One of the greatest pick-your-own fruit farms in all of Texas. These blueberries are probably the best I've ever had for a farm! It's become an annual tradition for us to drive early in the morning, start when they open bright and early, proceed to our breakfast at Rudy's BBQ and head home for a long-deserved nap. The staff are awesome, they are very knowledgeable of the whole land, this place goes on for acres and acres! They take really good care of their land, and some seasons are awesome with abundant rainfall and others not... because of heat. This is a great blueberry farm! Love the fact they don't charge an entry fee and have an amazing per pound price for blueberries. Even though it was crowded on opening day this year, didn't want to miss a chance to stock the freezer with blueberries since last year's season was short and we missed it. My wife and I have been to PYO blueberry farms in New England and other PYO farms across the country in the many states we have lived, and we have never seen a disappointment as Moorhead's. At other PYO blueberry farms the bushes are only 4-5 feet tall, packed with blueberries because they have been well pruned to grow that way, and 3-4 feet between straight rows that are well kept and allow customers to walk and for the sun to reach the entire plant. It seems that Moorhead's originally planted the blueberry bushes in rows and then left for a decade and let nature take its course. The bushes have grown into brambles requiring you to get scratched by branches as you squeezed along neglected rows to reach interior bushes, while trying not to trip on unseen roots and branches because you couldn't see the ground due to the undergrowth. Some of the weeds are as tall as the 8 foot blueberry bushes. My wife likened it to trekking in the Amazon without a machete, not knowing what will attack you from below or up above. Clearly the owners neither know how to prune nor the advantages of pruning blueberry bushes. They clearly have not visited their competition in Grangerland. They also don't know the poor experience they are giving their customers, or how easily they will end up in a lawsuit if something happens to their customers or their customers' children. The blueberries are packed with flavor. The owner doesn't use chemicals and the blueberry flavor reflects that. Go early in the season and you can easily pick 20 lbs in a couple of hours. They freeze well, giving you delicious blueberries for months. The staff give you everything you need to pick. They're easy to talk to and point you to the best places on the farm to find the biggest blueberries. I've been coming to Moorhead's for 20 years and they've never disappointed. We waited till the second day they were open this year so it took a little longer to fill our buckets but it was so worth the work. We foraged about 9 pounds between the wife and I. Over 20 pounds in our group. They are $3 a pound and so much better then anything you will buy at a grocery store. There is always a gal there selling preserves and marinades that she makes with real fruit. She is often sold out of the blueberry by time we get to her but her other stuff is great so I'm sure the blueberry is as well. Bring your bug spray and sun screen. read more

I've picked up more heads for several years always gotten great blueberries at a great price. Staff is so friendly owners, wonderful and greets everyone that comes. I highly recommend it for singles couples and families! Do you be aware though that you drive through what's like a gravel pit and if it's been raining it's pretty messy. Great blueberry u-pick with very reasonable pricing ($2.50) a pound. Cash only. Once you turn off the main road they have several signs directing you where to go. Just follow the "blueberry u pick" signs and you will easily find it. At one point you actually driving through a ?dirt or gravel mine. Just keep going. Two of us picked over 6 pounds of blueberries is about 30 minutes. There were tons of ripe blueberries! Even though there are a lot of people there you really can find your own area away from other people. The size of the blueberry bushes and the amount they have really impressed me! There are a lot of families there. I really liked that they didn't charge to use a bucket. The bucket comes with a rope that you can hang around your neck or shoulder so both of your hands are free for picking. There is a snow cone shop on the property that was well received after getting sweaty from all the picking. Three sizes - small, medium, and large (2,3 & 4 dollars I believe). My first time picking blueberries! I saw Moorhead's Blueberry Farm on Facebook and decided I needed to go cause I absolutely love blueberries! This place was about an hour or so from Houston, in Conroe. You do have to follow the GPS or signs cause it's pass some concrete factory - but it's well marked and the gravel road was pretty smooth (since they laid gravel and leveled it after the rainstorm). I brought a disposable rain coat and some rain boots but it definitely got so so hot in the middle of the afternoon, even with the passing morning showers. The rain boots were a good idea cause patches were still really wet and muddy but once your out by the blueberry bushes, it was clean and well maintained - not muddy at all! Listen to where they tell you to go for the best berries cause they open certain areas on any given day and it's definitely the best location for the best picking! We were told up front by the fence and found it was the best berries after trying deeper into the fields - they were the largest and juiciest berries! They give you a bucket and you can pick to your heart's desire. You