We've become regulars at Crooners. It's a fantastic venue that combines the ambiance, good food, and warm service of a Wisconsin supper club with world-class music. I'll still take in the sounds at Dakota Jazz on Nicollet Mall and BERLIN in the North Loop, but when I consider pricing, the kitchen, and the intimate space, Crooners is number 1. I love them all, and Minneapolis is fortunate to have one of the best music scenes in the country. Crooners makes its patrons feel like family. Mary T, the philanthropic owner and an ambassador for Minnesota empathy and 10,000 Lake ethics, is there almost every night, checking that everything is going smoothly. Here for the first time last night. We saw an MJ tribute outside in the Belvedere tent. The weather was absolutely gorgeous which made being outside in the patio tent even better. Food was wonderful. Our waiter was new and overwhelmed a bit but he did well. Music was outstanding. We had such a great time, I will definitely be back. Just a few logistical things that I didn't understand before I went. They have three different musical stages so pay attention to which venue you are booking if you care about being outside or inside. Our show started at 6pm, we arrived at 5:30pm and didn't get our food until after the show started. I'm not sure what time they start seating. You order off a full menu, it's not like a dinner/show package where you only have a few options. Lastly, there was a long line inside to be seated around 5:45pm. The dining room was uncomfortably full and the waitstaff struggled to get between tables. Most of the food was wonderful, and everything came out hot. The Caesar salad was fresh, and prime rib cooked perfectly. The asparagus (seasonal vegetable) were practically raw. I wish they were cooked for a few more minutes. The service was a bit of a miss. I attended a dinner show at the Crooners Supper Club. It was a history of Rondo, it was delightful! The room was spacious with lots of seating. My guest and I were the youngest by a few decades but we were welcomed in with warm arms and had a great time nonetheless. We ordered the lemon chicken and the risotto. There was a large crowd and only 1 or 2 servers so we were patient with the delivery of our meals. When they did arrive they came out and well seasoned. My lemon chicken dish leaned on the saltier and my acidic side so if that's not your vibe I would skip this meal! "Crooners Supper Club" is a very proper description of this place! They serve classic supper club fare like steak and bread baskets, priced for the premium consumer of such things. And there is crooning! That is to say, the main room is an auditorium with a stage and restaurant tables. Each time I've been here has been for the purpose of seeing a musical performance. They'll have big band music, jazz combos, and even the more sophisticated type of rock bands. I get the impression that the ownership are most excited about the music venue side of the business, rather than the restaurant side. The performances on the main stage are not just incidental; you purchase a ticket and are there to pay attention to them. There are additional rooms outside the main auditorium, but they also can have performances. I think that if you want to come to Crooners for food and not music, you can do that in one of the rooms that doesn't have a concert taking place. The food we've had has been average-to-above-average. We had a charcuterie board that was of unremarkable quality, but I've had a New York strip steak that was expensive but met my expectations. My vegan friend usually doesn't spot much on a supper club menu to meet his needs, but he really liked the Greens and Grains salad. We were all satisfied with our drinks. I think this is a really nice place for music. The bookings show really good taste, and they've worked hard to create an atmosphere that feels like a chic, old-fashioned urban nightclub. If you're coming here for dinner and aren't interested in music, I'm not sure you'll get the best impression. But as a music experience, complemented by food and drink of this style, it's plenty satisfying. read more

When ordering a Margaret Old Fashioned I was told by my server that it's not that good and should get something else. Threw off the experience from the start. We enjoy coming here for a show and dinner. The dinners are good. We often get the Duck $28 and only finish half, so we have a lunch or dinner available. It features many local musicians and groups that sing Jazz, R&B or band tributes. They have a piano bar and the Dunsmore (another smaller room) for up close and personal experiences. You go here for the music, so the food isn't the draw. So, the fact that the food is good, but not great, is fine. My wife and I attended the Linda Purl session for a bit of nostalgia her role in Happy Days. She was just ok too, but we had a good time. Cocktails are pretty standard Supper Club options, but well executed. I had The Sinatra and my wife had the Mother's Little Helper, which we both enjoyed. Good strong drinks. For entrees, my wife went with the French Dip, which she said was good. I had the Smoked Duck, which was a bit overcook, but still good. Great night! The entertainment is what makes this place. As for the dinner, it was ok. We ordered stuffed mushrooms as an app. Somewhat of a small portion. Flavor was ok. As I really like prime rib, I was on the fence because of the price. The waitress said it's really good. It wasn't. Basic prime rib with not much flavor. Our server was great. Very nice and very helpful. Food was okay. Show was okay. But before the show started the owner of Crooner's took the stage to welcome people. It would have been perfect to stop there. She then made a comment about immigrants and that all our welcomed. While I understand she was trying to to make a point it was not very sensitive to people who lost loved ones as a result of immigrants who were not deported after committing crimes and then ending up killing someone. Out of respect for the owner I did not ask her in front of all there whether she thinks the guy who killed the college student in Illinois last week would be welcomed. Or the guy who cut the innocent women's throat on public transportation last year. Would he be welcomed? My problem with statements Iike the one she made - either from the right or the left - is the this topic is much more nuanced. It is also very disrespectful to the families who have lost loves ones. I found it in very poor taste just like I would have if someone said up front that ALL immigrants should be deported. Very disappointing. read more

