The Moonrise Hotel is one of those places that doesn't need you to be a guest to make an impression. We wrapped up our informal wander through the fabulous Delmar Loop and drifted up here for a final drink, a skyline check and that signature rotating oversized Moon glowing over the building. By pure luck, it was a full moon over Saint Louis too which felt a little on the nose in the best possible way. The rooftop is solid, a clear arc of the city that makes you slow down to appreciate the view. The space itself is exactly what you want at the end of the night. Open, relaxed and elevated enough to feel like a finale without trying too hard. The music was much louder than I'd prefer and not an artist I'd ever queue up for a mellow nightcap and it did sort of get in the way of the vibe. The kitchen had already closed, which killed the idea of a final nibble with our round of drinks. The bartender did offer the workaround of having DoorDash delivered to the bar but we weren't going to hang around that long. The Old Fashioned he put together was excellent, balanced and smooth. Just what I needed as my Fitbit clocked over 10k steps. As a final stop on a Loop night, the Moonrise works beautifully. You get the view of downtown Saint Louis in the distance, the atmosphere, the giant Moon doing its thing and a comfortable landing spot before calling it a night. When I first started my job way back in 2014, this was the hotel I was put up in to start training in St. Louis. I even got to watch my Royals (that's right STL, my ROYALS) win game 6 of the World Series in resounding fashion up on the rooftop here. Good times. A dozen or so years later, feeling nostalgic, and having struck out on some downtown STL hotels, I opted to come back here. Unlike my Royals, this place has still got it. Friendly staff upon check-in, and they let me know they don't have valet which I was honestly relieved about. When I'm traveling solo, I sort of just want access to my car, not to have to wait 15 minutes to go to the trouble of retrieving a phone charger out of my console. There is a little lot in the back that they'll check if you're a guest before allowing you in during busy periods. The room was nice, and the elevators are quick. The shower pressure is WAY better than I remember, at least it was on the third floor. The bed was insanely comfortable, and really, no complaints. The one issue was the little room couch was filthy in my room, with visible stains and grossness.. I just avoided it during my stay. The rest of the room was clean. No hotel gym that I noticed, but not far from Forest Park if you want to jog or walk (beware the insane STL drivers). I also took my takeout dinner to the rooftop which was nice, but not yet open for the season. I still appreciate them letting me up there for some fresh air and views. Lastly, the Delmar Loop has quite a bit! This area offers good coffee shops, a store, tons of quality restaurants, and all within walking distance. We chose this restaurant in the Moonrise Hotel last night for a work dinner while hosting colleagues visiting fron California and were excited to try it. Unfortunately the experience was extremely disappointing and honestly quite embarrassing. Our group was seated and brought waters and when the server first came by we asked if we could place drink and appetizer orders for the table since we would all be on one check. After that, no one ever returned to our table to talk our order even as the rest of the party arrived. Meanwhile, other tables around us were being served drinks and food while our group of 4 sat there with only water and no opportunity to order. After waiting quite for quite a while our only option was to leave. We ended up walking down the street to Blueberry Hill, obviously we were not looking for bar food for a corporate dinner that we were hosting but we were immediately greeted and served promptly without issue. The fact that this was a business dinner with 2 out-of-town guests makes the situation even more disappointing and unfortunately left a very poor impression of St. Louis. The lack of professionalism and awareness was beyond surprising. read more