can even eat them off the vine - no pesticides used here! Eat as much as you like and bring the rest home! It's $3/lb and they weigh it in front of you! They even provide bags for bagging them home! Overall, it was a good experience. The staff/owners are friendly. And we got some of the juiciest/ sweetest and most riped berries ever! We ended up with 2 buckets full - a little over 12lbs! I can definitely say I froze two large freezer bags of them and ate the rest fresh! Might be a blueberry cobbler or two in the foreseeable future! Yum! I would come again! Great local blueberry farm and perfect for some family time fun! I went the first weekend it was open. I missed the turn into Bennette Estates and got a little lost, but it's easy enough to find if you don't miss the turn. The road can get a little rocky. I parked on the grass and it got busy when I left around 10am. They provide the bucket with a rope so you can wear the bucket around your neck while you pick. Free tastings and you pay with cash or check only and it's $3/lb. It was fun exploring and picking the blueberries. I recommend wearing sunscreen, sneakers and a hat. Bring a portable fan if it's a hot day. They weigh and put the blueberries in a plastic bag. I recommend bringing your own container to transfer it in. I did a bit of sightseeing around Conroe and the blueberries got too moist from the heat and didn't last very long. There were two restrooms by the entrance, picnic tables, benches with fans and a snow cone stand by the parking area, too. Moorhead's Farm is one of a few locally owned and operated fruit farms, in the greater Houston area that lets you pick your own fruits. In this case, this farm specializes in blueberries. The season typically starts around end of May or early June (check their website for updates). Harvest season only lasts a couple of months. When in season, the farm is open 7 days a week starting at 7am-9pm. It's located about an hour away from downtown Houston. I suggest going there really early or really late during the day. It does get hot and humid very quickly. I saw families bringing their kids and making a day of it. You're welcome to bring coolers, have a picnic. They do sell bottled waters in case you get thristy and forgot to bring your own. We got there around 8:30am on a Saturday and the place was already busy! Upon entering, a staff will hand you a bucket (you can ask for more buckets if needed) and informs you which section of the farm has the most ripe blueberries. After that, you're pretty much left to wonder on your own. There's no entrance fee. You pay the blueberries by the pound ($1.50/lb). We only picked about 5 lbs of blueberries, which I thought was plenty, but there were people there buying tens of pounds! A couple things to note about their blueberries: (1) they are really sweet! I really regret not picking more, especially since my family raided my stash. They liked THAT much! (2) they don't use pesticide on the blueberries or bushes. I set my alarm for 6:30am, and stumbled out the door. No, I wasn't leaving the club. I was leaving Houston to go on a magical adventure in search for delicious blueberries. With the visions of homemade blueberry pancakes or perhaps Greek yogurt, blueberries and honey dancing in my head, I headed out to Conroe. The directions from the website were pretty helpful, and I parked along a gravel road where a crowd of cars were already there. A friendly staff member greeted me with my choice of bucket (small or large), and I happily made my way down the path the staff recommended I use. Luckily enough, I arrived around 7:30am and there was a bit of cloud cover and some shade in the very, very back. And, I was glad that I brought my water bottle. With determination to fill my small plastic bucket, I went to work. From various heights, you can find the dark blue beauties. As I started working my way through various areas on the farm, I heard various languages being spoken and little children running around picking the low-hanging fruits.(I began to secretly covet the adults with children as they commanded them to work faster and faster. Why didn't I bring a small child?) But alas with some patience and tenacity, I filled my bucket and I felt a sense of accomplishment all before 9am. :) I proudly brought my bucket back to check out. They are delicious, way better than store bought and they are easy to pick! My 16month old son even had fun picking and eating! The staff is always friendly and helpful. Went here on a hot summer Saturday morning and had tons of fun sampling, picking, and sweating. The blueberries are pesticide free so you can just wipe the berries down and sample them before picking to make sure they are ripe. I certainly ate more than my fair share. The berries were sweet. And the cost per pound is so cheap - I will never buy blueberries from the grocery store again. I also enjoyed meeting other pickers, especially the hardcore ones with gallon buckets filled to the brim. You'll overhear some awesome comments from kids too. You can get a free basic recipe sheet by the weighing station, or buy lots for 25 cents. I ate the blueberries fresh and then made jam. Yum yum yum. It was the first time my sister and I have gone blueberry picking, and we were happy with the experience. We arrived at about 7:30 am. The roads are full of rocks, sand and under construction areas. Follow the road tracks to the destination. The signs for the farm are small. If you are coming from I-45 south, you won't see the "Bennette Estates" signage until you pass it as it is facing the other direction. There was a good amount of people already in the fields and unloading their