She and the team of wonderful nurses at Fort Sanders got me through a difficult labor that required over 5 hours of pushing that ended with no instruments used and minimal, non-external tears. I felt Dr. Martin managed my and my baby's care so well the whole time. I also really appreciate that she practices alone and personally delivers every baby in her practice. That's pretty much impossible to find these days. I switched to her at 20 weeks in part because I hadn't actually gotten to see my OB yet by 20 weeks at my last practice, just nurse practitioners. I love that Dr. Martin actually sees and takes care of all her own patients.

I am grateful for the empowering experience I had giving birth with these midwives, and am glad they have found a new home. I just went in for my well woman check and was treated like a dear friend, and a human that mattered. It was nice to see everyone again, and receive care from provider whom takes my concerns seriously. The office is in transition as they adjust. The midwives are working with UT hospital on developing a women's pavilion or wing, complete with a natural birth center. For now, they have birth balls, showers, bars, adjustable beds, and nitrous oxide available to mothers in labor. The hospital will be installing labor tubs sometime soon. As the practice grows they plan to hire lactation consultants and educators. I am excited that UT will be teaching future OB/GYNs how to work with midwives and best support women wishing for natural labor. I look forward to watching the University Midwives flourish!

I moved to the area when I was 35 weeks pregnant and was so nervous about finding a good doctor to…read moredeliver. Someone recommended this group and WOW, am I grateful they did! First of all, they noticed that I barely passed my glucose test and had me take the 3 hour test, which I failed. I'm so thankful to have been closely monitored in the last few weeks of pregnancy. Secondly, the delivery process was a dream. I was able to speak to the midwife on call to decide when I should come in when I started having contractions. They got me back very promptly and honored my birth plan. They explained every step of the process for me and always asked permission before doing anything. When baby girl was stuck, they worked with me for almost three hours, trying different positions to avoid using the vacuum. I cannot recommend this team highly enough!

So I have to write an update because of our last visit. Not too happy with the "updated" staff…read moresince our last visit. Maybe it was because it was a Monday, maybe someone had a headache, heck I'll even go as far as to say that maybe the person was sitting on a tack. The attitude was uncalled for and frankly has made me look elsewhere for the care of my son. I had called to see if there was anything else I could give my son other than what I was giving him, standard OTC meds for a sinus cough etc. The receptionist that answered the phone really didn't want to talk to me. She quickly pushed me off and said that a nurse would call me back, which was expected. However, this was at 9 in the morning and by 3 that evening I still hadn't heard back from a nurse. So, we packed up and drove in to either see if I could speak to a nurse personally or see a doctor real quick. I was quickly informed by the same rude receptionist that, "Honey, we are double booked. You see all these names on here? We still have to see them. We ain't got time for him now." Note, there were only two names on the sign in sheet and it wasn't my problem that they double booked. Granted I didn't have an appointment but I didn't expect to be talked to in that fashion either. She went on to then tell me that I should have called and made an appointment, almost as if I should have known that my son would have been as sick as he was. This was on a Monday. I'm writing this review on the following Sunday and I STILL haven't heard back from the nurse yet. Did they know who I was when I called? Yep! Did they know who I was when I walked in? Nope! Absolutely NO excuse for not returning a phone even if it's to simply say, you'll need to come in.

Dr. Baxter is one of the most caring understanding doctors we have ever met. One of my children has had a lot of health issues and they were wonderful helping me figure everything out and were always there when we needed them. I would never take my children anywhere else! When you are reading these reviews keep in mind that people don't often write reviews when things are good or even great because it takes extra "effort". Effort that people are ALWAYS willing to put in when they are angry.

I'm due December. You do see multiple midwives, I've seen about 6 of them and only 1 more than once. Not a problem for me but I know some women prefer one doctor. They are in the process of opening their own hospital for water birth and other midwife services. Right now they deliver at UT.

My birth plan didn't go as planned, but I got the "A" team by my side! Sarah was there through most of my time at the hospital and I received outstanding care from her. If you are pregnant and looking for amazing care and a natural approach to pregnancy and childbirth. Or even if you are not. I highly recommend this office! Might I add, all the staff is amazing. When I called them I was already frustrated with all the OBGYN offices in Knoxville. when I called this particular office and informed them like all the other offices, I got sorry we are booked out until February Immediately. This office could absolutely careless about you. Humans in Knoxville are just a number. Think about that before you move here.

When I called I was able to get an appointment within a couple of weeks, which was great! The office was clean and the check in process was easy. I saw Dr. Saunders who was wonderful (everyone at this office was very nice). One of the most stressful things about moving is finding all new doctors (at least for me). So, I'm happy to have found a great one right away!
