Some food truck love here at COVA. The fried rice is some of the best fried rice I've had in this area, period. This is a legit Thai guy talking. I didn't expect that. I just saw this food truck at COVA, and noticed they had it on the menu so I said, why not, I'll order. It's fantastic. Very flavorful and very fresh tasting. I'm excited about this because I'll order this again. The Chicken Sando was very good. The honey adds the perfect sweetness, and works well the sauce. The fried chicken, specifically the batter was yummy. And who doesn't love potato bread? If you don't love potato bread, you get a one star review. And are these homemade pickles? Again, yummy. Well done. I'll be back.

I was introduced to Moon Tide's food truck. They have a vegetarian crunch-wrap inspired entree. It's awesome! Service was great!

I have been here several times to pick up food, but this was my first time actually going inside to order. The line was long around lunchtime, but it moved quickly. It is fast casual style, so you walk down the line choosing what you want and then pay at the register. I honestly had no idea that was how it worked before, so I was prepared to wait a while. I was pleasantly surprised at how efficient everything was. I was in and out much faster than expected. While putting my order together, the man helping me handed me a sample rib over the counter. I am a very socially awkward person and do not handle unexpected moments very gracefully, so I probably reacted a little awkwardly. That part was on me. The rib was GOOD though. He was very kind about my reaction and even handed me a napkin. The whole staff was friendly, asking how my week was going and checking in to make sure everyone was happy. Even though it was busy, they clearly care about customer service. The food was great. The garlic and green onion sausage had so much flavor, and the bananamisu was the perfect sweet finish. I originally went in hoping to order the BBQ oxtail, but they were sold out within two hours of opening, which honestly says a lot about how good they must be. I had also gone the day before around 7 PM and they had already closed because they were sold out for the day. Just a heads up that they do close early if they run out of food. Overall, great food, friendly staff, and quick service. I will definitely be back and hopefully I will finally catch the oxtail next time.

For this, I'll be departing from my normal style of writing to write an educated and informal post in hopes that the truckers will read this and make amends for the next gathering. Before the actual review, I'd like to thank WHRO for graciously hosting the event. Onto the business end of the stick... I showed up at 1:40PM, an hour and forty minutes after the event started. When I got there I went in what appeared to be the shortest line, which was for Norfolk Ramen (NR). In line I asked the person in front of me how long they had been waiting and they said for 15 minutes so far and that there was a second line to wait in to get your food. Still I waited, and waited, and waited. 25 minutes later I heard that NR ran out of the item I was interested in. No bueno mi compadre. I decided to go for another line; this time it was Stuft. A friend of mine who had already gotten food from them said the wait was only around 35 min and the tacos were pretty decent. 25 minutes into this wait Stuft called the line off and said they had ran out of food. ¡Que verracos pasa! At this point I was pissed, so I left. I not only worked in the gourmet food truck circles, but have also visited the various circles across the country. My experience was horrible and I know that I am not alone because the two girls that were behind me also left the NR line to go to the line for Stuft. This is unacceptable. What it is reflective of is very poor preparation. Did anyone think to call the plethora of great trucks from the food truck rallies/farmers markets from around the country for expertise? Not only have they been doing this for a while, handle greater volume, have more expansive menus, and do it all with wait times in the range of 5 to 10 minutes. I already know the answer to the question is no. There are a lot of people kissing your collective arses at the moment, because the majority of them do not know any better which is a shame in itself. Excuses like you didn't know people were going to show, it's hard working in those trucks, etc. You saw the RSVPs on FB, you new of the collective noise in the HR area via the various media/online outlets, and it's cramped but there benefits to working in the truck as well. So, I guess I will be the critic in the crowd and call for results. If you want to successfully join the culinary movement sweeping across the States, then simply do better. Have enough food for the crowds, have enough staff to assist, and do the prep work necessary to punch down wait times. Why this isn't a one star review is because of the location (good), the idea (also good), and from what I saw of the food (it looked good). Suggestions for the venue organizers... Maybe have an on-site portable ATM and invite a craft beer truck. I'll update this review after attending the next rally.

Saw they were coming back and cancelled our leftover plans to head to Pine and Porch, they were set up and taking orders when we arrived at around 6 and service was super kind. We ordered the Bulgogi Fries, Steamed Shitake Dumplings, a Spam Musubi, and the Maui Wowie Cheeseburger. WE ARE IN LOVE. It was my first spam musubi, a simple but incredible flavor bomb and should have gotten 100 of them, is that legal? The marinated and sauced up ribeye on the bulgogi fries was so friggin flavorful and the fries were oh so crispy. I don't want to talk about the burger, because if I do I might get emotional, GET THE BURGER smashed, burnt ends and still juicy topped with the bacon jam, the cheese, the fried onions no sauce needed it's perfect as is. I'm sorry I didn't take a photo of the burg, I was hungry, you'll have to trust it was very pretty to look at. The dumplings were the perfect side to contrast our fried heaven and the chili crisp was flavorful and electric. Anyways, can't wait to come back for bowls so we can hit up the rest of the menu.

