I…read morehad asked for a referal, waited for necessary medical tests to be approved then scheduled then the resukts to come back, then the referal to rwh to be approved, then the appt scheduled. So i answered, "because the u.s. healthcare system is dysfunctional?" She sent me for further tests, and about the time they were returned, she was heading on vacation for two weeks amd wanted me to wait before she did a biopsy. I demurred and asked for a collegue to do the biopsy. Thank god i did. The biopsy came back positive. I went to see her upon her return. She explained the next steps and said, "i am your doctor; you can call here any time you have questions; i will be in constant contact with you." It sounded so nice, but it was a big fat LIE. I called a few days later when the bleeding reappeared to ask if that was normal or if i should seek an appt or what. That was over a month ago. I have never heard from that office again. I have since received tx and am already cancer free because i perservered through this American healthcare "system." Don't bother with shereshevsky. She's got her own problems, and doesn't have time for you.

Like many other women, I had had past experiences with OBGYNs that leave you, frankly, feeling like cattle. Just in and out and sometimes not even a "bye" before leaving the room. That same day, I looked further and made an appointment to meet with Naomi, not really knowing much about midwifery. When I met with her, and we discussed unmedicated birth and home birth and what she and her staff offer, I just knew that this was right for me. I had not really ever wondered about a birthing experience for me but this felt so right. I still remember anxiously thinking, "oh, please have room to take me" as she calculated my due date and reviewed the births she already had scheduled for the month of May. To my joy, Naomi had room for me and so our journey began together until several weeks after my son was born safely at home. During our appointments, Naomi took all the time we needed to ask questions, hear our baby, and connect. I never felt rushed, judged, and truly felt cared for by Naomi and her staff. I feel so blessed to be able to look back at my birthing experience and feel so much love for this beautiful tribe of women (Naomi, her staff, Mariah and Krista, and my doula) all working together, calmly and soothingly coaching me, to assist me in brining my baby into this world free or chaos and to validate all my overwhelming postpartum tears and meet them with such love and compassion. However, I NEEDED the support I got -- from hour-long prenatal visits that truly encompass the whole family's values to the birth itself, these women were a godsend to our family. I unfortunately had a complicated birth, and ended up going to the hospital. Having the midwives there with us made the experience SO MUCH less scary. I can't even begin to explain how priceless their presence in the hospital was -- at 3am nonetheless! The lactation support was also key, and got us set up to have a very healthy breastfeeding routine. However, the most important thing that I didn't know I'd need was the postpartum support. You guys, having a baby is WILD. You think about the pregnancy and the birth, but nobody really prepares you for what comes next.