wagons from their cars. We parked in the space along the entrance to the main parking lot. There was a good mix of people of all ages. A lot of the kids seemed to have fun picking from the bushes. Upon entering, you'll see the area to pick up the buckets, get instructions (if you need them) and the area to weigh and buy your haul. They'll direct you to areas that are available for picking (designated by flag colors). It's about 3-5 minutes to get to the bushes. The bushes are lined up in rows. It is quite hot in the early morning still, so I recommend a hat, long sleeves (to push through bushes if you want to) and wearing clothes and bags that won't snag on thin branches. We wore sneakers, and they worked for the most part. In the early morning, the dew on the grass can make the sneakers quite damp for a few minutes. They dried out easily enough as it was quite hot. Bring water. We wore short sleeves and were able to pick our ways through some areas that are slightly blocked by branches, but it would have been a little easier if we had long sleeves on for protection. The plants are rather pliable, so it's easy to bend the branches to get the fruit on high branches if you can reach the base of the branch. Watch out for some of the bushes that have been cut down to about a foot high when crossing bushes. There aren't any thorns, but there are the occasional main branches that are growing smaller branches that prick a little. There weren't many insects in the fields, but we did see spiderwebs on some bushes and a few flying insects were traveling in the more open areas. You can taste a berry or so as you go from the bushes to see if you want to pick off of the particular bush. The berries were a good size. There's 2 restrooms in the front area and one near the flags that direct you to the fields. It's currently $3/ pound. read more

Very nice family run place. We spontaneously decided to visit to get out and stop the iPad watching for the kids. In 30 mins we got 9 pounds of Tiffblue and Powderblue blueberries in the green zone. I have grown blueberries as a hobby for a few years but never seen such large blueberry bushes in my life...I never knew they could get so big?! A close 30 mins from the Woodlands. Wonderful family time. Went in evening not crowded, so it's easy to social distance. Everything is organic. The road at the end is dirt and you go thr a sand factory so its a little adventure. Current price is $3.50/lb so for our 8.97 pounds it was a touch over $31. I think each white bucket they give you is about 4.5 pounds if you fill it full. read more

I love coming to this place. The blue berry is amazing. The people are very helpful and nice. Come early 7-9am. It's so hot after 930ish. The last mile to the place is dirt road so it gets pretty dirty on the way but the actual blueberry place is pretty easy to get around. My wife and I pack sandals and change after we pick so the inside of our car doesn't get dirty. We got 17lbs after 1.5 hrs. And we were talking and just relaxing the entire time. What a great Saturday morning date! We got up early (though meant to make it earlier, woops!) and headed north. Tip number one, take Hardy toll road! We made it there super fast! There are signs once you get to all the back farm roads but they could be a bit better and they don't really specify where parking is. Since they open at 7 am, cars were parked wayyyyy down the road and we ended up walking for a while, no big deal. But there were spaces further up and we just had no idea how far we were to begin with. Once we got there, we saw a huge line of people paying for their bucket loads of blueberries, wow! I was impressed and eager to start. Thankfully it's really easy, there's someone there just handing out buckets. That was cool, because when I went strawberry picking you had to pay for the bucket. Then off we went, there are rows and rows of blueberry bushes, we didn't even have to go very far back so I"m not even sure how large the place is. Even getting there 2 hours after they opened, we couldn't manage to pick fast enough! There were so many blueberries! I think we managed to go right during peak blueberry season and probably the best weekend before they get picked clean. We could have kept going based on how full some other families buckets were but we were both satisfied with half buckets full. The check out process was really fast, there was no line for us. This place is only $2.00 a lb, which was awesome to see compared to other farms I'd found online that were all over $3.00. We each got very close 2.5 lbs for under $5 each. Coming here as turned me into a blueberry fanatic! Today was my 4th year coming out. Once end of May approaches I get super excited because that's when the harvest season begins!!! The season ends around July. Things to note: -$2.50 per pound -They are typically open Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, unless they are flooded -It can be easy to miss 'Calhoun Road' if you are coming from US-59 or 99. Lookout for the "bennette estates" sign. There are several signs along the way to direct you from there. -You should wear sunscreen -Bring lots of water, a hat, towel (to wipe your sweat), and a pair of sunglasses -Bring mosquito spray if the grounds are wet -I would suggest wearing closed-toe shoes (my preference) -Today, these blueberries were the JUICIEST berries ever for the second day of opening!! -The key is to find a bush with clusters of berries and remain there till you have picked enough before moving on. And eat less or if possible none, lol. -Best time to pick is early in the morning from 7 am. -If you come early, you might find a crowd and end up