This is a fantastic hotel in a perfect location at a great price. I was in town for a quick trip to catch a show at The Pageant which is literally steps away (next door) from this hotel. The Moonrise is also conveniently on the Loop itself, so I was able to do a lot of exploration (shopping, food, drinks) of the city before my show. My room itself was spacious and clean. Extra touches--like a noise machine, blackout curtains, real coffee cups, and a phenomenal shower really sealed the deal. Plus you have a rooftop bar and a restaurant on site. Hotel has a neat aesthetic from the moment you walk in to the moment you get in your room. The theme of the hotel is space/lunar theme (duh it's called Moonrise) and it fits it. The hotel was very clean upon arrival, and the room was as well. Staff have all been friendly and helpful as needed. Free parking in the back of the hotel was a huge plus with the offering of valet if you would like it. In all the time I've lived in St. Louis, I haven't been to the moonrise hotel. For this event, I enjoyed their tasty sliders and their cocktails. The event had a signature beverage and it did not disappoint. It was nice to have the option to sit on the patio or inside and still be served. The bartenders were kind and the servers were nice. The waitstaff kept the dining station clean and filled. I can appreciate when the waitstaff and kitchen and communicating because I was well-informed when my fave app was dwindling down with no plans to return. This place is located on Delmar Blvd on the North side. Free parking in the back. They do have valet if you want it but it is not necessary. The hotel is dog friendly still very nice decor and reasonable prices. It is about 1 mile from Wash U so that is very convenient. There is a minifridge and coffee maker in room. The shower is rainfall (see photo). The people are very friendly and helpful. Another great thing is checkout is 12noon. Those extra couple hours come in handy. Came here for a nightcap and snack and to enjoy the rooftop vibes. Parking was free and located in the back of the hotel (yay) front desk directed us to the 8th floor and it was everything I envisioned. Music, views and pretty drinks. Looking in the QR code They have pics of the drinks and I thought that was a def plus, it helps knowing what you're ordering and the size to debate on pricing choices. I loved it . They have a small but good selection of menu items but it is pricey. I ordered the Moon flower for the drink and pretzels and cheese. I must say food came out piping hot and fresh. My drink was yummy as well but my only complaint is there were Four workers back there but only 2 seemed to be working, the third worker seemed to only be catering to patrons who were sitting there in a group and I'm guessing they were tipping great , she only had tunnel vision for that group and the fourth one was just standing there like a mannequin. New Years Eve 2026, We were looking for a place to stay that was safe and within walking distance to food. I have an expensive car that I will not allow to be valet. They had a special gated parking lot for guests. We originally were going to the book the Loews Hotel downtown, but parking was $ 40 a day, here it was free. The room was a 5 star level room with nice vintage decor. The mattress was a little softer than expected, but still comfortable. The security of getting to the room needed a room key to access the floors. The New Years Eve party on the rooftop was excellent and free for guests. It was worth the 3.5 hour drive from Kansas City. read more

I give 0 out of 5 for Moonrise Hotel in St Louis. I am staying in the 7th floor because I requested a quiet room. Now it's 9:30 pm and the music from 8th floor is too loud the whole 7th floor is shaking. All phones in my room are fake phones that are not connected to any wire. So I called the front desk to complain about. The front desk attendant says I need to talk to the manager in the morning, and there is no attending manager. The noise will continue till midnight the front desk said. I asked the front desk to go up there and ask them to reduce the music noice he hung up on me. I called back and he yelled at me. I need to get up before 5 am tomorrow morning to catch a plane. This hotel sucks!!! Now I know, and I recommend anyone against this hotel strongly. The hotel is old and not very clean, but the price is high. read more

Nice location, poor customer service. Room service cleaned our room the first day, but did not remove the coffee cups, or replenish the coffee service. The following morning, I ask that fresh mugs and coffee packets be sent up to the room. This never happened. Also, the room was not cleaned. Un inquiring at the front desk, we were told that made service had to be requested. It doesn't state this anywhere when you check in or on their website. Also not noted in the room. Pros are the location, ease of parking and good quality rooms. Great views of the area from the rooftop. Unfortunately, I definitely would not recommend the hotel for business travelers. Working from the hotel wasn't possible due to internet bandwidth challenges in the room and in the noisy, open business center. There was work happening on the internet that I only found out about when I asked what was wrong. Important zoom meetings were almost missed had I not rented an hourly office a few miles away. I was not reimbursed for that expense or for the uber rides back and forth. read more

