The best way to get the root or meat and cheese of the matter is to get down on this 16-acre pizza farm yourself. To get there, drive through serpentine country back roads and "a steady cloud of dust that leads back to a field filled with pickup trucks." Park behind the main buildings where rows of tomato, mozzarella, and pepperoni plants grow. Save time by sending some of your crew to scout for a prime picnic spot while you queue up in the ordering line. Expect a long wait, but hay, it's worth it! You'll be happy as a pig in the mud sinking your teeth into a tasty, wood-fired, farm-fresh pizza. We ordered the following (ingredients in pics): PESTO: Basically an apprentice Vampire Slayer. Killer pizza, but not strong enough to destroy Jemaine Clement's Vladislav. HALEY'S COMET: Fungus is not for me. THAI CHICKEN: Popularithai contest winner! It could use extra cilantro as that was overpowered by the sweet chili peanut sauce. VAMPIRE SLAYER (previous visit): Unearthly amounts of garlic will give your inner Buffy raging vampire-slayah superpowers! Hi-yah! But there's more on this farm than meets the sty besides pizza! Hang out by the campfire, enjoy live music, or visit with the resident chickens, cows, pigs and goats. You'll be living high on the hog, enjoying it all on a Suncrest pizza night until the cows come home. Best pizza, barn none. I cannot speak enough of how kind and warm the owner was. She went above and beyond for us and even walked us to our car with umbrellas in the pouring rain. As far as beer, our favorites were the strawberry lemon shandy for a nice fruity summer beer and the Citra/Mosaic IPA. Delicious! We come to Lake Pepin every year and we will definitely be back!

When they first started they called the brewery Turning Waters back alley because it was in the garage in the back alley of their Bed and Breakfast. You may think WHAT?!?! Its in a garage...yep its in the garage and its FANTASTIC. This brewery blew me away, and it makes me sad that they are not talked about more in the beer community. Since this awesome brewery is a brewpub you can also find pizza, ice cream, cocktails, wine, and various snacks. The beer is just amazing and the company you meet is even better. I have never had so much fun at a brewery. Brenda and Ford are 100% two of the nicest people we have ever met who also just happen to brew really good beer! I also loved the seltzer- ask for it with a tea bag! I'm serious it's awesome! Please make a visit here!

She helped me build a flight and gave me two samples of beers that piqued my interest... Spruce-A-Lool and Shitty Lyte Beer. Of the five bees I tasted... all were wonderfully delicious. As I exclaimed about the Spruce-A-Lootel "it's not offensive like I assumed and was pleasantly palatable". The Shitty Lyte beer I expected to taste like a regular domestic... had a little..something to it, I can't describe it, but a little punch. Jenna was attentive and funny my whole visit despite the bar filling up w customers. All the customers were equally as funny as we all talked and joked. Don't skip past Pearl Street and your directions are correct when it reads to take a left in to what looks like an apartment parking lot... you go the short distance past that to Pearl Street. I liked that the brewery really covered your palate with light to hoppy to malty and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Siberian Disco Toasted Stout and Java Lava Coffee Stout. I also enjoyed my Old Fashioned, they have a menu of cocktails as well. I definitely won't be waiting another four years for my third stop in to Pearl Street. Thanks Jenna for an afternoon of delicious beer over laughter and brewery styles and beers, cheers!

And while the crowd might trend older, these people have aged gracefully, maintaining a sense of cool. The story behind Crooners is fantastic. A former teacher, the woman owner made money building health facilities. She fell in love with a piano man on a cruise and built Crooners as a testament to her loving spouse. Sadly, her husband passed away before Crooners came to fruition. Her philanthropic work for developing countries and the indigent is well documented. She has a big heart. This was our first time at Crooners, and to test the waters, we drove up the Sunday evening of Memorial Day weekend to enjoy a R & B lounge singer in the free Maggie's Piano Lounge. While the sightlines at Maggie's are ridiculous (it's used as a holding pen for the bigger venues, and the patrons coming and going block your view), we had a great time. Dave, the vigilant and hard-working manager for all of Crooners, also acts as publicist, and was kind enough to show us the other venues. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Marci was our server, and she covers the rooms like a safety on a football field. How she knows when everyone is ready for another drink, to order, or for the check is magical. The food was good, and the menu covers all tastes. We enjoyed Crooners and will return when the performer matches our taste. Knowing what to expect helps. The Minneapolis metro area is fortunate to have a music venue that caters to music lovers outside the mainstream. Go and support Crooners. You'll enjoy yourself.
