I always want to get involved and volunteer but my schedule is usually full. This time I decided to do something for a good cause and clear my schedule to volunteer. What an awesome facility for such a great group of people. Mrs. Shriver's vision in 1962 that started as a camp back in Maryland still is just as impactful today; even more so as it was from the bginning, I'm sure. The Special Olympics complex has many modern features to include an exercise room with modern equipment such as elliptical, treadmill as well as bikes. An expansive gymnasium which a variety of events can be played and a library with an array of books as resources for children with delayed developmental milestones. Outside a beautiful patio area and a gazebo compliment the grounds offering peace and a place to go for quiet and fresh air. I had the opportunity to volunteer for the Health Young Athletes Ask A Doc (AAD) program sponsored by the Robert S. Wood Foundation. Not knowing exactly what to expect in my role as a therpaist providing advise to families as well as assisting at the events afforded me to be excited and flexible. The AAD program provided onsite health care professionals to speak to families who had questions about their children with intellectual, social, behavioral and/or physical disbailities. There were physicians, nurses, dentists, speech, occupational and physical therapists as well as dieticians offering their expertise as needed. Moreover, the disciplines were able to interact at the outdoors events with hand help puppets representing various health care providers. But the best part of my 2 day experience was watching the children from ages 2-8 enjoy various obstacles courses under these wonderful big tents that were created, ride bikes, bowl, kick soccer balls, rolls balls,compete in racing activities and other sporting activities. Anyone without a smile on their face, tears of joy and happiness in their eyes and a heart melting watching these kids do things we take for granted, all the while having fun with each other without judgement, prejudice, anger or any negativity, maybe miss the emotional gene of compassion for humanity. When given the opportunity again, I will volunteer but not for only 2 days, but for at least a week or more. Volunteering felt good, it felt right and shows, we make time for what is important to us................

The most memorable moment was a surprise at the end where Jay had all the guests stand around the bride and groom and join in singing "Can't help falling in love" while he played ukulele. They were able to learn our first dance song and perform it live rather than us dancing to same old track (really gave it a new and personal for us). MatchDog Rescue has given me and my bf our first love, Hewitt…read more Before attending the event in Atco, we were given a phone call with a proper run down on how the event would work so we were not confused when we got there. They are extremely communicative, and the events are usually held on Saturdays, but the transport that was bringing the dogs in had troubles and the event ultimately had to be moved to Sunday. I had my phone call at about 11:15 and about 1 PM hours later I was informed about the date change. It is not a typical adoption shelter that I have been to in the past. At the event, there is a ticket system, as in, the earlier you get there the earlier you will be called. While you wait you mingle with the volunteers and the dogs. You get a vibe on which dog feels like the best fit for you. However, be mindful that the crew with MatchDog Rescue does their due diligence and wants the best for EVERY SINGLE DOG. We went to the event with a very specific dog in mind. One that was on the medium/large end. However, the staff that reviewed our application and lifestyle, let us know that the dog might not be the best fit for us in terms of training and size of our home. While it was disappointing to hear, we knew at heart we wanted what was best for the dog and us. As mentioned before there is a mingling period while waiting to be called on by staff. During this period you can meet dogs of all ages, sizes, and all types OUTSIDE of dog cages. We had met several different dogs during this period, just to name a few that I can remember, Nevada, Hewitt, Cassidy, Dukie, and Garret. We bonded with several dogs early on, but with our hearts set on a specific dog, we just enjoyed their presence. However, after being informed that the dog we had our hearts set on was not a good fit for us, we knew which of the many dogs we met during the mingling period we wanted to go on a walk with. We asked if Hewitt was a good fit for us, confirmed he was, took him on a little stroll around the lot, and knew that our hearts were set on him. We went through the process of adopting him and each volunteer we worked with, remembered Hewitt and always told us how he was such a great dog and a cute little snippet or fun fact about Hewitt. There was never a doubt in my mind that Hewitt was not loved under their care. On our way out with Hewitt, the last volunteer that we worked with walked us to our car, ensuring that Hewitt was buckled in and safe and had their very loving and sad goodbyes with each other. Hewitt has been with us for about a week. We are a very calm, but active couple and Hewitt matches exactly that for us. When we are relaxing, he is relaxing. When we are running, Hewitt is right there running with us. It is not something that I considered when I was looking into adopting a dog, but I am extremely grateful the staff at MDR let us know before adopting a dog. If ever in the future I am looking for a second dog, there is no doubt in my mind that MDR will be the first adoption agency I look into.

It was really important to my husband and I to have a packed dance floor where everyone was up…read moredancing and having a good time. We had been to a few weddings that DJ Menson and DJ Cory Minto were the DJ's at. At each of those weddings everyone was up dancing, the music was on point, and it was just an amazing night. We knew when we booked them we were in good hands and that they would deliver exactly what we wanted and envisioned. The music sheet that we filled out prior was followed and manipulated in a way that made the music for the night flow perfectly. The dance floor was packed the entire night and the music was so much fun to dance to. We had guests coming up to us during the wedding and the days following the wedding raving about the music and how much fun they had. DJ Menson and DJ Cory Minto were big factors in helping our wedding turn into the party we envisioned. Our wedding wouldn't have been the same without them. RIP to the dance floor we killed.