parking farther away from the gate -In the evenings, 6 pm till sunset is also good time -The fastest picking time I have done is 1 hour (solo) with the bigger bucket. Today, it took close to 2 hours (solo). -The bigger bucket can hold like 10 lbs. Today I had 12.88 lbs. -Toilets are available -Very popular with families -They accept ONLY checks and cash. As a fan of local food, inexpensive food, and blueberries this place is incredible. Unlike many of the "pick-ur-own" facilities, this one actually sells the produce at a price that makes it worth the trek and the labor to pick. The blueberries are quite good and the people are nice. Be sure to get there early and check the website before heading out, it is quite common for them to get picked out on a saturday, making a Sunday excursion a frustrating waste of time. It seems to be a very popular family excursion, my favorite comment heard from among the rows: "NO! You may NOT hit your brother with a stick!" :). This place is pretty awesome. The only thing that would make it better is making it closer to where I live, but I suppose an hour drive isn't awful. The price has gone up, but at $2/lb you still can't complain. Even on sale at the grocery store I can only find buy one, get one free 6oz containers for $4. Anyhow, this place is a lot of fun to go to and definitely worth it. I will recommend bringing lots of water/drinks and going early. I thought going at 10am wouldn't be too bad, but in July in Houston it is pretty hot! I thought I was going to melt and I'm used to the heat. There is some shade in the blueberry bushes, but it doesn't offer much help. The picking is pretty labor intensive since all the blueberries aren't clumped together. I spent a couple of hours there and only came out with 6lbs. I would have taken more were it not for the heat. There was also someone selling watermelons at the farm and another farm on the same road that said it sold organic vegetables. I didn't stop in to check it out though. This is my first season here picking blueberries and it is so much fun. So much so, that every weekend I have been back, I have brought along new friends and therefore new customers. Everyone there is friendly. I would suggest going in the late afternoon. It is not crowded then. They say taste, taste, taste and that is what I do. :) A full bucket weighs about 5 lbs. Located deep in the middle of nowhere. You will travel through dirt and gravel roads so make sure your car can handle it (check weather conditions). Also recommend that you arrive early. Seems like cat's out of the bag and most of the good ripe pickings are to be had in the morning. But even in the afternoon, there's still many trees with some unpicked ripe berries. You pay for however much you pick that's weighed at the end. This farm is large with endless rows and columns of blueberry trees. And there's a snowcones stand at the front if you need to cool down. This was my first time fruit picking and I would definitely do it again! A unique way to spend the morning. TIPS = 1. Follow the marked signs to the parking lot. The road is unpaved. You will probably park on the grass. Most likely there will be other cars traveling to the same place. This place is popular. 2. Pick up a bucket from the front. They provide two bucket options - a large ~10 lb bucket and ~ lbs. And people do fill up the 10 lb buckets. 3. Bring cash! The pricing is cheaper than what you would pay at the grocery store. I paid about $3.00 for a days picking, which would have probably costed $6 at the store. 4. There is one toilet for the entire picking area. It was not as nasty as I thought it would be, but there is a line. 5. Most important tip of all: COME EARLY. This place is popular and the ripe blueberries get picked quickly. We came at 10am and while we were able to pick blueberries, it took much longer than it would have if we came early. We struggled to find ripe blueberries. The ripe blueberries that are left behind are mostly the blueberries that are too high up for most people to pick. It helps to be tall. 6. Again, come early! It's spring/summer in TX. It gets hot. 7. Don't be afraid to pick off the ground. Some ripe blueberries fall out of people's hands and they are too lazy to bend down and pick them up (aka me). 8. Remember this is a family environment. I come here every year with my family, it's fun and the staff is extremely friendly. The blueberries are delicious and especially plump after rain. Second time here and a lot of fun. My wife, dog, and I enjoyed the farm very much. We got there at 7 am sharp and 90 min later had a few pounds of blueberries picked. At $3 a pound, it was a pretty good deal and the dog enjoyed all that fell to the ground. read more

I absolutely love this place! The staff is friendly, the crop is plentiful and they are sweet. This has become an annual family tradition for us to come out and pick blueberries. Make sure you go at the start of the season and not wait until the end like I made the mistake of doing this past year. You pick, weigh and pay by the pound. I've been picking here for almost 20 years -- since I was a kid. I cannot reccommend enough! Family owned, organic, cheap, and friendly! Get there early to avoid the heat and the crowds. The year's crop depends on the weather, but they make sure to update their webpage honestly. I picked for two hours this year and got 25 lbs. 16lbs for the freezer, and the rest for family and friends. The picking process/experience is also a great time to catch up with family or friends! Old vines, very tall. Hard to find the good berries and we went opening day. Super nice people and great value just more work than expected.
