I've been in their ER twice in the past couple of years, once with pneumonia, and once with severe,…read morecrippling migraine pain. Both times they essentially saved me -- from dying of pneumonia, and were VERY kind and concerned for me. The migraine they helped me with very swiftly, understanding I was in terrible pain. So... take the negative reviews with a large grain of salt. Usually the folks who're helped with a smile don't bother to review a place. Well, they saved my life. I'm eternally grateful to a great team of medical personnel.

When my father was dying, a nurse assigned to him was extremely rude and dismissive. It still sticks with me years later. She was a blonde, middle-aged nurse, though I don't remember her name. We asked if a relative could come see my dad, and she snapped back, "I told you no, do you not understand?" Her tone was unnecessarily harsh and completely lacking in compassion for a family actively watching someone die. She also told us we could no longer stay overnight with our unconscious, dying father, which felt cold and insensitive given the circumstances. This wasn't an isolated experience--just one example of the kind of treatment we encountered. I hope she is no longer working as a nurse, because no one should be treated that way during such a vulnerable time. I also wish I had filed an official complaint, but I was too traumatized at the time to do so. In total, we were in and out of multiple hospitals for 6 months. The majority of nurses we were encountered were kind, which is why her attitude stuck out so much. Some people really shouldn't be in a line of work where emphathy is so important. Because of the care we experienced here, we ultimately realized we needed to move after my father's death to ensure better access to more compassionate and reliable care for ourselves in the future.

The hospital staff knew what medications my family member was prescribed by their doctor and was taking before being transferred to their ICU, but they were not giving my family member their prescribed medication as they are required to do. My family member was cut off of their medications instead of tapering off which could cause stroke which they should have known working in the medical field. Putting any patient in a dangerous situation is not acceptable. My family member did survive septic shock after being in the ICU at St.Joseph Hospital which I am very thankful for. The bill they received just for the ambulance ride from the hospital in Fortuna to St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka and their care for not quite 24 hours in Fortuna and part of their care at St.Joseph Hospital was a million dollars. They had not received the bill from the doctor yet as they bill seperately. Other than one nurse who was very rude and them not giving my family member their prescribed medication because they didn't think they needed to take it, they saved my family member's life. They need to work on not going by their own opinion when taking care of their patients though because that is dangerous and could potentially be fatal for the patient.

Still I keep being notified around " $2000.00 " is owed , the last time while trying to check in for my next doctor appointment , If after each call you are told it has been corrected ( ignore the bill ) , one begins to wonder how many other mistakes are being made because of management procedure's ? This problem truly reflects on the whole organization ! Makes one think Providence is just to big to care ?