We loved the atmosphere of this old time supper club. It definitely takes you back! We were in the Main Stage venue and the performance was excellent- this group had energy! Our dinners were great! After reading lots of great things about Crooners, last night my husband and I paid ~$200 for six VIP tickets in the "Belvedere Room" at Crooners. We were very excited about meeting friends for great food and entertainment. Unfortunately, I did not realize that the VIP tickets I had purchased were for seats in an outside, totally unheated, tented venue. Apparently, Crooners emailed my personal email address last night disclosing that the venue was a patio tent and to "dress for the weather". I didn't see or expect to receive an email from Crooners b/c I bought the tickets through the Eventbrite app (their suggested method). The app, where I purchased the tickets, is where I would have expected to see messaging about the event. Even so, there should have been better communication. Such as "this is an outdoor tent and there will be no heat provided" It was 42 degrees when we arrived at 6:50PM tonight. 42 degrees!!! Staff was dismissive and said the tent would be warmed by "body heat". Another server said that they tried to set up space heaters earlier but they kept blowing the electrical circuits. It was uncomfortably cold. We left without eating, drinking or seeing any entertainment. Crooners -Be better. Advertise honestly. You should refund the ticket charges. read more

The beet salad was well dressed and probably the highlight of the meal. My wife had the walleye which was large in portion but overwhelmed with a poorly done lemon caper sauce. Really nice establishment! Tables were well spaced for social distancing, and well positioned for still seeing the stage. The sound quality was good as was the performance that ran nearly 2hrs. Throughout this time the staff remained attentive checking if anything was needed, and were very polite. Getting out of the parking lot was a bit confusing, but luckily I was able to follow someone. The music is always amazing. However, the tables are too close together, no drink service once the music starts, no way to get up and use a restroom without distracting the entire room. And the food was not so great. When I asked about the $25 fish n chips the waitress just described them as frozen from Sysco. I recommend getting there right before the show, order drinks and a desert and skip the Sysco food at 100% mark up. read more

Crooners is a lovely place. I went to listen to Maud Hixson on a Saturday night in the lounge. Maud is amazing and has a beautiful voice. Drinks were fine. I had ordered the crispy which came ala mode, there were a mix of fruit and crunchy toppings but nothing to write home about. The lounge is intimate but not ideal for listening, even though rules for listening does state to keep talking to a minimum, it was too loud as expected since the lounge sits at the entrance. read more

Food, music and entertainment was good. You're packed in like sardines. Tables are maybe a 1/2 inch apart. Chairs are sodden and uncomfortable. Waitress came around one time. In the 3+ hours we had one cocktail. I would have ordered more. She didn't even ask us if we needed anything else after the food came. 100% not her fault, she had way too many tables to really provide quality service. Wish they could space things out better for it to be an experience. Between dinner and the show we spent over $200. I expected more. The digital clock really sticks out. Food prices are of "supper club" standard, but the selection is generic. Service was mostly cordial, but not always. Too often we had to seek it out. Perhaps the supper club vibe is evident within the performance venues, but it isn't in the "lounge," which is in full view of the front foyer, the bar and the industrial doors to the kitchen. It might be considered a bright note that there was no flat screen TV in the lounge area. Perhaps the performances are the reason to go to this place, but it doesn't live up to the supper club billing. read more

Davina and the Vagabonds were definitely the reason we were here, so my review could possibly be biased. If it was a group we were impartial to, I know it would have been less skewed. That being said let's begin. Last night a friend and I went to Crooners for the 1st time. He(Ron) bought tickets a week in advance for Davina and the Vagabonds. We have seen them perform before, and absolutely enjoy their music and vibe. We recommend them to anyone and everyone when possible. The show was scheduled for 7-9pm. We arrived about 6:50pm. We entered the establishment, and there was a hostess waiting. We gave our name and she promptly seated us, the show hadn't started yet, thankfully as we were close in front. The owner came to the stage to introduce the band and make an announcement reminder to silence phones and put them away, there was even a mini sign on each table stating 'no talking during performances'. The tables were very close together. Even though the 1st table next to the stage was a separate party, our tables were so close you could lay the drink menu down and it could be used as a bridge for our 'technically not touching tables'. Another example of how close the tables were in certain areas of the location; the waitress had to wait on the table over us. So any food, drinks, or anything else that came for them was passed in front, over, and/or around us, which made it weird. What made it awkward was, the couple sitting there was on their 2nd date, and the conversations were uncomfortable. The atmosphere was amazing. The people were dressed in all types of attire. Jeans, polos, dresses, slacks, skirts, and blouses. The picture of seating online makes it seem like the outside tables are far way from the stage, but it was close quarters. I would have liked sitting at a raised booth or table, instead of right up front, but more than 2 tables deep directly in front of the stage wouldn't have been pleasant as those tables aren't raised and I'm short. Our order was smooth and uncomplicated. We had a "check-in" yelp coupon for '1 free glass of wine, with 1 entrée order'. We ordered the Walleye Sandwich with Tater Tots(entrée) and Walleye Cakes for an appetizer. Ron ordered a beer and a glass of wine, and a soda for myself. Our food came our pretty fast, and everything looked delicious and made to order. Ron also received a free additional beer, per the waitress forgot to 'stab' the tickets once the drink order was filled. Our food warm, and delicious, no complaints. Our table mates on the other hand ordered 2 glasses of wine before ordering. They ordered after we were seated, which is why I was able to witness their 'complicated' order. They ordered 2 entrees, a burger with tots, and a sandwich with steak fries. Both without tomatoes and onions. The waitress told them she doesn't believe they would be able to include 'specific' instructions on their orders because of how complex they were, and how busy the kitchen would be during the show. (The show hadn't started yet). When their food was brought out, their orders both had tots, and the waitress mentioned that the kitchen was unable to fulfill their specific requests. The male patron didn't want to say anything, but the female did inform the server of the mistake. The server was understanding, and eventually brought them steak fries/regular fries. Overall the experience was amazing, because anything with Davina and the Vagabonds will be awesome sauce! The service was okay, mistakes were made, but more importantly, they were corrected. I didn't like when the waitress blamed the kitchen staff for the errors, when she could have potentially avoided this. Would I come here again, definitely for Davina, but would I for another group? I think it depends on the group and the company I'm with. read more