There's a reason Wash U doesn't recommend this hotel. BEWARE they are horrid. I made a reservation 3 months ago for Wash U graduation. I have 2 emails confirming my reservation. When I called the morning of check in to see if we could check in early, the person at the desk said she didn't have our reservation even though I was looking at the email. She then proceeded to hang up on us twice when we pleaded with her to rectify it because we had no where to stay. Then she wouldn't answer the phone. I went into the Moonrise in the afternoon and spoke to the worst person the "supervisor" who yelled at me in the lobby and rolled his eyes when I tried to show him my reservation. He called Andre the manager and none of them would even acknowledge my confirmation email. I couldn't believe the way they were treating me. Then the "supervisor" the rudest man I've ever encountered in my life told me that Andre, the manager said I'm "no longer welcome on the property and they were bringing security down to "escort me out"" He REFUSED to even look at or acknowledge my confirmation email. I can't stress enough how horrible this experience and this hotel is. I have never, ever been treated like that as a customer in my life. They should be shut down. Again, there's a reason Wash U doesn't recommend them even though they're right on campus. And I believe that it's run by a Wash U alum. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. You're toxic people. The Moonrise is a funky boutique hotel located in the Delmar Loop area of University City in the St Louis Metro area, adjacent to Washington University. It has an interesting outer space theme. The hotel is well maintained but is showing its age and could use a bit of updating. I stayed four nights on the 7th floor, and had a view of the area. The 8th floor is a rooftop bar with great views in three directions. I didn't feel the area was unsafe like some others have mentioned, but you are definitely only a few blocks away from some sketchy parts of St. Louis. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable, and the room had a chaise lounge that was a good place to settle and read or watch TV. The room itself had plenty of lights and closet space. The staff were very polite and helpful. I only had a couple of gripes. The first was housekeeping, which, despite my four night stay, never once made up my room. After the first missed day, I asked at the front desk, and they told me the policy is that housekeeping only comes once every three days. To me, that seems a bit chintzy, given how much they charge for a regular room. The problem was, they never even showed up on the third day, so in my four day visit, housekeeping never once cleaned or restocked my room! They brought new glasses and towels after I griped, but it seems to me you shouldn't even have to ask for anything that is a regular hotel service. I wasn't able to hear other guests in adjacent rooms, but you can clearly hear people talking in the hallway, and in the morning, the sounds of people leaving are noticeable. Despite there being a lot of activity on Delmar Ave. (in front of the hotel) I wasn't bothered by any street noise. The attached restaurant with bar is good, although I thought the menu was kind of limited. There are a few bars and specialty restaurants within walking distance, but I ended up leaving the area to eat about 1/2 the time. The best place to find out about restaurants in the area is to go to The Loop's webpage. The rooftop bar is very cool, and an enjoyable place to go in the evenings. Seems to be open until pretty late at night as well if you are interested in a late nightcap. There is free public parking behind the hotel, but it fills up by late afternoon. If you can't find a free spot, the hotel offers valet parking with 24-hour access which was $20 / day when I stayed. Free wifi was very fast when it worked, but there were a couple of instances where it went down during the evenings, which to me is pretty unforgivable. These days, reliable internet should be on par with reliable electricity and water. I should note that it's pet friendly, although the toilet area is a little small (at least for my dog, who usually needs to wander for 10 minutes to find the perfect spot to go). There isn't really a good place to walk a dog in the area, so you might want to set aside time for trips to some nearby parks if you have a bigger dog. If I wanted to stay in the Loop area again, I would certainly consider another stay. read more

We stayed here a few weeks ago, and while I thought the hotel was fantastic, decor, location and all, the parking was impactful. Upon booking on Expedia, it stated that parking was free;however, this isn't completely accurate. The hotel's actual parking is valet parking, and they really push this. The reason why? There are a lot of undesirables in the area that break into cars and most of the free parking is in dark areas, away from the hotel. Fortunately, the guy in charge of parking spotted a nearby free spot, so that was good. We were lucky to not need to park anywhere else since we just stayed for one night and walked everywhere we needed to be. read more

