This isn't a big chain with a flat screen tv in the waiting room, however, from the moment I walked in Laura radiated warmth and comfort. She introduced herself to me and asked a lot of questions to understand what my concerns were and what I needed. She made suggestions yet wasn't pushy or domineering as some of the local competitors tend to be. It was all about my personal comfort. Her studio is clean, relaxing, fragrant and the perfect space in which to get out all of the kinks. I hurt my lower back this week and it not only knocked me out of commission with my regular routine, but it made the rest of my body tight and achy because every muscle was over compensating for my aching back. Laura did such an amazing job on me, I felt like a million bucks after. On a side note, Laura practices Reiki. I am not even going to pretend to know what that is, but she said two things to me about my root & heart chakras that were so spot on that it was actually mind blowing! I didn't want anything fancy - frankly, I'd just been to Peru and Turks and Caicos and had indulged in some wildly expensive (to me!) spa services, but I didn't need all that for this. They quoted me $60 for 60 minutes. DONE. I came out of there battered and bruised, but it was what I wanted and what I needed. Fast forward 36 hours and I'm feeling so much better - no more neck or shoulder pain. The massage started with kneeding over a thin blanket, then that was eventually removed. Nicely warmed oils were added to my body (no particular smell) and finally, hot stones were rubbed over my back. Sigh. A few comments: Language can be a barrier - speak slowly and clearly. Tell the ladies what you want and need them to focus on and how long you'd like timewise. If I hadn't spoken up, I think they would've just done whatever your standard massage was. The ambiance is pretty basic, but I got a private room with a heated pad to lie down on. No fancy smelly essential oils here. The background music was not annoying. Speak up if you want a little more or a little less pressure. The lady who was giving me a massage asked me several times, so I appreciated that she checked in. I completely understand that there is only one hour to do a full-body massage, but that doesn't mean you can rush to a point where I am unable to even relax. I have received many one-hour, full-body massages in my life and this one felt like I was being massaged by a very inexperienced person (although I understand she is licensed). Secondly, the experience felt very unprofessional, as if there was no rhyme or reason to what was happening during the service. Cindi mentioned a couple times that she was physically tired from the holiday rush, so I already felt shortchanged. Regardless, please do not charge $60 for a service that you cannot perform to your best ability. If you know I'm paying and you don't feel your best, please still take your time and try to provide a relaxing experience. The whole experience felt very chaotic and I felt very taken advantage of. I feel terribly writing this review, but for $60, I must say it's not worth it. I normally will tip no matter what happens (bad haircut, bad nails, bad food service-- because I do believe in tipping and in treating people well), but I was truly so disappointed and confused as to what I had just experienced that I simply could not add more than a couple dollars additional tip.