We were seated in Maggie's Lounge for dinner, arrived at 4:30 and got a nice table for 2. We ordered the fish and chips appetizer and a Rueben sandwich. We were offered the bread plate and accepted. We both had 2 nice cocktails, good and top shelf. The Rueben was rubber and I mean that quite literally. I couldn't chew the meat. The fish and chips were walleye, and the portion generous, but unfortunately very fishy tasting. Would not recommend either. So there's that. Should have gone with something we knew. The service was adequate but not excellent. The server never once smiled. The staff is too busy with the Dunsmore room and the Main Stage so we didn't get the service we are used to. So here's the biggest issue, 1 sandwich, 1 appetizer and 4 drinks total (top shelf) and the bill was $158. The bread we were offered was $8, didn't know that, the blue cheese olives our server offered..."would you like regular olives or blue cheese" additional $2 per and the server didn't memtion it. Drinks $21 each! I asked if i could sub a salad for the fries was told sure, found out when I got the bill it was an additional $6.50... not completely of line but higher than is typical and again I wasn't advised. Server asked if I wanted the salad with or without anchovies, I said with please ... up charge $4, again not advised. We told the server about the food when she finally came with the check and she said she'd tell the chef, no apology no offer to make it right. I asked to talk to a manager about the up charges and to let him know about the food issues and he was....RUDE...JUST RUDE. I asked about the price difference of $8 on the fish and chips from the menu to the bill...he said I was wrong. I asked about all the up charges and he said "its on the menu" it wasn't or it was in some very fine print. He finally did offer to take the Rueben off but his whole demeanor said, "you're the problem" terrible way to handle it. I told him we'd already paid and nevermind, walked away and said we would probably never return. He caught up to me and gave me two drinks tickets and said "their worth more than the Rueben" and offered no apology. If you go ...ask about UP CHARGES for EVERTHING they OFFER you. So, if your into an uncomfortable chair in a little lounge with traffic from their two other venues passing your table in a tight space and want to drop $158 plus a tip, (and we tipped 20% as we didn't feel it was entirely the servers fault) for 2 people 1 appetizer, 1 sandwich and 2 drinks each...it's perfect! I went here with a girlfriend for our Christmas celebration and to see the WONDERFUL Jennifer Grimm performance. And it was just that, she has the most powerful voice out there and she carried herself with such grace and poise. She's just so fun and real. Crooner's has remodeled and I must say there seating is VERY comfortable and with the way they have the seating arranged there really is not a bad seat in the house, I bought the VIP seats, I don't know where normal priced seating and VIP starts, we were 1 section back from the stage but there was only 1 more section behind us, anyway the food was wonderful I had the best Shrimp scampi I have ever had, you would not believe the amount of enormous shrimp......no skimping there and all the lemon and cream flavors were spot on! Want to go back to see another performance just to have this again. My girlfriend ordered the Lentil soup and a beet salad and she was in love with hers also, but I must say I thought mine looked better. The drinks were delicious too a little speedy at $13.00 but everything is more expensive now. The Belvedere tent description is not entirely accurate. To be accurate it should include: tickets to a show in the Belvedere tent does not guarantee a table under the tent. While the sound may be great in the tent and sight lines unobstructed, you may be seated outside of the tent. Some tables are outside of the tent with obstructed sight lines. At a table outside the tent you may be seated in the hot sun without shade. Whatever the weather is outside, you may experience it without protection from the tent. You may also not have timely service for a cold beverage. Go for the music, which is always terrific. But, know a ticket to a show in the tent means the band will be in the tent and some people will be seated there. read more