I stayed a night at the Moonrise Hotel and overall had a good experience. The area this place is located is one of the trendier parts of St. Louis, although--I did have trouble finding good coffee within a short walk of the hotel, which seems slightly problematic for a trendier area. Nonetheless, the hotel has a fun futuristic vibe full of LED lighted stairs, a rooftop, and all sorts of cool little trinkets. There were little fruits/snacks upon checking in, which was neat. The bed was comfortable and there was Starbuck coffee pods as well, although the front desk seemed to have some issues providing more when asked (they mentioned they only had decaf handy). All in all though, it was a comfortable stay for a night in St. Louis and I'd recommend it. I did think it was weird that it was more expensive to book direct than through a third party and I would have loved if the front desk would have matched third party pricing so I could book direct! (I walked in and asked how much a room would be and they named a price that was more expensive than what third party sites were showing), so they just said to book on the third party site...and that was a little strange to me! read more

Best valet/bell hop I have ever seen!!! That young man was hustling every time I saw him. The rest of the staff were friendly and accommodating. The reason for no five stars is one of the elevators was out and the driveway to the front door isn't well marked. Overall, a nice four night stay at the Moonrise Hotel. The room was clean and nicely decorated. The rooftop bar had great views and a giant moon. I liked all the moon/space related items on display in the lobby and the lit stairs. It was a nice stay. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly. There were a couple downsides. The parking is behind the hotel and a bit sketchy. I did worry about my rental car at times. You can pay for valet parking, but that is just in a fenced area between the two sketchy parking areas. The valet lot was pretty empty throughout my stay. Maybe just open that lot to hotel guests....not just guests paying for valet. The valet lot mostly empty. The music played upstairs in the indoor portion of the rooftop bar was loud and innapropriate. The rap song that got me to leave repeatedly used the N word, the F word and "Hoes." Is that really what should be played? Imagine an older AA guest( who remembers when the N word wasn't just used in a song to get attention) going up to the rooftop bar for a drink and hearing that garbage. No problem with rap music here, but there is some obvious training of workers needed up there. Those are my two gripes....but the positives outweighed the negatives. Very cute kitschy hotel with moon-themed decor through-out! I stayed here based on booking thru Bring-Fido (I was traveling with 2 dogs). I love that they use NEST toiletries (delicious orange scent). GREAT ROOFTOP!! Such a nice vibe, and the giant rotating moon is also iconic. All dog accommodations are on the 4th floor, so it is possible you will hear other dogs barking. The walls are kinda thin. There was a person screaming in the hallway at 1:45am and it woke up some other dogs on the floor and it was too late for there to be that much noise and barking, but I just turned on the air and that dulled a lot of noise out. If I happen to be back in StLouis, I will come back here! Free and easy parking in a lot behind the hotel. Just keep driving thru the valet area. read more

I reserved a room on Feb 7th for this weekend and they bumped my reservation due their own incompetence of "overbooking". I drove over 11 hours to get there and informed them the morning of that I was on my way there and would arrive around 830. When I arrived I was told that the site I booked from canceled my reservation when in fact the hotel itself canceled (again I told them I was on the way)! No manager contact, just an "oh well fend for yourself" attitude. The front desk lady was helpful in trying to accommodate, but I will not be booking here again read more

