation changes. The trails in the forest had a lot of shade. There is a lake where several people were fishing. On the trails we also ran into lots of locals. We did not see any animals out there other than birds and a rabbit. The fields had wildflowers and berry plants. We parked in the parking lot off Riley Fuzzell Road. There were roughly 50? parking spots. Three police cars were also parked there. There is a building where you can get colorful maps of the maze of trails and use restrooms. I didn't see any water fountains or restrooms out in the trails.

Decent and well maintained trails, tons of shade, and not crowded at all.(only saw three people while I was out for a few hours) bring water because I didn't see a refill station besides the main entrance where there's restrooms as well. Also bug spray is a MUST.