I never heard of them before so I was interested to see what they had to offer. They are Asian-Pacific cuisine. They had burgers that were Asian inspired, pork belly bun, wings, bowls and etc. I ordered pork belly buns, bulgogi chicken bowl and fries. Pork Belly - the buns were soft and pillowy. The belly was seasoned so good, tender and yummy! The best I've had!! Bulgogi Chicken bowl- chicken was well marinated that reminds me of like a Japanese BBQ soy sauce based. It had a nice cooked char to it. Chicken thighs were used making it tender. This was so YUM! Fries- were the crinkly ones salted nicely lol Customer Service- was the best!! Very friendly and kept you informed how much longer your food will be. They give you a buzzer so you don't have to wait around the truck. The owners were awesome. They post on their website of where they will be so if you see them, please stop by and check them out. It's worth it!

In a nutshell: I tried to hire The Tailored Chef for my…read morecousin's bachelorette dinner. He bailed on me last minute and was extremely unprofessional about it. I'm glad to see there are people who are happy with his services but I have found that with reviews, people who get the short end of the stick don't say anything unless it's really, really bad. So I imagine that there are people out there who have had similar experiences to mine but didn't deem it worthy of their time to leave a review. I think it's a huge inconvenience to write this review but I wish someone else would have done this so I wouldn't have had this experience in the first place. Therefore, I am writing this to pay it forward so future bookers can have this data point before deciding if they want to book and put the reliability and concrete-ness of their plans, the smoothness of their event and ultimately their happiness and satisfaction in the hands of this careless, indifferent and unprofessional flake. Long version: The only part of the entire encounter that was positive was that after I submitted the inquiry through Yelp, he responded pretty quickly. After that, it all went downhill. Not only were the email handoffs not warm (as in a "warm handoff" that doesn't leave the customer feeling thrown around between people), unprofessional, disjointed and caused for poor customer experience, I repeatedly had to ask for a link to pay once they had confirmed the date and sent me an invoice confirmation because they had thought I had paid and I hadn't - I was being ethical and trying to make sure they got paid. Then all of a sudden one day, I got an automated email confirmation that my confirmation had been cancelled. No communication from Chef Lin Old or his assistant, Theresa. I had to reach out to THEM asking about the email and was just assuming the best and that they had cancelled it in order to send me a new confirmation where I could pay. But oh no. Chef Lin responds with the unbelievable email: "I decided to take the last two weeks of July - the first week of August to go on holiday. I'm the only one who teaches the classes ( Culinary Instructor of 11 years @ The Art Institute) so no one could cover it. That is why I canceled." I attached the email because I still can't believe how unprofessional he was. I am counting on his services, we are ONE MONTH out, he committed to my dates and the service, he cancels and doesn't even do the courtesy of letting me know himself. I am the one who has to reach out to get clarification and when he provides it, he doesn't even offer acknowledgement of / accept responsibility for / act with professional courtesy for the lack of etiquette and professionalism he is exhibiting. I then write him an email saying how disappointing this experience is and that I will write a review to let other people know they simply cannot count on him and his lack of professionalism. He responds with "Not sure what the second email is about demanding an apology & wanting to write a bad review. If this is how things are starting then we may not be a good fit for each other?" I have attached screenshots of these emails as well. I didn't demand an apology. I pointed out he didn't provide one; "That's super disappointing to hear and the lack of apology or proactive explanation for the inconvenience is really poor customer experience." And not a good fit? What a petulant understatement. I live in San Francisco and perhaps the level of service and standard of professional etiquette is higher there than in the Virginia Beach area but I found Chef Lin Old's correspondence, limited customer service, and backing out of his commitment of service (last minute, no less!) abysmal. I am sure that if we had gone through with the service, he himself would have been unbearable. The ego, dismissiveness and lack of ownership that insidiously eeked out through our interactions would have ruined my cousin's party's evening. I'm a silver lining person and so I've convinced myself it's a good thing the reservation didn't go through BUT I do not tolerate behavior like this in the customer service industry. I don't care - small company to Amazon. We are all customers these days and interactions should be led with and based on empathy and compassion. The way Chef Lin Old approached this CS interaction was like a large company that didn't care about the small customer and how it ruined their day / trip / experience: indifferent, careless, un-empathetic. No one wants or deserves to be treated this way. I am so thankful that I was able to find another chef on such short notice but being treated with such unprofessionalism and being stranded last minute without a chef when the entire attendance of the bachelorette (including the bride-to-be, my cousin, who I can't let down!) were counting on and looking forward to a private cooking class, I feel obligated to write this review so no one goes through what I did.