This was the worst experience of my life. Upon being tricked into believing this was in a safe area of town, we were in for a rude awakening. This hotel is in an extremely sketchy area, and my family and I were unable to walk down the street to find food without feeling unsafe. Right next to the hotel was a CBD shop with a line out the door, and while trying to walk past it, a huge fight broke out. We turned right around and ate in the hotel. All night we felt unsafe, and were very stressed about simply walking back to our car in the parking lot out back in the morning. Do not come here if you value safety. Hotel Review 2.5/5 Man this is a hard review to write. Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Joe Edwards, the mastermind behind Moonrise Hotel and many of the other businesses keeping the vibe and culture of The Loop alive. I'm a St. Louis native and remember when Moonrise first opened. Moonrise is a very cool, retro-futuristic, space/moon-themed boutique hotel that has always marketed itself as being on the nicer end of the spectrum. This was THE place to go when this place first opened in the early-20-teens. This was one of the few nice rooftop bars in town and the rooftop was always packed and thriving. Because of the unique lobby, the cool rainbow lit staircase, the rotating moon on the roof, and its cool concept for a boutique hotel, this was the hottest place in town at that time. Fast forward to present day, 10-15 years after its opening, as with everything in life, things tend to change.... I stayed here last week, and this was my first time actually staying at the hotel. I'm struggling with writing this review as my mind is juggling between the memories that I have of what this hotel once was, understanding the ideal of what this hotel is trying to be, and now knowing in present day what this hotel has become. While the aesthetics of this hotel are very nice, sadly the execution of this place in terms of cleanliness is severely lacking. (Seriously, give the interior design team a raise because they did a great job designing this hotel!) Upon first arriving to my room, I checked the bedding as I always do when staying at a hotel. I pulled back a tucked flat/top sheet, and noticed A LOT OF STAINS all over the fitted sheet. Like, a lot! Like, throw this thing away and buy a new fitted sheet! Are you guys washing these sheets at all? Or can you just not get the sheets clean? The solution they chose for this was to hide this sheet under a top/flat sheet. I noticed that this bedding ultimately has a fitted sheet, a top sheet tucked to cover the dirty fitted sheet, another top sheet to use as cover, a thin quilt/comforter, and a topper/duvet-esque layer. Seriously people, buy a new fitted sheet! While disgusted with the bedding issue, I thought that this was where my disenchantment with the room would end. I was so wrong. When I first went to bathroom in my room, I could tell that the shower floor wasn't as clean as it could be. It seemed to have permanent discoloration on the floor. I thought, "well that's a shame but it's a nearly 10-year-old hotel so what can ya do?" Then I had my first actual shower... Upon walking up to the shower, I saw that there was a clump of blond hair on the floor in the corner of the shower. GROSS! Then I looked at the opposite corner of the floor and noticed a clump of pink sludge (I seriously don't know what it was, I just knew that it was disgusting!). There were also black flecks near it. I don't know if they were dead small bugs or just motes of debris. I took a hand towel and wiped up all of these things. As I did this, I noticed that some of the dirt was coming off from the floor of the shower. I didn't apply any pressure or soap/cleaner. Bottom line was that the shower had not been cleaned AT ALL!!!! DISGUSTING!!!! It's bizarre considering the rest of the room, seemed cleaned. The floors were clean. There wasn't anything in the mini fridge or trashcan. It was just the shower hadn't been cleaned, and the fitted sheet, of course. This is a problem. Your quick fix for the dirty bedding is one big strike, but an unclean shower is a whole other level of dirty. There are only two main things in a hotel room where you distinctly want to make sure it's clean - the bed because you lay there, and the shower/bath because you wash yourself there. You can ultimately avoid the other surfaces of the room aside from the floor, sink, and toilet. This comes down to being a housekeeping and management issue. As nice as the furniture, decor, theme, service, and colors of this hotel are, if the place isn't clean, then no one will want to stay here. Again, this makes me sad as I love the vision that Mr. Edwards had for this hotel. Without proper management and upkeep with cleaning, this place will never be as great as it could potentially be, or as it once was. Based on this experience, I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend someone else stay here. I really hope that changes are made so that this hotel can get back to the level that it once promoted itself as being 15 years ago when it opened. How truly disappointing. read more

When I stayed it was fine, they tell you it will be a $50 hold which is standard for the room and incidentals. But I called today after I was charged $43 at random on my credit card, AFTER I checked out!???? This makes NO sense. I talked to the manager who has NO clue why I was charged that either! He could not give me a reason at all. And all he would tell me is that the amount would be dropped within 3-5 days. but WHY was I charged some random $43??? and the manager cannot tell me why or even apolgize? he claimed sometimes they auth MORE money?? WITHOUT telling you!??? on the day I checked out? this is SO weird! Also they refused to print me a receipt when I checked out. I was told because I booked thru Priceline. So WHAT? I always book thru priceline and always get a receipt when I check out everywhere else? THIS PLACE IS SHADY! If I don't get the refund, I guess I have to despute these charges with my bank!
